pigeon20
i am dualbooting windows and osx with 2 separate HD in my comp. i installed 10.4.5 and it booted perfectly. but when it loaded for the first time, it asked for me to update. i did, and then it asked for me to restart my computer. when my computer was booting up it froze at "display: family specific matching fails" and now i cant boot into OSX anymore. i dont think it was the update but maybe it was. help would be appreciated. Thanks! i have a: Pentium 4 2.4Ghz SSE2, 512mb ram, ati radeon 9600 128mb AGP. p.s. i tried booting with "-v", "-f" and "-x" with no luck. Derek
Hey, sorry to say it, but you can't update the way it asks you. Visit Maxxuss's website and you will find instructions how to dl and install the security update and a patch that will make it work. very simply--even I could do it. I had the same problem as you and I got it via maxxuss's instructions. Good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12610-display-family-specific-matching-fails-error-help/#findComment-80318 Share on other sites
pabster
Yes, it was the update. For future reference, never install an update before checking to see what the ramifications will / might be The patch overwrites loginwindow and re-protects OSX. The fix is to overwrite that again with a patched copy before rebooting -- check Maxxuss' sites for instructions and tips. wiredmeyer
I am getting this exact error after a clean, native install with the Mylar 10.4.4/5 ISO. Is it a permissions issue, I do not understand what to do next.
