10.4.3 Sharing preferences won't open?

I just installed 10.4.3 onto a MSI 915gm-fr with a Prescott 530 (3ghz HT) and 1gb of dual channel 3200. Most everything went smoothly (except the audio and the VIA raid, no biggy). In trying to better integrate it into my network though, I've found the Sharing Preferences under the network settings wont open. This is what it says when I click on Sharing...

"You cannot open Sharing preferences pane on this computer. Contact the developer of this software for a newer version"

Honestly, I haven't a clue whats wrong...I'm a total newbie to OSX, or any nix based OS at that. I could turn an XP machine inside out and back again no problem, this I'm lost on though. The networking still works fine, I can browse out to my XP machine FROM OSX, and I can even VNC into OSX, but have no external method of accessing the hdd's on the network. Any suggestions?

Sorry, I forgot to mention, it's the 8f1111a with JaS patch 4.2b in it.

I figured out how to remove the sharing prefs app, and reinstall it, but still get the same error, would it be a hopeful fix to try and pull the sharing prefs app from a different build? and, if so, how would I go about it? sorry, yes, I be newbie...

You might want to try using Tiger Cache Cleaner. It claims to be able to fix problems like yours with preference panes and stuff (with it's advanced options). I heard about it from this post. I hope it helps you. :dev:

How about deleting com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist

Try this in your terminal

sudo rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist

Then just restart OS X.

(keep in mind that in osx, sometimes, when an app or pref is crashing, it's caused by a corrupted preference file)

Hey, thanks for the tip. I gave it a shot with no luck I guess. I did the Repair Pre-bindings even with no result...either way its cool app to have, so thanks

Did you read the 'User Manual.pdf' that came in the Tiger Cache Cleaner .dmg? Specifically, look at pages 6 and 7 about Cache Cleaning - it specifically talks about Sytem Preferences problems... That's what I was suggesting.
