  1. Nice, seeing High Sierra running on this old but capable system! It rocks with a new ASUS GT1030 Config: Gigabyte EP43-DS3L Core2Quad Q9300 6 GB DDR2 RAM Asus GT1030 2GB Sandisk SSD 128GB TP-Link AC1200 Wifi USB Inateck KT4006 USB 3.0 PCIe (No boot) SMBIOS: iMac14,1 Clover: 4297 A good deal of DSDT editing was necessary to get this machine to boot High Sierra but finally it works flawlessly, even sleep and wake! You NEED to have the DSDT put in place for installation because otherwise macOS doesn't recognize the SATA ports. There are a few important BIOS settings: SATA hast to be set to AHCI and "native" and HPET has to be run "64-bit", I'd recommend to disable IDE and the serial and parallel port. For the GT1030 nVidia Webdrivers are needed, have to boot with nv_disable=1 until you have them installed. You have to install Clover in legacy mode because this old fella does not support UEFI. Only downside: The so often recommended Inateck USB-card isn't recognized by BIOS, so you cannot boot from it. It works perfectly within macOS though, have the ac-Wifi connected to it. config.plist.zip DSDT.aml.zip

Powerful budget Hackintosh for the living room Components used: MSI B250I Pro Mini-ITX Pentium G4600 Arctic Freezer 33 semi passive CPU cooler ASUS Geforce GT1030 8 GB GSkill DDR4-2133 RAM Samsung 256GB PCIe SSD GMYLE Bluetooth USB Silverstone ITX Case PICO Mini ATX 120W My plan was to build a Hackintosh with the best price-performance-ratio to be used as media player in the living room hooked to the TV. For that use it should be silent, fanless at best. So I decided to go for the Pentium G4600 which offers nearly the same performance as the I3-7100 for a much lower price and the MSI B250I Pro Mini ITX board, the cheapest one with M.2 slots for PCIe and Wifi. The Arctic Freezer 33 is my favourite choice as CPU cooler and I’m using it for all my builds. The fan literally never spins up during usual daily usage. For graphics card the fanless GT1030 is the obvious choice as it delivers the best performance with the lowest possible power consumption. Speaking of power: As the Arctic Freezer is too huge for a standard ATX power supply to fit in an ITX case I go for a PICO Mini ATX adapter that allows up to 120 watts on 16 volts, so a common laptop power supply can be used and of course it runs noiseless as wished. Everything works like a real mac, there are no power management, sleep or wake issues. You can even use your Bluetooth keyboard or mouse to wake it and it will sleep well again. It is not necessary to disable USB power via DSDT. For this build I don’t even bother to compile one. This hasn’t happened for years J Of course the installation needs preparation because the Pentium CPU isn’t supported out of the box. You need to configure your UEFI right and get your config.plist for Clover in order before you can start, otherwise macOS will simply kernel panic. Telling it the other way: there is no post installation action required And for those who are planning to use the Intel HD630 instead of a dedicated graphics card: You can’t. It sounds promising at first to have a macOS supported Intel HD on this chip but it seems as if Intel has just branded it this way and in reality using a different architecture. The best you can achieve is to get into desktop by spoofing a Skylake ID but you won’t get hardware acceleration this way. *For this guide I assume that you already know how to prepare a macOS install drive, how to install Clover bootloader and configure it, mounting your EFI partition and so on. You know: the basic skills. If you don’t you’ll find beginners guides for these tasks on the forum.* *CREDITS: Go to all people involved in the hackintosh community. For this guide I searched and tested for days, finding all the bits needed to complete the installation. If you think one or two of the presented solutions here is based on one of your own unique ideas please feel free to tell me and I will add your name here at once of course. ACPI Change HDAS to HDEF Change HECI to IMEI Change SAT0 to SATA Change GFX0 to IGPU Fix Shutdown TRUE Devices Audio Inject 1 (if you use AppleALC) Kernel and Kext Patches FakeCPUID 0x0306A0 KernelXCPM True Apple RTC True Kernel to Patch Find b9a00100 000f32 Replace b9a00100 0031c0 to disable AVX (This is needed because the Pentium lacks AVX support. Without it apps like Safari and AppStore are likely to crash.) SmBIOS iMac18,2 Kexts and SSDT /EFI/CLOVER/ACPI/patched Toleda's SSDT-HDMI-NVIDIA-PEG0.aml Download at GitHub. (needed for HDMI/DVI audio with AppleALC (on non GT1030 cards) and fixes a wake up issues that could lead to black screen) /EFI/CLOVER/drivers64UEFI Remove any Osxaptiofix or Memoryfix installed by Clover and use OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000.efi instead. Solves the occasional “Does printf work?” completely. /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other FakeSMC.kext Lilu.kext FakePCIID.kext NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext Shiki.kext RealtekRTL8111.kext USBInjectAll.kext XHCI-200-series-injector.kext For audio use AppleALC.kext or VoodooHDA.kext (never both!) and AppleHDADisabler.kext Only VoodooHDA enables HDMI, DP or DVI audio on GT1030. Other cards may work with AppleALC (tested with GT710 and DVI audio works). Nvidia webdrivers Issues Don’t use the designated webdrivers for 10.13.3! They give you extremely poor OpenCL performance what leads to choppy video playback. Instead use NVDAWebPatcher to patch the webdrivers for 10.13.2 and install them instead. I’m not kidding the 10.13.3 drivers are unusable, this step is mandatory.
  3. What works? Everything! (including audio and sleep) Really? Second M.2 NVMe is shown as external drive (orange icon), maybe due to the fact, that Macs don’t have two M.2 slots as far as I know – but that is purely cosmetic *Update* YES, everything works. Just download the new updated package below, which contains config.plist (for 10.12.6), USB kext and basic DSDT with USB sleep capabilities only. Do NOT use the original DSDT provided by me or MalD0n in post #10 cause both are faulty, somehow they screw up SATA und PCIe devices. Components used: ASUS Prime B250M-C µATX-board Intel Core i5 7500 (Kaby Lake) with HD 630 ASUS Geforce GT 1030 Airport-compatible PCIe-Card for Wifi and Bluetooth (BCM943602CS) – works OOB 2 NVMe drives: Samsung P961 / Toshiba (Sandisk SSD for Installation, because unpatched Sierra doesn’t recognize NVMe-Drives until 10.12.5, there are workarounds, but I didn’t bother, just cloned system to NVMe after installation) I used Clover 4114 as boot loader. *UDATE 10.13* Updated for macOS High Sierra, look here. Please note, that for HS I swapped the GT1300 for a RX560 since there are no Pascal-drivers until this day. *UPDATE 10.12.6* No problems, works like a charm. You can change SMBIOS to iMac18,2 and delete FakeID for CPU from config.plist, it isn't needed anymore because of Kaby Lake support in 10.12.6. Webdrivers from 10.12.5 still work for GT 1030 if you patch them via Nvidia Web Driver Updater (download the webdrivers and use the patch to fake OS build "16G29"). *UPDATE USB* Since USBinjectall.kext 0.6.2 added iMac18,2 support, raise-port-patch via Clover is no longer needed. I added my modified kext where I deleted unused ports, so that every port is available within macOS. Config.plist: At least until 10.12.5 a fake CPU id is needed to make the Kaby Lake-CPU appear as Skylake. The following code has to added to config.plist to your install drive (and of course to the working system drive afterwards) <key>KernelAndKextPatches</key> <dict><key>FakeCPUID</key> <string>0x0506e3</string> </dict> If you want to use the CPU graphics you have to add some more code: <key>FakeID</key> <dict> <key>IntelGFX</key> <string>0x19168086</string> …<key>Graphics</key> <dict> <key>ig-platform-id</key> <string>0x19160000</string> … I would recommend a dedicated graphics card, because Intel-GPU is often a mess, glitches from time to time and sleep or wake is never going to work properly. Laptop users have to deal with this, desktop owners should not waste time on CPU graphics if they don’t have to. Only do this for budget reasons or because you’re building a Mini-ITX-system or Mini-PC that has no space for a dedicated graphics card. I used a GT 1030 graphics card (install latest webdrivers from nVidia for full acceleration). For SMBIOS use iMac14,2. That will give you a working display for the Geforce. iMac 17,1 works for me with the HD 630, but gives black screen on Geforce. Update: Could successfully boot into working system with iMac17,1 definition, no screen issues. Seems that iMac14,2 only works better before nVidia drivers installation. Ok, just once, now black screen again, back to 14,2 Update2: iMac18,2 works in 10.12.6 Add Raise-Ports-Patch for USB: *Better use USBinjectall.kext I added below* <key>KextsToPatch</key> <array><dict> <key>Comment</key> <string>change 15 port limit to 26 in XHCI kext (100-Series-10.12)</string> <key>Disabled</key> <false/> <key>Find</key> <data> g710////EA== </data> <key>Name</key> <string>AppleUSBXHCIPCI</string> <key>Replace</key> <data> g710////Gw== </data> </dict> </array> Pike R. Alpha’s patches for NVMe work great. To make it easy: The patches integrated in the newest CloverConfigurator will work for 10.12.5. Hopefully with 10.12.6 this will end. 10.13 beta doesn’t need them anymore. Kexts: What to put in your EFI partition’s kext folder? Of course FakeSMC.kext… For the CPU to work in Sierra (at least until 10.12.5) add FakePCIID.kext and Lilu.kext. For USB to work properly use USBInjectALL.kext plus XHCI 200 injector kext. You will have a few working ports if you leave the kext untouched, to make it perfect edit the info.plist inside USB inject kext. All you have to do is to delete ports higher than HS10 and SS10 HS07,08 and 09 in <key>8086_a2af</key>. For audio use Voodoo HDA (Version 2.9.0d10 enables onboard audio and HDMI audio on Intel and Geforce) and AppleHDADisabler.kext. For i219 ethernet use IntelMausiEthernet.kext. Intel HD630 needs FakePCIID_Intel_HD-Graphics.kext and IntelGraphicsFixup.kext as well (not needed for Geforce). DSDT and SSDT for speedstep and sleep: Of course no working hackintosh without the joy of DSDT editing Rehabman offers a great repository for patches that will put your Hackintosh to sleep and Piker Alphas ssdtPRGGen will give you working power management. For reference I’ve added my DSDT and SSDT to download. Be careful: These will only work properly for you if you have the exact same configuration!
