Voxicles
Greetings Gentlemen (And Ladies?) I apologize in advance for this post, as I'm sure the answers I'm looking for are spread throughout this forum, and the web, but I've been digging for nearly 4 days now, and haven't come up with a working solution, so here we go: I'm trying to triple boot xp, ubu 8.04 and OSX 10.4.8, and it's been quite frustrating so far. I started with a fresh format, used gparted to divvy up my hdd as such: 50gb primary ntfs (for xp), 50gb primary EXT2 (for ubu), 1gb (linuxswap), and 50gb FAT32 (For OSX). Fresh install of XP on ntfs, no problems. Next, fresh install of Ubu on EXT2, no problems(well, there were a couple problems, but those were idiot related :-P) Dual booting those two works flawlessly. So of course with everything going so smoothly so far, OSx has to give me troubles. Now I must admit, I've never installed any OSx on any system before, so my knowledge of work-arounds is slim to none. So when I pop in my OSx dvd, and reboot, I get the whole press a key to install thing, darwin starts loading, then half way through I get the "Still waiting for root device" junk. Now I know there are a lot of posts on different solutions, but I can't seem to understand any of them. I suppose what I'm hoping for here is a simple solution, or at least a bit of help with a more complicated solution, or maybe someone might stumble across this that has some similar system specs? Here's my system specs: CPU Info: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ Display Adapters: ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC. M2A-VM HDMI Memory: 2 gigs Hard Disk: WD 160gb Sata Optical: LG DVD Multi Recorder (Optical drive is IDE, was left over from my last comp, nex mobo only had one ide port, otherwise I would try this whole thing with an ide hdd) I think that covers the important stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/117388-triple-booting-complications/ Share on other sites
Joseph Ferano
I had this exact same problem as you. But my hardware config differs so I dont know how much my solution can help you. What happened with me is that I had my motherboard set the Sata 0 and Sata 1 ports to Raid and my Raid array was set as the primary boot device. So when i would load the Kalyway, it gave me that error. All I did was switch the IDE {censored} HD I was going to use to boot Mac to the primary boot device, and it ended up working without a hitch. I noticed you didnt mention anything about Raid so just check your BIOS just in case. Hope I helped. Poco
Try looking on the hardware compatibility list. If not try another version of OS X mabye leo. iAktos v4i works quite well. iPoco Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/117388-triple-booting-complications/#findComment-831853 Share on other sites
Voxicles
Thanks for the responses! Hmm, my Mobo isn't on the HCL, but through surfing google, I found that someone was able to get tit to work, but of course there was no way for me to ask them how they did it. I'm only running Sata 1, and I have no IDE hard drive, otherwise that'd fix my problem I think. I've tried three different distro's of OSX, all without success. Also, my BIOS options are EXTREMELY lacking, there is nothing about raid under any menu. I only have 1 hdd, and it's plugged into sata1, and my dvd drive is plugged into my only IDE port. Startin' to think that maybe all this is futile :-/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/117388-triple-booting-complications/#findComment-832089 Share on other sites
Rikad Rahman
I had that waiting for root device problem. It was solved just by changing the ide data cable. I m using 2 ide (pata) hd and 1 asus dvd rom and 1 liteon combo drive. You can try by changing the data cable. Use 80 pin new cable.
