Stern
I have had the problem (and so, apparently, have others) that people can't shutdown their computer when running macosx86. Oddly, my computer restarts in seconds, but halts during shutdown. What could be the cause of this, and how can it be fixed? sHARD>>
I notice mine is sporadic. Without "platform=X86PC", it didn't seem to do anything, with it, it is sporadic. Sometimes it restarts, sometimes it hangs, but generally launched always throws an error or two no matter what. It seems to have gotten better as time went on (odd eh?), but generally a find it needs LOTs of time to shut off. After "System Halt" or whatever OS X says (I can never remember), it takes around 30-60 seconds for my machine to actually power down. The best of all however is sleep mode, which just sort of leaves it hanging with the monitor on (it seems to just spin down the drives, whatever). Stern
Does anybody know how to fix this problem, obviously it is common. If you even have an idea and want someone to try it, I will. Please, somebody figure out what is going on and how to solve it. macgirl
If you search in the forum you may found that is a known issue for many. ACPI lets shutdown, X86PC lets restart. Stern
Is there a way that one can get both working, or are there any files that could be looked at for a way to do this? Maybe there are some files in the /Libraries/Preferences folder that could be tweaked. I'm not a hacking god, but i'll try to find something. Mr. Bond
I think someone reported that worked....but I never seem to have that problem, so someone else will have to verify it. If it works, I'll add it to the Technical Q&A. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/1269-shutdown-issues/#findComment-9848 Share on other sites
enb14
The problem is due to a PS2 Keyboard, I have the shut down problem when I plug my PS2 Keyboard, with my USB keyboard it works flawlessly but the problem is due to a PS2 Keyboard. macgirl
Yes, some Chipsets lets shutdown and restart with ACPI. Like VMWare. The VIA MoBo I tested lets do both. tkc
i can do shutdown and restart w/o specifying anything. with x86pc, i can't shutdown but can restart. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/1269-shutdown-issues/#findComment-10204 Share on other sites
Stern
If you don't specify anything, it defaults to ACPI. Seemingly, you can do both with ACPI, but shutting down doesn't work with X86PC...
