Hiya everyone

I was wondering what you all thought of this:

I bout a shuttle KPC from a company called Micro direct here in the UK, when i opened the box the small black plastic cover that protects the pins of the processor socket was loose inside the case had it seems to have bent a small section of pins out of pace, rendering the pc useless!!

So i phone the company and they told me that damaged pins are not covered in there warranty!!

So im kind of stuck, i don't see any way to repair it, and the company don't seem to want to take it back, i am going get back on the phone tomorrow!

Any thoughts?

I need some advice regarding this

i have been on the phone to this company and they are refusing to take the unit back as they say it has to be my fault.

I am at a total loss and im so angry about this.

The returns manager wont even talk to me on the phone as he "has nothing to say to me"

I am going to write to them, but i feel this wont do anything.

any suggestions as what i should do??

Thnaks

It sucks that the company won't take the unit back. Hagar is right, it's their fault if it shipped without the socket protector in place. They even have a sticker on them saying not to ship it that way. Sounds like a real {censored} outfit- but not sure what you can do about it other than spread the word to others not to order from them. Try writing to tech publications over there about what happened- I see sometimes where people write to a magazine like Maximum PC, the magazine contacts the outfit with a simple "what's up?" and just the hint of widescale negative press makes refunds and exchanges and other miracles happen. Longshot maybe, but worth a shot?

If you're stuck with the board, you could try bending the pins back in place-hopefully they aren't grossly bent. A .5 mechanical pencil barrel used to work perfectly for processor pins- not sure if it's still the right size for socket 775 pins or not, but you might give it a go. (Over the years, I've had to straighten many a bent CPU pin and had them work perfectly thereafter).

If you try it, just try and straighten them very carefully, just enough to make a good contact with the CPU.
