Hi!

I currently testing to get 5.1 sound with my ALC850 AC97 chip to work (775Dual-915GV)!

In Audio-Midi-Config it shows 5.1 und i can configure the channels, but when I try to play music or watch DVD there's no 5.1! When I reopen the Audio-Midi-Config it shows up "Stereo" in the speaker configuration!! It seems that the Audio-Midi doesn't change the channel config!

Can anyone help me with this problem? :D

play a DVD movie with VLC, you'll get 5.1 sound.

It just won't work with any other player.

And what about iTunes or DVD Player or Quicktime? :(

I just want to hear musik with 5.1...

You simply won't.

Anyway, Music in 5.1 doesn't exist, it just emulates the same Stereo sound on all the speakers, that's all.

Even in Windows, you won't get any 5.1.

About Quicktime, there is no such thing as playing 5.1 sound yet (AC3) using the Universal Binary of it.

About DVD Player, you need a SPDIF 5.1 setup (which it seems you don't have) to have 5.1 support.

The only soft that gives you "analog" 5.1 support like in Windows with PowerDVD (or whatever you are using) for DVD and Windows Media Player (for AC3 DiVX files) is VLC.

If you really wanna have some stereo sound on all of your speakers using Itunes, etc, you might probably have a button to push so it emulates this (I have one with my speaker setup). If you don't, then use VLC anyway, it emulates 5.1 with MP3 as well.
