Deadmoo boot problems; safe mode boot shuts cpu down

I dd'ed the deadmoo image to a second internal HD with a partition in AF format. When I boot I get to the black Darwin load page and hit enter, I'll get the grey apple screen and then after a minute or so I get a screen with like 12 blocks in differing shades of blue and then a shaded area where the dock should be and a shaded area at the top where the taskbar should be. My mouse works and if I click up along the top bar it brings up a blank drop down menu. Tried to boot in safe mode and it shuts my computer down each time I tried it. I do -v and get a ton of stuff and I have no clue what it means. I really don't know what to try from here.

 

I'm using this right now:

Emachine T3406

2.93ghz Celeron D 340

Intel D865GVHZ mobo

256RAM

Maxtor 40GB HD w/deadmoo

Apple keyboard and mouse

 

but I've got a bunch of stuff coming from newegg on Wednesday to build my own desktop so it's not that important that I get it running on this system, I'm just messing around at this point but not being able to fix anything else with this is going to drive me crazy so any help would be great, thanks.
