I just installed 10.4.3 on a thinkpad. Everything is working great except I cant get the wireless card working... not that I even know where to begin.

I keep reading posts of people editting or adding kext files and 8011family files and so on but i dont know where they are or what to edit in them. I also tried installing a driver I found in the wiki.

The card is a d-link dwl-g650 which is apparently atheros based or rt2500 based. Theres also a dwl-650+ I can use if the other one is not supported.

Can someone just point me in the right direction or what to edit or add and where to get it? Searching the forums hasnt done much for me its just many people vaguely saying what they did.

Are there any extreme newb guides except for the install ones? cause I cant find any.

Thanks for your help.

Ok ...

I'll try to help you, to get your network card up and running :)

Just follow these steps:

1. Download Pacifist.

2. Get the Mac OS X Update 10.4.5 for Intel.

3. Open the dmg file using Pacifist.

4. Search for these files: IO80211Family.kext and IONetworkingFamily.kext

5. Extract them to your desktop by dragging them. You can close Pacifist now.

6. Open a Finder window, browse to /System/Library/Extensions/ , make a copy of the two files you're going to overwrite , now drag the two files from your desktop into the extensions folder. It will ask you if you want to overwrite them , do so , then authenticate.

7. Delete the Extensions.kextcache files in /Sytem/Library

8. Reboot your machine

Now you're network card should be up.

I have an Atheros-based miniPCI card and run under 10.4.3.

What I and others did was only add IO80211Family.kext from the 10.4.5 upgrade. I kept the original IONetworkingFamily.kext from 10.4.3.
