Cisneiros
Hi. I installed iATKOS v1.0i, and I would like to update to Leopard 10.5.4. I read that "whitebox" versions (like iATKOS) can be Software Updated, but as this is a major update, I prefer to ask here first. Can I use Software Update to update to 10.5.4? If not, is there any other way? Thanks, Alexandre Cisneiros. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118887-can-i-use-software-update/ Share on other sites

Cisneiros
I'm on 10.5.1... according to iATKOS FAQ at http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=76821: Well, it is one of the first FULLY patched Leopard v10.5.1 releases. It is also known to have a preinstalled complied efi which means that you can install legit Apple Updates without downloading any patches or 3rd party software and also you can stop worrying about reboots hanging on the "Loading Darwin" screen. It is known as a "White Box" install [...] Also all files etc are all vanilla. So this basically means I can update? MacNutty
No. Updating Leopard from Software Update may make your hackintosh unbootable. Try the guide provided in this forum to update to 10.5.4. Cisneiros
I have to update one by one (10.5.2 then 10.5.3 then 10.5.4)? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118887-can-i-use-software-update/#findComment-842350 Share on other sites
Gujal
You can go directly to 10.5.4 using Apple 10.5.4 combo update following netkas method Of course it is for systems that are currently running properly on Vanilla kernel and kexts Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118887-can-i-use-software-update/#findComment-843997 Share on other sites

Gujal
If you are following Netkas method, you are supposed to backup your current running kexts such AppleSMBIOS.kext, AppleHDA.kext and any other kext you modified. These are located in /System/Library/Extensions and you are supposed to copy them to another folder (say /Backup) before starting to apply the patch and once the update has completed, copy the extenxions back from /Backup folder fix persiossions and then reboot Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118887-can-i-use-software-update/#findComment-845169 Share on other sites
Cisneiros
Hm... I expressed myself wrong... I understood I should copy my kext's. The problem is that I don't know which ones to copy, because I didn't have to change nothing from iATKOS 1 default install... Thanks :] Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118887-can-i-use-software-update/#findComment-845292 Share on other sites
Gujal
The most common ones to backup are 1. AppleSMBIOS.kext 2. AppleHDA.kext 3. AppleACPIPlatform.kext Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118887-can-i-use-software-update/#findComment-845298 Share on other sites
