Maybe someone here can help, I have done searches and tried tons of things, nothing can get this OSX install to boot....

I had my system up and running fine with 10.5.3 (with all drivers and a bunch of apps, running really good), then about a little longer than a month ago, it takes down some update, from that point, the system is dead. I've been busy so I have not had time to play with it.

What happens now is, I boot with the chain0 method (as I have all along), or the DVD (from Kalyway or iatkos), the system will just reboot (after about 2-3 seconds). I have tried to copy over the kernal again, and even used a install disc and only tried to install the kernal. Still same problem.

If I boot with a disc, and try to fix or "repair" the drive, it just bombs out after checking the disc, doing a security check gives the same result then the drive is unmounted and nothing can be done with it. If I do info on it when it first comes up, it says it's unwritable. There is nothing I can do with this partition now, no matter what I do. It does read the drive name but, not sure what is going on.

I really would like to repair this install if possable or am I screwed ? (no backup)

Try this

When you start up the computer and get to the Darwin Boot Load press F8. then type in "update -v" without quotation marks. Helped me, its gonna go through some code like when you installed so it will take a little while.

Second thing, What kernel are you using?

I tried the update with the Vanilla Kernel (9.3) and experienced the same re-boot problem but changed kernels and YAH!

Will try when I get home from the office (Thanks !!!). As I am not infront of it and don't have my notes, I believe it was the Darwin X86 bootloader....Installed from iatkos 1.0ir2. Does this make a difference here ? All I want is it back up and running again (then try to fix the other minor issues with it)

Thanks again, I'll post my results.....

Ok, "update -v" does nothing. It just loops prompting me what to load.

Here's an interesting one for any experts. When I setup my hackintosh, I set it up with a password. So if I try to re-copy the kernel over, it tells me that it's write protected (doing via terminal), is there a command to log into the file system in linux/OSX terminal so I can attempt to re-write the kernel and maybe fix this problem ?
