this is my lspci info for the card

 lspci -nn gave me this

lspci -v gave me this

4:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5005G 802.11abg NIC (rev 01)
 Subsystem: Belkin Unknown device 701d
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 19
 Memory at a0010000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable)
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2

any help would be greatly appreciated!!

You just bought this device so look at the package and documentation and confirm if it supports 802.11a (5ghz band)
