  1. Hi, I've just upgraded to OSX Catalina from Mojave on my VMWare Workstation 15.5, running on Windows 10. The Sidecar feature is there, and after connecting my iPad Pro 12.9" 2018 running iPadOS 13.1.2 via USB cable, it is recognized as a display device in the Sidecar preferences. However, when I enable it, the Sidecar screen on the iPad is completely black / blank. I can't send anything over, and if I mouse over the green + on an app window (i.e. Safari) to move it to the iPad, nothing happens and the screen remains blank. The sidebar will only appear after I turn it off and on again at Catalina's Sidecar preferences. The buttons there actually work. For example, if I move Safari over to iPad, the screen is blank, but if I activate the on-screen virtual keyboard and type there, the text actually goes to the Safari's search bar (the Safari still appears on the desktop). Is this a compatibility issue with VMWare, where Catalina can't properly recognize the second screen? I've tried changing host VM settings too, i.e. to "host setting" or 2 monitors, enable / disable 3D acceleration, nothing works. the iPad is definitely correctly connected, as I can browse / backup its data at the Finder. Can anyone please advice on how to enable Sidecar properly in VMWare? Thank you. Below is a screenshot of how it looks like on my iPad:
  2. Im making a split view product search app for the iPad, that gets the data from a web service. but I'm having trouble getting the data to show up in my master tableview controller (the small table view on the left) is my parsing done correctly? - (void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection { NSString *responseString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:self.responseData encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSString * newStr = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:[self.responseData bytes]]; [self parseXML]; } - (void) parseXML { NSLog (@"parseXML"); NSXMLParser *xmlParser = [[NSXMLParser alloc] initWithData:self.responseData]; [xmlParser setDelegate:self]; myMasterList = [[MasterList alloc] init]; if (![xmlParser parse]) { NSLog (@"An error occurred in the parsing"); } } - (void)parserDidStartDocument:(NSXMLParser *)parser { NSLog (@"parserDidStartDocument"); inItemElement = NO; } - (void)parserDidEndDocument:(NSXMLParser *)parser { NSLog (@"parserDidEndDocument"); } // Called when the parser encounters a start element - (void) parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didStartElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qualifiedName attributes:(NSDictionary *)attributeDict { if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"str_smartsearch"]) { inItemElement = YES; } capturedCharacters = [[NSMutableString alloc] initWithCapacity:50]; capturedCharacters = [[NSMutableString alloc] initWithCapacity:250]; } - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didEndElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qName { if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"description"]) { myMasterList.masterDecript = capturedCharacters; NSLog(@" decription:%@", capturedCharacters); } if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"onhand"]) { myMasterList.masterOnHand = capturedCharacters; } if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"price"]) { myMasterList.masterPrice = capturedCharacters; } if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"itemno"]) { myMasterList.masterItem = capturedCharacters; [masterArray addObject:myMasterList]; myMasterList = nil; } capturedCharacters = nil; if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"str_smartsearch"]) { inItemElement = NO; } } - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser foundCharacters:(NSMutableString *)string { if (capturedCharacters != nil) { [capturedCharacters appendString:string]; } else { [capturedCharacters isEqual:string]; } } I've token out the NS logs and such, to make it easier to read. i've been stuck on this for while. all i need is for it to show up on my master tableview and iill basically be done with this app.
  4. I know its good when changing form landscape to portrait orientation but is it good for transitioning from iPhone Storyboard to iPad? the iPhone version is going to be only portrait but the iPad version of my app will support landscape orientation and portrait. (the iPad storyboard is just going to be a bigger version of the app [bigger/more images, bigger tableview, it will not have any split views or multiple tableviews] almost exactly the same)
  5. how many old versions should my app be compatible with? so far im thinking just iOS5, and iOS6, since I've read that close to 90% of all iOS users update their devices. and when iOS7 comes out, for future apps and versions should i let the app be backwards compatible with iOS5? given that the original iPad and iPhone 3G is going to be stuck with iOS5. does people know how the percentage of people using older devices? how long will i have to be able to support these older devices and OS?

  8. I'm trying to have a modal view controller that i call programmatically. heres my code: - (IBAction)searchView:(id)sender { GlobalStrings* theDataObject = [self theGlobalClass]; if (theDataObject.presentSearch == nil) { UIStoryboard *storyboard = [uIStoryboard storyboardWithName:@"MainStoryboard" bundle:nil]; UIViewController *vc = [storyboard instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier:@"SearchBarViewController"]; [vc setModalPresentationStyle:UIModalPresentationFullScreen]; [self presentModalViewController:vc animated:YES]; } UIStoryboard *storyboard = [uIStoryboard storyboardWithName:@"MainStoryboard" bundle:nil]; UIViewController *vc = [storyboard instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier:@"SearchBarViewController"]; [vc setModalPresentationStyle:UIModalPresentationFullScreen]; } i get a sigbart error, is it because the view controller I'm calling is a navigation controller? i also have a similar method in my "ViewWillAppear" for my log in screen.

    The OSX tablet experience?

In the wake of the iPad "Pro" being anything but a professional tool for artists, (if I can't run my Adobe CC apps, then it is no good to me) I'm contemplating loading OSX onto a Samsung Ativ 700T or Microsoft Surface 3, as these units seem to have the most developed guides and are closest to fully-functioning. The Cintiq is under consideration, but seems to be still a work in progress. Most of the discussion regarding OSX on a tablet seems to focus on the aspects of proof-of-concept and getting hardware components to work rather than the long-term experience of digital artists using OSX-ified tablet with their favorite apps like Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. So, assuming that anyone is actually doing this, what's it like? How comparable is it to a Cintiq Companion? Any bugs with using touch/stylus and OSX? Any recommendations for either the Samsung or Microsoft tablet (or is there another option I should consider)? Please share your thoughts - thanks!
  11. I'm not sure why at all. I tried disabling pretty much every bit of code on my site with no luck. This is my first time developing for an iPad. When the user scrolls down, even one pixel, then the menu can be activated about 50px below the menu while ALSO still being able to work directly on the menu. It's like it then detects the menu in two places while it is only in one? Has anyone ever heard of an issue like this? The website is http://fastgateopeners.com and the issue happens on an iPad in landscape. Not any Android tablets/phones and not on an iPhone. Please help.
  12. In my app I'm planning to combine my "popular" and "new" viewcontrollers into one, and have the "new" items have badges saying "new" what should this view controller be called? i was thinking something like "Hot Items, or What's Hot" with a tab bar icon of a fire or something. any suggestions?
  13. Anyone else having issues updating their provisioning profiles using OTA? i cant install using our OTA website or sending the profile to my email account on my devices.
