gcraiga
Hi Everyone, I've got a OSX86 Kalyway 10.5.2 installation that's been rock solid for many months. It's installed on it's own drive with a GUID partition scheme and with data and one system HFS+ partition. My windows installation (which I never use any more) is on a completely separate drive. In preparation for the upgrade to 10.5.3 and 10.5.4 I ran a time machine backup and used the tool Carbon Copy Cloner to create an image of my startup partition. Unfortunately I hosed the install going to 10.5.4 and I'd like to now restore. My first recovery attempt was to use an external SATA to USB device and my Macbook Pro to restore the partition using Carbon Copy Cloner. This tool works great for real macs (which I have the most experience with) but apparently not with OSX86 installations. Unfortunately I just get a blinking cursor after the computer Posts. Now that I've recovered the data to the partition, is there a way to set my GUID partition to bootable and get the darwin bootloader back up and running? They Kalyway DVD doesn't seem to only allow installation of the bootloader without installing the whole OS -- it also shows it as an "upgrade" rather than a clean install. If I can't use the Carbon Copy Cloner image, I also have a time machine backup. In either case, can someone point me in the right direction for reinstalling PC-EFI for a Kalyway GUID install or let me know the way to restore this partition? Thanks. Gujal
All you need is to install the bootloader after restoring the carbon copy image you need Chameleon bootloader dmg file from chamelon.osx86.hu put the dmg file on a USB Stick/drive boot with Kalyway DVD mount the dmg file run the following command, use the full package name installer -pkg Cham.....pkg -target /Volumes/yourdisk reboot Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/119667-restore-guid-partition-from-carbon-copy-cloner-or-time-machine/#findComment-847938 Share on other sites
gcraiga
Thanks for the tip. I ended up finding this post which walked me through reinstalling PC_EFI via a USB Key. Worked like a charm: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...l=guid&st=0 Is there any advantage to using Chameleon over PC_EFI? If I wanted to switch does the Chameleon installer automatically remote PC_EFI? In the meantime I'm now up and running using 10.5.4 (Vanilla Kernel) with my NVIDIA 7300gs working through the latest version of NVInstaller. I couldn't get the machine to shut down but I used the latest Kexts and Power Off fix available on this page: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=76404 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/119667-restore-guid-partition-from-carbon-copy-cloner-or-time-machine/#findComment-848666 Share on other sites
Gujal
Chameleon is better than PC-EFI if you are running newer CPUs such as the Intel 45nm Core2 or AMD Phenom. And yes when you install it, Chameleon replaces PC-EFI Shutdown and Reset problems have no definitive fix yet. There are various work arounds and so on but they are for specific kernel versions.
