RetepNamenots
Hey guys, I'm still trying to install Leopard, but it's being a pain... Firstly, I'm having problems with my IDE DVD drive, because it uses the JMicron controller which I can't find a fix for. It just means that the installation won't even begin. So I've tried looking for an alternative method of installation; in this case through VMWare. I'm trying to run the DVD through VMWare so that I can install it, but I'm having problems. I get up to the Leopard Universe background with the spinning cursor, but then it doesn't seem to do anything. Edit: The complete log is attached. It doesn't look too healthy... Here is my VMWare configuration file: config.version = "8"virtualHW.version = "4" scsi0.present = "FALSE" memsize = "256" ide0:0.present = "TRUE" ide0:0.fileName = "Windows NT.vmdk" ide0:0.deviceType = "rawDisk" ide1:0.present = "TRUE" ide1:0.fileName = "G:" ide1:0.deviceType = "cdrom-raw" floppy0.autodetect = "TRUE" sound.present = "TRUE" sound.fileName = "-1" sound.autodetect = "TRUE" svga.autodetect = "TRUE" mks.keyboardFilter = "allow" displayName = "Windows NT" guestOS = "winnt" nvram = "Windows NT.nvram" deploymentPlatform = "windows" virtualHW.productCompatibility = "hosted" tools.upgrade.policy = "useGlobal" ide1:0.autodetect = "FALSE" floppy0.fileName = "A:" extendedConfigFile = "Windows NT.vmxf" paevm="true" uuid.location = "56 4d 09 1b ed e3 82 71-7f 59 df 51 74 92 61 1d" uuid.bios = "56 4d 09 1b ed e3 82 71-7f 59 df 51 74 92 61 1d" ide0:0.redo = "" tools.remindInstall = "TRUE" floppy0.startConnected = "FALSE" checkpoint.vmState = "" ide1:0.startConnected = "FALSE" I really am stuck. I know I could go out and buy a new DVD drive, but I'd really rather not... RetepNamenots
The exact question has been posted a thousand times, why dont you search the forum instead of posting the same question again I have been searching, but I can't find anything on the topic. (Whatever I search for on the forums, it seems to give me back the same topics each time?) And how about attaching a freakin' text file next time instead of a 40 foot long post. Sorry, I didn't realise it was that long; I've changed it now. Gujal
OK Yelnats. Two things 1. You cannot use VMWare to install Leopard using the install DVDs (Kalyway, iatkos, etc) YET. 2. You can install with Kalyway 10.5.2 directly into your machine if you patch it with Zef's Chameleon Patch. If you still do want to run Leopard under VMWare, it is possible by restoring a flat image of leopard (it is floating around about 15G uncompressed). A flat image is a backup of an already installed Leopard OSX86 installation. So you can do it yourself by installing your Kalyway on a supported machine and then imaging the drive yourself. RetepNamenots
Thanks for the reply, I've patched the .iso now and I am burning it to disk. If all doesn't go well, I've got a new DVD drive coming tomorrow. If I don't need it for this it doesn't matter anyway; I really should go to using a SATA DVD drive rather than an IDE one anyway! I'll let you know how it goes, but once again thanks.
