I'm considering to go for an OSx86 installation in a system that I'm using every weekend with Windows XP. It's not my main system but I wouldn't like to invest too much time if you know this is not going to work or if I'm going to have problems with it.

Here are the details of what I have installed into an Antec Sonata Case:

  • Gigabyte GA-8PE667 motherboard.
  • Chipset Intel Brookdale i845PE
  • Socket 478
  • Intel Pentium 4, 2533 MHz (19 x 133)
  • 2 DIMMS of 512 MB of DDR Memory PC2700
  • ATI Radeon 9600 video card
  • Terratec SixPack 5.1+ sound card, optionally I can use the onboard Realtek AC'97 (ALC650) soundcard
  • Different sizes Seagate IDE drives.
  • Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-108
  • Plextor PX-W2410A

One of my main concerns is the Internet connectivity, because I'm connected using a 3,5G HSDPA card, a Novatel Wireless Ovation HSDPA Modem. The ISP provides a driver and software for MacOS X and it says is compatible with Tiger and Leopard.

The processor only supports SSE2, but I think I could upgrade easily and with not too much cost to a SSE3 enable Pentium IV Prescott processor.

Do you think it's worth to try?

Wich OS X should I go for?
