I have spent so much money on my computer just to get osx working. I have:

Gigabyte M61P-S3

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ (dual core 2.8GHz)

2GB DDR2-800

250GB Seagate SATA drive

SATA DVD drive

IDE DVD drive

USB HDD Drive

Behringer UCA-202 USB sound card

EVGA 256MB 8600GT

4GB IDE hard drive

20GB IDE hard drive

USB mouse (x2)

USB keyboard

PS/2 mouse

PS/2 keyboard

these 5 installation disks downloaded at avg. of 5 kb/s: 10.5.1 Zephyroth, Kalyway 10.5.1, iAtkos v1.0 ir2, JaS 10.4.8, Kalyway 10.4.10

I'm not sure there is censorship on this forum, so I'll just say that it is BS that I have to go out and buy an intel motherboard and cpu now to be sure that osx will work. I'm going to keep trying with what I have, but as soon as I get the money I'm going to go and buy the cheapest combo that works out of the box. I'd like to avoid used stuff because that just opens up to more problems...

I deserve a real Apple Macintosh after all my troubles and the money/time which has so far been wasted. But since that's not going to happen, what's the cheapest intel cpu/mobo I can get? When and if I get it I'll just split the hardware I have between the amd and intel systems....

thanks

Ebay is the place. You should be able to find the Asrock 945G board and a core 2 duo for really cheap. Or if you prefer a new CPU then the E7200 is the new budget superstar. Only limit of the 945 you need to keep in mind is a 4GB memory limit and usually a 1066 FSB limit. Some Asrock 945 models can do 1333 fsb but its over clocked and probably not a good idea.

The GMA 950 should work fine but if any decent games come out then you could investigate buying a dedicated GPU.

hmmm... on ebay, a Celeron 420 is ~$40, and then its dual core counterpart is ~$55, so I'd go with the E1200. Plus the 945G is on ebay for $80. So ~$60 plus ~$80 is ~$140. I don't have that kind of money right now, but maybe I'll get the stuff in the future if I have to. I can't see myself investing so much into this without succeeding.
