Does this setup look good? I already have the graphics card and RAM, so I can't change those. The rest shouldn't be a problem, though, correct? Can anyone recommend any different parts that might be better?

I want to set up hackintosh with the least "hacking" (patches, etc) possible. Thanks guys!

Looks good but that case is damn expensive. I got a full atx with a 500 watt powersupply for 80 dollars at newegg. I would then use the extra money saved to buy some faster ram, look for the gskill 1066 i think they have 2gb for 55 dollars at newegg. Also you can get this for $129.00 Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 Wolfdale 2.53GHz at newegg. An over all better processor for almost the same price, faster to. You should check these things

After thinking about it, I don't plan on upgrading this PC for a while (I don't mind having outdated hardware, just as long as it can run OS X to its max potential)

So I think quad core would be a good investment. What do you guys think? The HCL says it is fully compatible :)

Also, I switched the DVD burner to

How's that?

your wasting your money on that video card.....its 128bit for god sakes....they cards up to 768bit now and 2gb vram...an extra 70 bucks you can get a card 2 times better in every way. I personally wouldn't get below 256 bit. Most games now a days you cant even play them on medium settings with a 128bit. Just need to see which ones are compatible for osx86...that part i dont know anything about, but i do know your wasting money on that video card.

Memory interface like that only will effect things like AA and AF. But the 8800GS only has 192-bit memory, but it beats the hd3850 which features 256-bit memory. It depends on the speed of the memory, type of memory(gddr3 for example), the IQ of the core, the number of shaders, and the cores clocked frequency. For $80, a 8600 is fine. There is no card you can get that's a full 256-bit memory for $80(NOT including rebates) Now say it was in the $100 price tag, then that's money wasted right there. But, it's a mid-ranged card. It's not made to play games at the highest quality.

Luckily I don't care about games. I have an xbox 360 for that. Thanks for the post, though. Don't mean to come off as a jerk.

I actually already own the video card and the RAM. I made this thread mostly for the CPU, case, DVD drive, hard drive, and motherboard.

i said an EXTRA 70 bucks, and i personally owned about a year some months ago a 8800GS OC from evga and its crapped out not even 4 months after i bought it, the right side dvi gave out and then wouldn;t render right, would crash the game, and then it eventually just stopped rending at all, it wouldn't even render a poser 7 model with NO animation. i strongly do not recommend the 8800gs. My card at work as a quadro fx5500, great, i love it, i think about stealing i all the time, but i need my job. lol

Just for the record, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the 8600GT card- it's a good card for Hackintosh, especially if you're not playing games. Most entry-level Hacks are going to have cards with 128bit GDDR2 or GDDR3 memory, and it's all most non-gamers need.

I use the EVGA 8600GT every day for Final Cut, Photoshop, Parallels, Motion, DVD Studio Pro, and it handles them all perfectly.

Even a lowly $30 7300GT can handle most non-gaming tasks just fine.

Since everyone seems to be experts on hackintosh VC's, can someone tell me how a low-mid grade quadro card works on hackintosh? is it even supported, im building a system and its going to be used for modeling and animation rendering, any suggestions? it needs to be able to tie me over till i am able to get my mac pro.

Yeah, my mate has a hackintosh with a Q6600 and just a Geforce 6600 128mb card, it's so fast, I don't think I've ever seen OS X run as smoothly as on that rig.

I say go for the Quad Core Q6600 processor if you want it, it's a fantastic CPU, and your graphics are fine as they are. The E7200 is a good choice too, as was mentioned earlier.

What's the model?
