  1. Hello My wife's early 2009 Snow Leopard iMac has started failing to boot properly and I'm looking for some troubleshooting tips. Booting from cold, it gets past the logon screen and starts loading the desktop. It's quite slow at this point, but does load all the (hundreds of!) icons on the desktop. It also tries to re-open Firefox which had a lot of tabs open. Initially it would load a Firefox window but not complete loading the internals. On one boot I think I managed to close Firefox and now it still tries to load but just displays "Firefox" in the title bar with no windows. I can initially access a few menus, spotlight, Finder, the dock, but any further action results in a beach ball for these, and they can't be accessed again. I was able to navigate Finder to try to launch Terminal but just it just gave me the beach ball. I've left it like this for about half an hour but it doesn't get any further and I have to force shutdown (long press of power button). I tried booting to safe mode (holding down S on startup) but the end result was the same. I've been able to boot to a live ubuntu USB disk and can access files on the hard disk, so I've started a backup. We have a time machine backup but it's not that recent. I'm hoping it's just a corrupt file, but suspect it's the hard disk starting to fail. What's the best way to troubleshoot this? Thanks
  2. Hi; When I browse insanelymac topics, macOS freezes for several seconds, then gives a feeedback, but then freezes,... it repeats until I close the tab (I have to hold command+W keys multiple times and for several seconds). It happens when I reach to that embedded video ad in the page. I have to browse with JS disabled. I tried some html5 video test pages and there was no problem on them.
  3. Hi guys. My first post here. I have trouble getting my Intel HD 5500 QE/CI to work. I've changed my DVMT setting to 64 and 96MB, but every time I try to boot, the graphics injection works fine but it freezes/hangs after that. If I delete AppleIntelBDWGraphics.kext it does boot and shows me correct VRAM info and brightness control. The laptop in question is an HP 250 G5 with an i3 5005U, HD 5500 and 8GB DDR3 RAM. I have tried all ig-platform-id's and Clover patches. Does this sound like a hardware/incompatibility issue? If you need more info let me know. Thanks in advance.
  4. Hello there everyone. I recently put together a CL hackintosh for a somebody else and it mostly works fine; however, he's been having a problem that I (so far) haven't been able to replicate. He sometimes gets odd beachballs that end up freezing the computer into needing a cold shutdown and boot; which usually in turn freeze halfway through the boot process only for a reboot to work. Recently he mentioned this happened after several hours of sleep (left the computer sleeping during the night), so I'll try reproducing it later. However, I'm trying to figure out what the actual problem might be. I've got a theory: Wake-up issues with the NVME controller. Why? I've been experiencing similar issues on my real MBP (2011) because the secondary HD ribbon cable has been coming loose. Of course, since it's just a secondary drive, it's a large inconvenience but it doesn't completely shut the computer down. It would certainly be different if this was happening with the primary drive, though. What do people think about this? It's the first time I've built a hackintosh with modern hardware (my own is Ivy Bridge) and I'd never tried NVME before, so there's been plenty of trial and error involved in this build. Stats: CPU: i7-8700 MB: Gigabyte Z370-HD3P RAM: 32 GB DDR4 Video: Asus RX580 Drives: Samsung 940 EVO, 2x 1TB HDDs. Wifi/BT: BCM94331 Other than this issue, pretty much everything seems to be working fine on 10.13.2 (with the exception of the CPU saying Unknown on "About this Mac" but I guess that's cosmetic and expected)
  5. so i have clover installed and windows 8 installed as uefi. when i boot windows through the bios it works fine but when i boot windows efi through clover it goes to the windows boot logo spins a few times then my monitor just turns off. the computer is still on and the fans are still running so i cant tell if windows is still running just without the graphics card. when i start windows in safemode through clover though it boots just fine. anyone else have this issue or know how to solve it? I have a gtx770 and z87x-ud3h Thanks
  6. I made my USB boot drive using #####, but when I select it as my boot device, and try to boot, it says: boot0: GPT boot0: test boot0: test boot0: done And it just stops there, with a blinking cursor. I can't get to the installation screen. Does anyone know what problem I'm having, and how I can fix it? Thanks
  7. Hello, I have a problem getting the installer to load I have done the install method (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/289062-109-mavericks-simple-vanilla-hackintosh-install-guide/) Short desc: the bootloader is Enoch-chameleon r2748, on GPT/HFS+, for legacy bios The issue is when I boot the install usb drive, it starts in verbose, then a gray screen with the rainbow-mouse shows up, and hangs on there. @native resolution. The installation screen doesn't show up I have searched on google before posting I have previously used this method with Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and it worked fine, I think there's somethin wrong with the loading process of it: when i did the same on ML, it worked My Specz: GA z77m D3H motherboard (F14 rom Bios&Uefi modes) Intel i7-2600 SandyBridge (no oc, all settings stock) AMD R7-265 (Sapphire Dual-X) 8GB ram (2x4 1333) Display Dell 22' on main gpu DVI out HD Wd CV green 1Tb/ SSD transcend 64GB Detailed desc. My motherboard series is known to work OOTB, and it does on Yosemite, better on ML. The usb will boot even without kext and other mods, Are added fakesmc, dsdt, acpi patch, libc, libc++ from Enoch. I used cameleon instead of clover (will try when installed on HD) because it crashes on my Virtualbox VM (osx 10.11), also crash creating uefi partitions. Bios settings seems to be correct.. Boot args: >/Kernel (to load original kernel (10.10, also 10.11 works) from usb root/kernel) >/Kernel -F -x -v dart=0 acpi=0 pcirootuid=1 graphicsenabler=no (dont help )

Verbose output says something like "Version of IOUSBFamily version requested by GenericUSBXHCI.kext incompatible (5.0.0a1)" (sorry, this isn't verbatim, I don't have the exact output with me) I tried looking at the Info.plist for the IOUSBFamily kext, and it said version 4.4.0, while GenericUSBXHCI requested 5.0.0a1; I've been unable to find another version online? I do not have an AHCI option in my BIOS. Does anybody have any experience with my laptop? I don't mind if I can't use Mavericks, any OSX version will be plenty for me. com.apple.Fontd Hang Lion

So I've had a Leopard Machine running for a year or two now without too much issue. I recently (in the last few months) got Lion running Near Perfectly (have to leave my usb wifi adapter unplugged during boot) and figured after it being "stable" for this long while it should be ok to migrate on over to using it as my main partition. I copied most everything manually (Pictures/Contacts/Media etc.) but opted to use the migration assistant just for the apps. everything went well (or so it seemed) and i continued using the machine for a few hours. Shut down as normal and the next morning I couldn't get logged in to the Lion Partition. The machine Boots gets as far as showing my background and Sometimes even the menubar will appear. Then i get the magical beach ball of death. Spinning cursor and that is it. I can hear some disk activity on and off, but nothing responds. Eventually i had to turn off the machine. I checked the log files from the Leopard partition and found the strange errors below. Dec 17 20:24:39 Jordans-Mac-Pro com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[2059] (com.apple.ATSServer): The following job tried to hijack the service "com.apple.FontObjectsServer" from this job: com.apple.fontd Dec 17 20:24:39 Jordans-Mac-Pro com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[2059] (com.apple.fontd[2094]): Exited with code: 76 Dec 17 20:24:39 Jordans-Mac-Pro com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[2059] (com.apple.fontd): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds Dec 17 20:24:49 Jordans-Mac-Pro com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[2059] (com.apple.ATSServer): The following job tried to hijack the service "com.apple.FontObjectsServer" from this job: com.apple.fontd Dec 17 20:24:49 Jordans-Mac-Pro com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[2059] (com.apple.fontd[2104]): Exited with code: 76 Dec 17 20:24:49 Jordans-Mac-Pro com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[2059] (com.apple.fontd): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds Dec 17 20:24:59 Jordans-Mac-Pro com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[2059] (com.apple.ATSServer): The following job tried to hijack the service "com.apple.FontObjectsServer" from this job: com.apple.fontd This is repeated over and over in the log file never varying. So i think I've found the "hang" but I'm not sure what to do to fix the error. I tried booting in safe mode, no go. I've cleared the font caches since that what the errors seemed to refer me to. I tried creating a new user (Single User Mode still works of course) to see if maybe there was a bad font in the user folder. Same result with the other user profile. Any ideas here? Again everything was running fine so I have to believe that migration assistant caused the fault. Perhaps it copied over some bad fonts? I checked the time machine backup from before and my /Library/fonts and /system/library/fonts both seemed to be fine. My System: Intel Core2Duo 2.21 GHz MSI 975x Platinum Power-Up Edition 2GB Ram Radeon HD 4870 Operating Systems Available on Machine: Leopard (10.5.8) Lion (10.7.2) Windows 7 Windows Vista
  10. I encountered a hang when installing snow leopard on my HP 210 atom N570 netbook. I had the install log open, and the last item was something about updating the dyld caches (it was about 90-95% done). Background: I put iATKOS S3 v2 on a USB, then ran netbook installer. On the Netbook, I ran a liveCD of gparted, and created a 100GB HFS+ partition (I then had to reformat the partition with the installer to add journaling). I started the install on my netbook. I set some appropriate options in the "customise" area. The install went fine until towards the end when the system hung (except for the mouse). I waited for another 40 minutes to see if it would come back, but it didn't. I tried booting into the partially installed system, but unsurprisingly, nothing happened. I tried installing again, this time I left the install log open. Again the install hung. The last item in the log was something about updating the dyld caches. This time I left it overnight, but it didn't help. Does anyone have any ideas? I have spent a bunch of time searching the web and searching forums for any similar experiences. I think I selected the right options in the install, however I am not sure. I assume that choosing the wrong options would not cause the install to hang. Is this correct?
  11. Hello everybody, I have a Toshiba Satellite C660 with this hardware: - CPU Intel i5 2410M - Chipset: HM65 - NVIDIA GeForce 315M I've tried to install OS X 10.11 with no luck. I've prepared everything following the guide and using Clover Legacy as bootloader. Whenever I try to boot from USB with "-v" it hangs with an underscore for a while after I select the USB to boot from. After about 1 minute it starts loading stuff but it won't go after that. It keeps displaying something new occasionally but after 10 minutes it hangs on "Waiting for DSMOS...". It seems something related with FakeSMC.kext but it's already on "EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other". I don't know what to do. I hope someone will be wanting to help me
  12. Just about any animation in Safari causes the graphics engine to hang, sometimes it recovers and others I have to force shutdown. It happens when I move a window around or when I click on a Facebook notification that opens in Safari. Sometimes even opening Safari causes the hang. The "Genie" animation causes it the most but even the "Scale" animation causes it as well. The zip file attached contains the message I get in console, my DSDT, SMBIOS, IOReg, and Enoch config file. I have an Inspiron N5110, Sandy Bridge, Core i3-2350m with HD3000, El Capitan 10.11, Enoch boot loader. MacLaggin MacBook Pro.zip

  14. Well all day now ive been trying to get this working. And i managed to get it to go further than it would before. But then, when i boot it with -v bootflag, this comes up "USING 4587 BUFFER HEADERS AND 4096 CLUSTERS IO BUFFER HEADERS" and it wont go past it. Has anyone else come accross this problem and how did you go about fixing it, or how would i get past it? Laptop Spec: ATI Radeon IGP 345M 128mb Intel Pentium 4 3.06GHz 1GB ram
  15. I am new to this forum so be kind Before I begin, these are my specs: AMD Athlon II x4 ASRock N68C-S UCC mobo 8gb DDR3 Hyper X RAM Samsung Spinpoint 1tb HDD Ok so I have successfully installed Leopard on my build using iDeneb but I now want to install Snow Leopard using Hazard. This has worked before (a while ago) but I only had 1 hard drive at the time so I decided to scrap OSX and just use Windows. But now I have 2 hard drives and I want to install OSX again. The problem occurs after I have loaded Hazard with BootCD. When Hazards starts it opens a dark grey screen (no apple logo) and hangs their with the multicoloured mouse wheel loader thing spinning, I have left it for a good 10 minutes but nothing has happened? Suggestions please! Thankyou!
  16. Hi everyone, My Hackintosh, with the specs outlined below, was running great until it started hanging on boot this morning when I turned it on. A picture with the last lines of the verbose boot is attached. When I try to boot into recovery mode, it panics and restarts after a while of waiting. The graphics, WiFi, everything was working well and not presenting issue previously. The nv_disable=1 flag doesn't get it to boot. It's set as Mac Pro 3,1 and the config.plist file hasn't been changed since it worked. NVIDIA web drivers are installed (graphics card was working perfectly) and for once this doesn't seem to be the issue. It hangs in the same place if I boot in safe mode as well. AWDL appears to be causing the trouble... When I tried to boot into the recovery mode in safe mode it panicked, restarted, and I got some more. I apologize that the photos uploaded upside-down. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Installation hang at 16%

Hello together, i've got the following problem: I want to install OSX Mountain Lion to an HP nx6125 Notebook. It has an AMD Turion x64 CPU and 1GB of Ram. I am using the AMD Kernel for ML, and my CPU gets detected correctly. 1. My IDE HardDrive isn't detected, this is not that worse, cause I want to install it to an USB 3.0 Stick. 2. The installation freezes at 16%. My Bootflags are: :amd_kernel -v GraphicsEnabler=No Does anybody know, howto fix these Problems? Regards Sa_2307 P.S. I'm using an USB Stick, using the UniBea Bootloader P.S.S. My installation package of the extensions is corrupt, so installing it without extensions worked.
  18. Hello, I've been trying to install osx lion n my dell xps m1330 via the ###### method from this guide. http://www.phacks.net/how-to-install-lion-10-7-2-on-dell-xps-m1330-using-usb-install-method/ One small change is that I have the x3100 version of the system. The problem is that the installation hangs at the install screen. I get past the boot and everything. Its when I'm actually at the GUI that everything randomly hangs. My usb normally flashes a lot portraying transfer but it just shows no light. I'm using the following tags to boot up into the installer. npci=0x2000 GraphicsEnabler=No USBBusFix=Yes -v -x Any help is much appreciated.
  19. Hi, I have recently installed OSX on my AMD machine and I got everything working (including graphics), but i messed something up and had to reinstall. I installed OSX with nawcom's mod disc and retail snowleopard dvd. Everything works except for my graphics card (XFX ATI 5850). The last time I got it working i used GraphicsEnabler, but this time i don't get that far. I get stopped by the ** Device in slot: slot--1 ** error message. I have tried PCIRoot=1, update fakesmc, run in non-64-bit mode, ATY_init.kext and iopcifamiliy.kext, but i still doesn't work (I don't get the same error message with each method). I'm currently running 10.6.6. Might it help to update to 10.6.8? Can anyone help me with this?
  20. Hi, How do i check what is preventing sleep by terminal? It has to be a process, DSDT and kexts are fine, fresh install. Had this problem before, edited DSDT until i went insane, was the Boom application Simply forgot how to check it, any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
  21. Been having some trouble getting 10.11 to completely start up. @Shaneee has been working with me over here valiantly for the last several days, but we've really hit a roadblock. He suggested that some folks here, particularly @Spakk, might chime in and know what's going on. Essentially we've gotten to the point where the system starts and we're at the login screen, but then it goes black and is hung. `sshd` is non-responsive and the system will not respond whatsoever. Here is a video to further illustrate. We've tried various kernels that @Shaneee's provided that he thought would work out, but no luck. The issues started out primarily as an Nvidia issue, but after it's bios was flashed and so forth, we've been able to get it to the point noted there. I'd be happy to provide any details you'd like as I know that the other thread is quite populated at the moment by our efforts and might be hard to sift through.
  22. My system specs: GA-H55M-USB3 rev. 1.0 | i5 760 | Sapphire Radeon R7 240 Motherboard is NOT UEFI. Actually I've installed Yosemite 10.10.5 on a SATA HDD (NO SSD) without major issues. SATA controller is an Intel 5 series in AHCI mode. I'm trying to update to High Sierra 10.13.2, downloaded from AppStore. When I boot from USB pendrive (using Clover r4334, config.plist attached), and select macOS installation (installation files resides in Yosemite HDD), installation fails with those errors: HID: shim legacy 2 USB pendrive is inserted in a USB2.0 port. I've tried to insert it in all available USB ports but error is still present. Kexts used (all in EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other): AppleALC.kext (used in Yosemite to have working audio with ALC889) FakeSMC.kext GenericUSBXHCI.kext (for USB3.0, NEC/Renesas chip) Lilu.kext (dependency of AppleALC) RealtekRTL8111.kext (Ethernet) USBInjectAll.kext VoodooPS2Controller.kext (mouse) Downloaded from Rehabman bitbucket repositories, latest version where applicable or from author's repository. 23. Any suggestions? I have just upgraded my MacBook Pro: installed 8GB memory (4GBx2 is max RAM for this MacBook Pro) and a new 1TB internal hard drive. It took me a day to install Mac OS X on the new internal drive, restore the Time Machine backup and check things out. The 4GB RAM was adequate for my normal use, but 8GB is very nice to have, and I need it for a special QA project, which requires me to run Windows on this Mac. The new 1TB hard drive is just over half full now, and 7200 RPM with 16GB cache vs. 5400 RPM with 8GB cache seems peppier too. However, there may now be an intermittent problem. My Mac had not crashed in more than one year, and I often run it for a few weeks between rebooting. For now, I cannot trust the Mac, and I am saving my work every 5 or 10 minutes. Since installing the new hard drive and new DRAM, it has crashed twice in two days. One "crash" was just a hang. The other "crash" caused a very strange display on the external monitor. Rebooting took longer than usual, maybe 3 minutes vs. 1 minute, after each "crash." Here is the screen shot after crash #1 (hang): So, I ran the stand-alone (single user mode) memory test (memtest) overnight (5 passes takes about 10 hours with 8GB) and it did not report any errors. I have 12 more days to return the memory or exchange it at Fry's Electronics locally. If it crashes again within a few days I will take the new DRAM back and try another brand. My MacBook Pro (mid-2009, 15", ) is now running OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) and want to upgrade to Mavericks (10.9) as soon as the hardware is solid for at least a few days. Also planning to install VMWare and Windows 7 for a special project as soon as the hardware is stable. For now, I plan to open the case, re-seat the RAM and run MEMTEST every night in standalone (single-user) mode. Any other suggestions? How to troubleshoot this and find out what is causing rare, random, intermittent crashes? 24. as the title indicates, i'm having a lot of trouble getting high sierra working on my pc i created a 10.13 installer usb, booted into its installer through clover installed and even problemlessly transferred my files from my 10.12 install over to 10.13, but yet i can't boot into it in the attached image you can see where precisely it locks up (it might be important to note that DSMOS never arrives during the boot sequence (or at least the part of the boot sequence that actually happens before it does locks up)) one thing i find weird is the fact that my 10.12 install (which is on another partition of the same drive that 10.13 is installed to) still boots with functioning sound despite me having completely removed applealc.kext from my clover install my config.plist is here: https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1RjfaLZ9zqT-N12kZXbX26xvC0QzMSBSZ(putting it on google drive because this website apparently doesnt want me to upload config.plist files, god knows why) i'm running clover 4297 my specs: intel core i7 3770 gigabyte geforce gtx 760 16gb ram 256gb sandisk ssd 2tb seagate sshd 750gb western digital 1tb western digital i'm pretty much at my wit's end here so i'd be glad if anyone knew what the hell is going on
  25. My installation works but after a couple of reboots, it will display a spinning beach ball AFTER logging in. Note that it's able to boot up right up to the login screen. But the system will just hang with a spinning beach ball after typing the password. Anyone else encounter such a problem?
