My G5 2.0 is painfully slow with certain operations (especially video rendering) and I'm feeling like a change. The Core 2 Quad Q9300 and GIGABYTE GA-EX38-DS4 MB seem like a potent combination with room to grow. This combination is cool running and energy efficient but I need a computer case that works with ATX and the 7 expansion slots. I am actually looking for something older and not black or silver, pukey off white will do. Can anyone remember or have a favorite "older" white case they can recommend. Hoping to run firewire, usb and headphones to the front and possibly a filter, not that important though. Thanks

Hey man, I was in precisely your situation (working with video on a 2.0 G5), and built a computer with precisely that combination. I ended up just looking for a cheap case that fit my needs, and found one that came with an OK PSU at Tiger Direct for like $70. It's black, but aluminum and lightweight, with really good airflow, and it even came with a fan. Finding a case was easy for me, but then again I only had a few requirements - 1, no flashy cheesy LED lighting effects nonsense. 2, good airflow. 3, plenty of drive bays. 4, fit my config, obviously. 5, cheap.

Any particular reason you're looking for a more typical "older" style white case? I'm just curious because I don't think they exist in any great quantity these days, and most people on here aren't likely to use them.

Well It's not white, the exact opposite actually, but I'm considering this for my next Hack:

Holds 8 HDDs, 2 opticals, 1 floppy & comes with 6 fans - not crazy about the side window though.

I was trying to combine inexpensive, recycle and stealth in one package. 90's white is kinda like 70's bell bottoms, it's reeeaaa....ly outa style and with a Quad in it, outa site man, need some flowers painted on it is all. Just hoping to find a cool older case to upgrade with and avoid the UFO lights and clear side openings and fans blowing every which way, the only thing these new cases lack are legs to get up with and follow you around the house. Knewsom your previous posts regarding the Quad Q9300 inspired me to jump in head first, thanks.

I gotta say, I'm really amazed my project and posts have inspired others... :) Thanks for the kind words, and best of luck with it man, keep us posted on how she turns out!!!
