Exclusive: ZDNet overclocking tool enhances performance of Mac Pro

Whereas there are a lot of tools available for overclocking in Windows, it is a fruitless task looking for similar applications for Mac OS X. This has all changed now. The ZDNet Clock tool for Mac Pro raises the frequency of the processor, FSB and memory.

It wasn't fruitless. Software accelerators had only one choice--the PPC 950FX (G3) that was in some iBook models. It was able to be overclocked by iCooked. The other PPC processors needed hardware based overclocking.

It makes me wonder what this ZDNet thingie is exactly based on.

This was posted in the user news forum already, but I'll post here as well. I tested it on my new Mac Pro, and it works. The faster speeds are not reported by ASP though. I can only tell that it's over-clocked by the ZDNet tool, and by benchmark results.
