webb789
hi everyone after having lots of problems with kalyway constantly crashing at random times on my hardware i installed ideneb 1.1 yesterday and so far it has not crashed once and has been a really stable machine. The problem i do have is that i am using the 9.4 modbin kernel and i cannot boot into leopard unless i use the cpus=1 flag at the darwin promt, does anyone know if there is a way to enable both cores without a kernel panic? My Spec[/b] Asus p5n-e sli 2.13GHZ 6420 CORE 2 DUO (OVERCLOCKED TO 2gb 667mhz ddr2 ram 1 x 8500GT 512mb 1 x 74gb WD raptor SATA (install drive) 1 x 500gb WD RE2 SATA 1 x 300gb WD SATA Drive other than this issue i am very impressed with this build, i burnt several dvds using toast, ran emule overnight in windows xp running in vmware and downloading via unison client, all without a single crash as of yet and pretty quick as well. Hi there, I have had no problems with iDeneb 10.5.4 v1.1 on my Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus MOBO but I used the 9.2.0 Sleep kernel.......I had problems with the 9.4 Modbin kernel whereas i have never had problems with the 9.2.0 Sleep Kernel........see my blog...... webb789
thanks for the quick response there, ive taken a look at your blog can you confirm are you using the jas install now or still the ideneb? which one would you say is more compatible as i have a similar board to yours... also is there somewhere i can download the 9.2 kernel rather than re-installing and can i just use osx86tools to change it? I am using both.......in the JaS install I am using XNUStage kernel and 9.2.0 Sleep kernel in iDeneb.......i Deneb v1.1 gave me the most simple install........ You could try just double clicking on the iDeneb .iso file to mount it......go to System/Packages/Patches/Kernel and drag and drop the Kernel-9.2.0-Sleep.pkg on the Desktop......and run it..... webb789
ill give that a go when i get home, would like to use both cores, not much point in owning a core 2 otherwise i did try jas but i had problem applying nforce drivers to the disk, i heard good things about his old releases, although if i can get ideneb working with both cores that will do me, actually trying to use it as my main os, just using vmware to run emule as nothing in mac os compares. im so use to all the problems i had with kalway, i got kernel panics and freezing all the time have you any idea if the 10.5.5 update is safe? I personally rely on the Mysticus C* Updaters.......he is about to post his 10.5.5 Updater shortly......strange the problems you have had with Kalyway.......it was and remains my main install (updated to 10.5.4 via Mysticus C*'s updaters......see my blog guide.....it may be worth you giving it another go.....)....... webb789
I have used the mysticus C updates on kalyway and got it to 10.5.4 but my computer is generally left on all the time, as it is constantly downloading etc and everytime i got home from work and tried to log back in it would freeze or kernel panic, quite often it would do it in the middle of web browsing etc. Also that Da*n pin wheel, i found sometimes it would start spinning and then not stop with one app, and if i clicked on anything else everything i clicked would freeze like some sort of infection... what benefits would you say kalyway has over ideneb? How are you networking.......are you using a PCI NIC or what? nForce chipset MOBOS cannot properly run onboard LAN under OS X.......also as you see from my signature I have a 10GB partion volume at start of HDD set up as a OS X Boot volume running Kalyway 10.5.2 and set in apple.com.Boot.plist to "cpus=1 maxmem=2048".......if I want to do any heavy file transfers (e.g. via Firewire) or downloads I boot into this volume....so no problems..... Re Kalyway versus iDeneb no major advantages but getting Kalyway to run on your MOBO would confirm that you have no hardware issues..... webb789
im using a belkin usb wireless adaptor, it works fine with ideneb and did work with kalyway, i know that nforce lan has some stability issues under heavy load. I see what u mean about your 10gb partition as it makes sense to have a stable install when moving large files around which i do allot of, haven't had issues doing this with ideneb yet. I did try and find out what was causing problems with kalyway but i couldn't find much usable info in the console, although that side is a little new to me. I have used windows as my main os for a long time, but i own a macbook and have always liked the mac os. I would just like to run mac os stable, or as stable as i can without a true vanilla install. A320
The problem i do have is that i am using the 9.4 modbin kernel and i cannot boot into leopard unless i use the cpus=1 flag at the darwin promt, does anyone know if there is a way to enable both cores without a kernel panic? Does this help? From another poster.................. "Although this topic is done for Asus p5n32e-sli mobo, if you scroll down the topic, you will find the kernels on the bottom part... the issue is caused by new scheduler introduced by apple in 10.4.9 update in 8.9.1 kernel and all later ones up to current leo kernels... now u can use your all cores.... no more cpus=1 http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=69353 check it out... cheers... 168
Guys which kernal should I use? I've installed using the original mac kernel for intel sse3 cpus and that has been fine. Should I try out the other ones? what's the difference? Which one of these three are best for: ASUSK p5K-e and E6400 C2D Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/126323-ideneb-11-1054/#findComment-894416 Share on other sites
webb789
just an update... i have tried the 9.2.0 sleep kernel and got a kernel panic and also the Stage XNU kernel which gave me a kernel panic as in above post. the only kernel i have tried so far that works is the modbin 9.4.0 kernel which is really stable, with no panics yet, it did occur to me that it may be because it is only using 1 core but i tried this with the 9.2.0 kernel.
