MegaMoo
Hello all, Background, currently have Vista installed, prepared 20Gb space on a second drive, used the Kalyway 10.5.2 for installation (chose customization of: AMD test patch 1 and the legacy patch, also chose the NVInject 512 graphics driver), and left the default selection of kernel (sleepkernel) Everything installed fine, and after setting up a boot option for OS X using Vista (using chain0 method), OS X all started up and worked, **much rejoicing**, the only issue was onboard network using the forcedeth-nockd.kext seemed to be quite unstable (just stopped after a while for no reason), so instead of playing with that too much, thought it easier to use my other netgear GA311 card which required no extra drivers and is far far more stable. Now, to the topic of this post: I was hoping to apply the 10.5.3 patch, so obtained the kalyway 10.5.3 comboupdate and read instructions (install update, do not reboot, install kernels, reboot: update -v etc) So I ran the update, but just before it completes, it quits out to console and continually outputs the same 4-6 lines repeatedly for a few mins then reboots.. And of course, because I never had chance to install the new kernels, it does not boot, just hangs with "Unkown SIGSEGV code 0" error messages (which are indicative of not having the AMD or legacy patches?), but I can boot with the "-s" to get it into single user mode. So finally, the question is where can I go from here? Can I use the single user mode and "installer" utility or "pkgutil" to install the required kernel package and/or patches? Or do I have to perform the entire 10.5.2 install again, and approach this patch from a different angle? NOTE: I am new to the OSx86 scene, but willing to learn whatever it takes to get it working (I like a challenge), so have been reading the wiki and browsing the forums (I am familiar with linux so the unix based console is nice and familiar). If anything I ask is documented already then just shout as must have missed it.. Anyway, thanks for any help or suggestions!!! - Mega Moo Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/122221-kalyway-1052-to-1053-upgrade-process-auto-reboot-issue/ Share on other sites
meatwad
I had this same problem and booting into single user mode and installing the package didn't seem to make any difference. I had to do a fresh install from the dvd (4 hours of my life lost). I've finally got everything back up and running and want to do all the upgrades but really don't feel like going through a whole reinstall again.
