have you tried booting with "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32" (assuming this is the desired resolution..)? Just look in the forums, there's lots of information on this...

yes, i tried booting with "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32", it's wont work with pci-e card...

have you patched ATIRadeon9700.kext?

nope... i didn't understand how to patch ATIRadeon9700.kext. I have download Koverg patch and in readme file was told this -> Replace 5B60 with your device id, but 5B60 it's ID of my card... So maybe i not understand something and if you know how to use this patch, please give me a full guide. Thanx!

Paraphrased and copied from Koverg's instructions:

1. Extract Koverg's tar file and copy the extracted folder to root of your HD.

2. take note:

HI is the high byte in hex of your device id and LO is the low byte, e.g.: ./patch9700.sh 5e 4b if your device id is 0x5e4b
you can find your device ID by checking the System Profiler for OSX. Once you have your device ID, in a terminal type:

cd /koverg-patch9700-v0.2
sudo ./patch9700.sh HI LO

3. in the terminal, edit /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeon9700.kext/Contents/Info.plist by using:

sudo nano -w /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeon9700.kext/Contents/Info.plist

in the text editor that comes up, go to <key>IOPCIMatch</key> and in the <string> below, change 5B60 to the same device ID you found in the system profiler (For example, my device ID for a Mobility Radeon X300 is 5460, so 5B60 is then changed to 5460). After the ID is changed, press Ctrl O to save and Ctrl X to exit the text editor.

4. still in the terminal, remove the kextcache by entering

sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

followed by

kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

5. you can now enter your desired resolution in the com.apple.Boot.plist, however I suggest testing your desired resolution after you reboot in step 7 by using

"Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32"

or whatever resolution you're going for. Do note that widescreen resolutions are not supported.

6. Repair disk permissions in Disk Utility.

7. Reboot.

I hope that simplifies or at least better explains what you need to do. You'll probably have some mouse artifacts, but search the board for a program called Mouse Expose which will take care of them. Good luck.

Thanks again Koverg!

Koverg's patch is just supposed to let the ATiRadeon9700.kext use card's ID's that weren't originally in it. (AKA it lets more unsupported GPUs use the Kext, giving the end-user QE/CI and OpenGL, but NOT more resolutions)

Yea, also enabling QE2DX (Quartz 2D Extreme) will remove most mouse artifacts, since by using the Koverg patch, the end-user will also be able to use Quartz 2D Extreme.

yeah, I guess I got a little off topic there. He did mention that he didn't fully understand what he needed to do with Koverg's patch...so I thought I'd try and simplify it.

Well, he doesn't need the patch anyway. This is weird. I can do 1280 on my X300SE, whie Krot can't on his X300 with the same ID. We talked it over a lot over ICQ, he seems to be doing everithing right, but it just doesn't work!

How exactly do you enable Quartz 2D Extreme on 10.4.5? The only thing I've found about it said to edit /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist I don't have com.apple.windowserver.plist in that folder. I don't know what's worse, the tearing or the flicker from mousepose.

if you don't mind me asking...why are you trying to change your resolution when your screen maxes at 1024x768 anyway?

Oh, sorry) I did wrong understand a question about resolution, the max resolution of my LCD is 1280x1024 and max resolution that i got on it is only a 1024x768.

i'm having the same problem, if i set the graphics mode manually to 1280x1024x32 it outputs at like 79hz or whatever while my LCD only supports 60. Im on a 9600XT AIW so it only picks it up as a vesa 2.. QE and CI are enabled though.

funny thing was it would change with 10.4.3 fine, but anything later and it outputs at 79hz..

Krot:

Maybe you patched the ATIRadeon9700.kext wrong

Get a new copy from your install DVD with pacifist

Overwrite the kext and follow instructions again

Do you think that koverg's patch will help me? I thought that this patch is for QE & CI support... I don't understad what's going on?! some guys has a 1280x1024 on a similar cards without any problems, but i cant. Is there any differences between X300SE and X300 (i has a last one. ID 5b60)?
