metaljay
ok, i will b so great ful if sum1 can help me in anyway poss i have/had vista preinstalled on my sony vaio laptop , it had a recovery partiton (was disk0s1) and vista was (disk0s2) i cudnt create a partition in vista not sure y, so i removed my recovery partition and installed leopard on that everything was perfect all worked, and i liked leopard more than vista so i wanted to increase its partition i followed this guide :http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=68612&start=0#entry497648 , i used a partition program on my vista to create a new partition (and asumed it was blank as i had like 200gb free) little did i no it split my hardrive and all its contents (it created disk0s3) so on s1 i would have leopard, s2 vista and s3 vista parts i didnt no this at the time and proceeded to join partitons , firstly formating the partition to mac os extneded journaled and merged them together (i didnt apply write zero data, just simple erase) now its screwed my laptop up i just get b0 error so my Q's are: 1.can i recover the data i 'erased' and unmerge the drives and basicly get back to normal 2. formate my WHOLE drive completly so i can return to sony and say i just screwed up a format? please any advise or tips most welcome edit # btw wen i mean bits of vista, i mean C:Windows and C: program files etc, all the important data Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/101546-major-problem/ Share on other sites

x4hu
did you try to make your first partition active ? Try to get a gparted live cd and see if you can still boot on disk0s1 / disk0s2 (osx / vista)... Since you did a simple erase and didnt write anything on it, I think you can recover some files. Unless you do a low-format on your HD s0ny will see what happened on it... Yuusharo
Hate adding the too little too late line, but this would be a good time to mention that you should always backup your data, especially before changing the partition scheme. iPirate
Try to get a copy of Vista from anywhere you can. Preferably a retail version where you can select which partition to install to (As opposed to the versions that come bundled with your hardware -> Destroy everything else and install afresh). But if you really want to erase everything, why not use that Leopard disk you have (Or whatever thing you erased it to HFS with). Run Disk Utility instead of the installer and wipe the entire drive, perhaps as "MS-DOS (Fat32)" (making sure to zero out all data, I think it's an option you can select near the erase button). I hope this wasn't that terrible an experience for you Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/101546-major-problem/#findComment-725514 Share on other sites
