  1. This is bothering me for a long time now: Why does Apple deliberately disables the the RX4xx, RX5xx capabilities to hardware encode HEVC and is using Intel Quicksync instead? Is it to make the iMacPro look better than it is? I stumbled over a thread at tony-mac where people are going a totally different road for Radeon graphics. Instead of hassling around with getting Quicksync to work, they proposed to activate the AMD hardware renderer for Polaris GPU's. I tried it out and it works...somewhat I used a dummy kext from that tomato thread and edited it, so that it enables the AMDU7V4 IOGVACodec like on Vega cards, switched to iMacPro1,1 SMBIOS from iMac18,3, disabled the IGPU and the results were astonishing: My 3:34min 4k50p film was rendered by FCP with HEVC in 2:34 minutes. Nearly half the time than with Quicksync! With the iMac18 SMBIOS and the "help" of Intel Quicksync it took FCP 4:41 minutes to get it done! The problem is: As soon as the "wrong" IOGVACodec is enabled H.264 encoding leads to Mojave crashing at once (be it FCP, QuickTime or Videoproc). Watching H264 material is fine, though. If anyone has any idea how to handle this, I would be very grateful. I would even accept Mojave using software encoding for H264 if I could keep this amazing speeds on HEVC! BTW: Without IGPU on iMacPro1,1 SMBIOS no problem with DRM or iTunes, no need for Whatevergreen or Shiki. That is a bonus Ellesmere.kext.zip
  2. Hi Insanlymac’ers. I have a super deal on a WX9100 Radeon Pro Vega, but I only have 12 hours to repond, or it’s gone. Is this card able to run in High Sierra and take advantage of all 16GB ram? Thanks in advance!

Sapphire Radeon RX Vega 64 on macOS

IF ANYBODY CAN HELP THAT WOULD BE GREAT!!! Just recently bought a: Sapphire Radeon RX VEGA 64 8GB ~ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074HCCWW9/ Kinda new to the whole AMD graphics card on Hackintosh thing. Always used the nvidia cards and know how to do it that way. Does anybody know what I'm suppose to do in order for the mac to recognize the card the right way? Currently what is happening is mac OS is booting with my new AMD card but the graphics in the system profile is only showing Display 7MB and the resolution is at 1600x1200. The nvidia card I used to have was working fine with my 4K monitor and giving me 4K resolution when I booted the OS. What am I suppose to do? Is there something specific in Clover I need to do? FakeID or kext? Currently I am not using any boot flags of any sort, never had to with the nvidia card. I know people have said they been able to boot the Vega 64 cards OOB with no issues. Not having that type of luck. I attached the current clover config file I'm using, if that helps. config.plist.zip
  4. I have problems with Amazon Prime on my system under HighSierra 10.13. AmazonPrime videos are played in HighSierra with 720p, in Windows 10 with 1080p. Graphics card is a Vega 56 (flashed to 64), monitor (1440p) connected via DP, Shiki.kext is installed (but makes no sense), CPU is an Intel i9 7900X. Movies/trailers with DRM can be played without problems. Someone have some tips for me to solve my problem? PS: In Photoshop I have to deactivate the checkbox "Use native operating system GPU acceleration", otherwise the program crashes after a few clicks. But I've activated GPU acceleration and it works, but not the "native" GPU acceleration. Maybe there is still a problem with the graphics card. (running now native, OOB)
