mac-os-ash
Hi all, the last time I tried installing OSX on my laptop -Acer Travelmate 8104WLMi, it didn't go too well in terms of compatibility. Having a recent upgrade on my desktop recently has set me down an inquisitive path in search for OSX on my desktop again! But before I get my hopes too high, I'd like to check the hardware compatibility. CPU: Intel C2D E8400 Mainboard: ASUS P5N-D NVIDIA 750i SLI Chipset HDD: It can either be a WD160 SATA/ MAXTOR 60GB IDE GFX: ASUS EN8800GT 512MB RAM: OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 Vista Performance Platinum 2GB Edition X2 Audio: Creative Audigy2 Value Live! 24bit I'd like to find out if any of my hardware is incompatible or is only compatible with certain pre-patched releases of OSX. From what I read/understand, the Penryn and the 8800GT is supported and I can only install OSX on IDE for the Kalyway release so that's not really an issue but I would like to know for sure. Will the on-board ethernet and audio work with any of the suggested releases? What's recommended for me? Tiger/Leopard? JAS, Kalyway or ??? There will be no dual boot for the install, it would be installed on a fresh HDD. Maybe bootcamp if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks in advance. titooo
Don't know how this mobo runs, but you should check the wiki first. I would prefer for example this motherboard: GA-EP35-DS3R v2.1 It only needs to intall kexts for the audio (these kexts can be selected on kalyway 10.5.2 dvd installation) , the rest fo the things works out of the box. As you could see on thje wiki there are several gigabyte mobos that only need kext for the audio. You should also check the components that appear here as I think on the future the work will be done mostly with that mobos... mac-os-ash
Thanks titooo for your reply! I did check the wiki page but my motherboard wasn't listed there, the closest was the P5N32-E SLI Plus which is based on the nForce 680i chipset. As far as I can tell, the latest nForce chipset listed is 680i. Thankfully, I've confirmed that my 8800GT will work but there's still the big question of LAN and Audio (Both internal and external) Hmmnn... Tim Smart
I would go with a motherboard that is a bit more known to work. Otherwise you will be taking a risk. Maybe the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 ( http://www.osx86library.com/hardware/view.php?id=1 ) That has a P35 chipset, is very good for OSx86 and is a good performer. Some more Gigabyte P35 boards: http://www.osx86library.com/hardware/brows...=4&hwSC=P35 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/112333-need-advice-for-my-hardware-configuration/#findComment-795204 Share on other sites
mac-os-ash
Hmmn, maybe I've given the wrong impression about my specs. Well, those are the specs of my current desktop, I'm not making a decion to purchase anymore How do I check my on board audio device? Anyone with a clue ? Tim Smart
Your best bet is to just give it a go haha. Actually: http://www.osx86library.com/hardware/view.php?id=129 Also graphics card: http://www.osx86library.com/hardware/view.php?id=59 CPU will definitely work. Not too sure about sound card though. mac-os-ash
Cool! Thanks for that link! Looks like a gr8 site but what's the 10.5.2 Leo4All v3? Is it some sort of pre-patched release of OSX like Jas? or Kalyway? Tim Smart
Yes you are exactly right. Note that board will work with alot more pre-Patched DVD's, except someone only submitted info for Leo4All v3 on OSx86 Library Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/112333-need-advice-for-my-hardware-configuration/#findComment-796047 Share on other sites
