Coreimage Capability?

I know that core image capabilities are generally only found on the G5's. Is there a possibility of getting it to work on an amd or intel chip? And what exactly does the core image stuff have to do with macos, and the mac gui?

They work in all the SSE3 supporting processors in the x86 architecture!

 

Coreimage is one of the majors renderers in the GUI

Stern, Core Image is also available on some G4s (depends on the video card, of course...)

Like HPB said, is there a sse3->sse2 coreimage patch? And if not, would it be possible for one to be made?

It will only work if you have an SSE3-enabled CPU and onboard GMA900 video at this point. I'm pretty sure the Maxxus patch or whatever patches things to SSE2, but it won't make CI work.
