  1. Overview On OS X/Mac OS X, some people may suffer from the issue that the external disk was not ejected properly after sleep. This problem dates back to the period of the coming of Mavericks, even on a real Mac! Overview of the tools/solutions AFAIK, there's two solutions to fix this problem till now: Install Jettison from Mac App Store. Use sleepwatcher to unmount the external devices before system go to sleep. But for me, install Jettison is not free of charge, and this application will place icon on the right corner of the statue bar once get installed, which is not a good solution from my point of view. The latter one is open source and free of charge, which means I can know clearly what this application/daemon has done and add as many functions I want to it. With the help of sleepwatcher, there's various script to unmount/mount disk upon sleep, but none of it is so easy to read and some require sleep time delay settings, that's really strange! That's the reason why I started to create my "own" version of script to fix this issue. I optimized the whole progress as well as the installation progress. No more wake/sleep delay time settings! No more complicated command line, no more wake script, just one sleep script for unmount the external devices, once you resume from sleep, all the external devices will mount by system spontaneously. After following this guide step-by-step, no more "Disk not ejected properly" error will occur upon sleep. Feel free to change whatever you want if you do not satisfy with my script: https://github.com/syscl/Fix-usb-sleep How to use? Download the latest fixUSB.sh by entering the following command in a terminal window: git clone https://github.com/syscl/Fix-usb-sleep Note: If it was the first you execute command "git", please install it by the tips from OS X online(Click "Install"), and then run the above command line again. This will download the fixUSB.sh to your current folder (./) and the next step is to change the permissions of the file(add +x) so that it can be run: chmod +x ~/Fix-usb-sleep/fixUSB.sh Run the fixUSB.sh in a terminal window by: cd ./Fix-usb-sleep ./fixusb.sh If all this procedures have done correctly, you will see the following message in the terminal window Hope you all enjoy this script and all feedbacks are welcome! Post issue on https://github.com/syscl/Fix-usb-sleep Credit: Bernhard Baehr (bernhard.baehr@gmx.de): without his great sleepwatcher, this project/script will not be created.
  2. I recently installed High Sierra on my Ryzen system, just to find out how crappy the USB situation really is on AMD systems. The only choice is basically most of your ports flat out not working or GenericUSBXHCI crashing every time you pull out a thumbdrive. So after some trial and error here are my findings. The USB ports controlled by the XHCI controller on the SoC worked fine, but the ones attached to the chipset XHCI controller didn't. That's when I looked at the log and saw these lines: PTXH@00000000: AppleUSBXHCIPCI::createPorts: port 1 unsupported protocol USB 03.10 PTXH@00000000: AppleUSBXHCIPCI::createPorts: failed to allocate port 1 It turns out that for some reason the AppleXHCIPCI driver doesn't support the first two ports on the B350 chipset (made by ASMedia) USB controller. And after the driver fails to allocate port 1 it just stops and doesn't even look at the rest of the ports. So I first tried commenting out the first two ports from the DSDT and that worked and made all the other ports show app in the IOService tree. Than I quickly tested all the USB ports and it turns out that the 2 problematic ports aren't even wired to anything. But instead of editing the DSDT I wanted a cleaner solution, because I don't want to re-edit my DSDT every time I update the BIOS or change some BIOS settings. So here is my small SSDT that disables the stock PTXH device and adds a new device XHCI, that has all the ports needed for my board (ASUS PRIME B350-PLUS). DefinitionBlock ("SSDT-PRIME-B350-PLUS.aml", "SSDT", 1, "APPLE", "tinySSDT", 0x00000006) { External (\_SB_.PCI0.GPP2, DeviceObj) External (\_SB_.PCI0.GPP2.PTXH, DeviceObj) Scope (\_SB_.PCI0.GPP2.PTXH) { Name (_STA, Zero) } Scope (\_SB_.PCI0.GPP2) { Device (XHCI) { Name (_ADR, Zero) Device (RHUB) { Name (_ADR, Zero) // USB3.1 back panel Device (PRT1) { Name (_ADR, 0x5) Name (_UPC, Package (0x04) { 0xFF, 0x03, Zero, Zero }) } Device (PRT2) { Name (_ADR, 0x6) Name (_UPC, Package (0x04) { 0xFF, 0x03, Zero, Zero }) } // USB3.0 front panel Device (PRT3) { Name (_ADR, 0x7) Name (_UPC, Package (0x04) { 0xFF, 0x03, Zero, Zero }) } Device (PRT4) { Name (_ADR, 0x8) Name (_UPC, Package (0x04) { 0xFF, 0x03, Zero, Zero }) } // USB2.0 Device (PRT5) { Name (_ADR, 0x9) Name (_UPC, Package (0x04) { 0xFF, Zero, Zero, Zero }) } Device (PRT6) { Name (_ADR, 0xa) Name (_UPC, Package (0x04) { 0xFF, Zero, Zero, Zero }) } Device (PRT7) { Name (_ADR, 0xb) Name (_UPC, Package (0x04) { 0xFF, Zero, Zero, Zero }) } Device (PRT8) { Name (_ADR, 0xc) Name (_UPC, Package (0x04) { 0xFF, Zero, Zero, Zero }) } Device (PRT9) { Name (_ADR, 0xd) Name (_UPC, Package (0x04) { 0xFF, Zero, Zero, Zero }) } Device (PRTA) { Name (_ADR, 0xe) Name (_UPC, Package (0x04) { 0xFF, Zero, Zero, Zero }) } } } } } Please note that this is just an example and it most likely needs to be changed for your board.
  3. BEFORE TRYING THIS, DO THE OBVIOUS SOLUTION! REPLACE YOUR OPTIOFIX EFI FILE WITH VERSION 2, OR WITH VERSION 1. ONLY PROCEED IF DOING THIS DOES NOT WORK. Alright, so my first attempt at helping people that isn’t in a private discord. Hope this goes well. No one has posted this as a direct solution to someone asking for help with this error, so I thought I’d be the one to share it.

I encountered this problem when I rebooted after making some minor changes and discovered I couldn’t boot back into the disk. All over the web, people keep suggesting clover-side tweaks and replacing kexts, and while they may solve the problem for some, absolutely nothing was working for me (and a few others), even when booting with no kernel cache at all. No boot flags worked, no .efi files would solve it.

Holding spacebar in clover, no change. So, the solution ended up being system side, and not clover related. You needed to delete your prelinked kernel from the HDD and rebuild it.

To do this, you just have to be able to get to your recovery drive or use an install USB that’ll give you access to the disk. Clover got me into my recovery drive just fine, another hint that it wasn’t related to clover - but regardless, whatever works for you. After you’re in a terminal, type the following commands.

Df -h This will list all of your volumes, make sure you’re targeting your installation drive.

If your volume has a space in the name, such as "Mac OS HS", you'll need to format it as such: "Mac\ OS\ HS" - This is simply how the command line associates spaces. touch /Volumes/[NAME HERE]/System/Library/Extensions && kextcache -u /Volumes/[NAME HERE]

In my case, I replaced [NAME HERE] with my installation drive - "macOS\ 10.13". Chances are, this command will give you the error "Child process [directory] has exited due to signal 10" The line immediately after that will give you another bit of extremely important information that you need to take note of. "Error 107 rebuilding /System/Library/PrelinkedKernels/prelinkedkernel" That directory is what we're going to be targeting to fix our system. So, time to nuke it. rm -rf [location to /prelinkedkernel/prelinkedkernel] MAKE SURE YOU DOUBLE CHECK IT IS EXACTLY WHAT WAS OUTPUT WHEN YOU TRIED THE COMMAND ABOVE.

IMPORTANT: YOU MAY RECEIVE A READ ONLY ERROR! DO NOT PANIC. I've done this on multiple machines and it really is hit or miss whether or not this will appear. Regardless, the solution is simple. The following code tag only applies to if you encounter this issue. Fsck mount -uw / RE-ENTER THE FOLLOWING COMMAND! You need a more specific location now. rm -rf /Volumes/[NAME]/System/Library/PrelinkedKernels/prelinkedkernel touch /Volumes/[NAME]/System/Library/Extensions && kextcache -u /Volumes/[Name] Now you should be receiving "/Volumes/[NAME] locked; waiting for lock." This is a good thing. Wait a few seconds, you'll receive "Lock acquired; proceeding." After that, you'll be back at -bash-3.2#, and it will appear as if nothing happened. Again, this is expected. For people who didn't have to use the Fsck command, simply type the following and receive the usual "Waiting for lock; Lock received" response. touch /Volumes/[NAMEHERE]/System/Library/Extensions && kextcache -u /Volumes/[NAME HERE] Now, use your up arrow on the keyboard to re-enter this command. If nothing happens, you're golden. If it detects kexts with invalid signatures, that's still okay - but for future reference, don't go the ##### approach/philosophy of installing kexts to your system drive. Take this as a warning. Go ahead and reboot, and start your installation just like normal. You'll now get past the 0x1 error. Congratulations! If you get hung up anywhere, go back to clover and add “-f” to the boot flags, then boot again. You should make it back to your desktop with no damage whatsoever.

Like nothing ever happened! Now, as for what causes this, I honestly have no idea. All I know is when you have a working system, make some kind of modication/tweak/installation that HS doesn't agree with, you can possibly get this error on some systems. It's rare, but exists, and unfortunately this is the only way I've been able to get past it. It's not too much work, so don't be too intimidated. You'll have your system back in no time. If you'd like some personalized 1-on-1 support, read my signature and contact me that way. I'm more than happy to help, or at the very least take some time out of my day to analyze your issue and give my thoughts. Thanks for reading my first guide, I'm hoping to publish some more fixes to make High Sierra as painless as possible for every user.
  4. If you have a working Brightness Slider and you might be using Brightness slider or manual hotkeys to control brightness then this guide may help you to use your Native hotkeys of laptop. (All the Credits goes to @RehabMan For OS-X-ACPI-Debug Kext and DSDT Patches.) This step assumes that you are using RehabMan's VoodooPS2Controller Install the kext: https://github.com/RehabMan/OS-X-ACPI-Debug Open MaciASL and click on patch.(Add rehab man repo) Apply "Add DSDT Debug Methods" and "Instrument EC Queries" that are under Brightness Fix. Save the DSDT and restart Look in Syslog as you press the key corresponding to brightness to determine which _QXX methods handle the keys Then patch DSDT: into method label _Q1D replace_content begin // Brightness Down\n Notify(\_SB.PCI0.LPCB.PS2M, 0x0205)\n Notify(\_SB.PCI0.LPCB.PS2M, 0x0285)\n end; into method label _Q1C replace_content begin // Brightness Up\n Notify(\_SB.PCI0.LPCB.PS2M, 0x0206)\n Notify(\_SB.PCI0.LPCB.PS2M, 0x0286)\n end; Change the variable _Q1D/_Q1C as per the log. 7. Try compiling and check if it generates errors 8. If it does, then change the PS2M to PS2X according to the one found in your DSDT 9. Save and place the compiled DSDT. 10. Now you should see that you have your corresponding keys to change your brightness FOR more detail and Queries,Check Out original Post of @RehabMan Here; http://www.insanelym...18#entry1997112 Get Latest Version of OS-X-ACPI-Debug kext here: https://bitbucket.org/RehabMan/os-x-acpi-debug/downloads
  5. Hi guys, I am creating this topic to discuss an idea I had about a way to force the Mac OS installer to not install using apfs. So we know that apfs does not runs well on drives not made by apple because it's designed to run on apple firmware, so error correcting features will not work and this will cause data corruption and data lose over the long period of time, so some people will like more to not use apfs and avoid all that problems, but apple has integrated an ssd detection mechanism that will force to upgrade to apfs if an ssd is detected, so my idea is to create a kext that is loaded before the system initializes sata devices and then forces the system to detect all sata and nvme devices as hard drives, I think that is possible, but I do not know iokit so much well to do it, so I am creating this thread, to ask if it's possible to create something like that using io kit and other system libraries to create a kext the could work with clover kext injection and force the system to see all the ssd as hard drives, and also other idea for the kext is that it will enable itself to run only when you are booting into a Mac OS installer, maybe that could be also done using a clover kext to patch string directly on the sata family kext, so what do you think about my idea? is there someone that could help me to create the kext or a clover patch? Thank you for checking out my thread, I hope that we will find a solution soon PS: I know that there re things like scripts and commands to install without apfs, but my aim is to create a method that lets the users to tone perform any special task inside the Mac OS installer
  6. After weeks of digging, I've found a partial solution for the USB problem of my hack. No guide I've found worked so far, injectors or fake kexts made the problem even bigger in every case. So I concentrated on getting the DSDT as correct as possible. My personal DSDT does only apply to a few people out there I know, but may be used as a helpful reference. For example I renamed XHC to XHC1 (so that OS X can find it) removed _PWR arguments from EHCI, XHC1 and HDEF to make sleep working (resulted in a new wake-problem ). What is working with the attached DSDT and what not : Ports detected: 2 of 2 USB 3 on the front, 2 of 4 USB rear ports, 2 of 2 USB 2 rear ports USB 2 devices not recognized when plugged into USB 3 ports Sleep is working, however, wake up works only when power button is pressed. I'm using iMac14,2 SMBIOS for now. Still looking for alternatives that fit my pc better. Does anybody has any advice or a possible DSDT fix regarding the wake / sleep problem? Thanks in advance for all the effort !!! DSDT.aml.zip
  7. Hey all, I recently just finished my first ever Hackintosh build and am extremely happy with it apart from one major issue.. The specs: Intel Core Skylake Processor i5-6500 Gigabyte H170N-WI-FI Motherboard Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 16 GB Kit (8 GB x 2) DDR4 2400 Corsair 550W CS550M Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB Broadcom BCM94352Z DW1560 Wireless-AC 867M WiFi Bluetooth 4.0 NGFF M.2 Card (being shipped) OSX El Capitan (not sierra) NOTE: I'm using integrated GFX as I don't want to spend anymore just yet on a GPU but maybe in the near future! I followed ammulder's guide on installing El Capitan and everything is working apart from my Display Ports. I have a HDMI plugged in (top HDMI port on mobo) and works fine it's just when I have my other monitor hooked up using either the other HDMI provided or DVI port I get a complete blank display and my other monitor is still working as normal. I tried other guides, few different tweaks and even hotplugging but that doesn't seem to work. I also tried taking the HDMI out of the working port and inserting it into another HDMI or DVI and that doesn't seem to work either. Please help me as I would highly appreciate it and would love to be using this amazing build with 2 monitors instead of 1. Regards, Emphasising

  9. IMPORTANT: CAUSED BY NEW APPLE VERIFICATION-STEPS, you need MLB (BoardSerialNumber) and ROM from a real Mac. The use of real mac MLB/ROM is a temporary solution. I always prefer to use generated IDs, but actually there is no way around. Note: This guide is for Clover users only. Please do not ask questions related to Chameleon or other Bootloaders. Please follow all steps, or at least read them all. You will probably need to call the Apple support to activate iMessage, but don’t worry, I will explain you what you need to do. Also try to change your IDs as less as possible, this is also why I advise you to disconnect temporary from internet after step 3. Never share your ID's and never believe or use ID's found on the internet! Requirements: Clover MLB & ROM from real Mac Clover Configurator ( http://www.hackintoshosx.com/files/file/49-clover-configurator/ ) iMessageDebug ( http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/files/file/278-imessage-debug/ ) 1 Step You need to mount you EFI partition, to do so, type following command in terminal (Applications>Utilities>Terminal) diskutil list The output should look like this: Look for your System HardDrive or SSD (in my case HackintoshSSD 10) and copy your EFI partition IDENTIFIER (in my case disk1s1) Now type following command: diskutil mount YOUR_IDENTIFIER in my case this would be: diskutil mount disk1s1 Now you should see EFI Drive in Finder. 2 Step Open the Clover Configurator Application, you should see following screen: Select following config file: EFI > EFI > CLOVER > config.plist (Highlighted in blue). Now move to the SMBIOS Section (left menu). Click on the magic wand icon and select appropriate bios for your system. If you are not sure which one, check your About this Mac>System Reports and check your Model Identifier (in this example iMac (13,2) ). Click several times on the little shake buttons to generate a Unique Serial for you Hackintosh. (Note: This is only an example, don’t use the serials shown in the image!) Now you need to check, if your Serial is a generic one and not from a real mac. To do this: go to https://selfsolve.apple.com and enter you generated serial. If you don’t get an error Message, just randomise the serial again with the 2 little shake buttons. Repeat this until you get an error message on the site. Click on “OK” to save you SMBIOS. 3 Step You should now have a screen similar to this one. Now you need to populate those 2 RED indicated fields. Open again Terminal and enter: uuidgen This will output something like this: C5FAA18D-AA58-44E4-ABBF-C31885429CD7 Repeat this 3-4 times to be sure to get an unique one. Copy it and paste it into SmUUID. The second file that needs to be populated, is the board ID. For this, just copy your Serial and Enter some random letters and numbers, that you get a length of 17 digits! In my example this would be: C02LHIA7DNMP7E8G4 4 Step Go to the RT Variables Section, enter the MLB (BoardSerialNumber) & ROM value from a real mac and click Calculate. Do not use values found on the Internet! Only use values from your own mac and never ever share them! To learn more about MLB check out this Thread by holyfield. To find those Values on a real mac, simply run iMessage Debug or for older macs (OS X Lion / Snow Leopard) check out here (by Fusion71au). The real mac does not need the be the same model as your SmBios, you can use the ROM/MLB form a MacBookPro with MacPro SmBios on you hack. You can also still use both Macs on the same times on iMessage. Go System Parameters Section on Clover Configurator and make sure, that those are empty! Now save the file (cmd + s). Disconnect your computer form Internet and Reboot. Do this several times and always check with iMessageDebug (double click on the file), that all IDs are set and stay the same. If it is so, you can reconnect to your network. If not, retry steps 1-4. You will now be prompted to re-login to iCloud and iMessage. Normally you should not get any error or code from iMessage if you use a valid ROM/MLB combination. If you get an Code and you are asked to call apple, you are using some invalid ID combination, usually related by ROM/MLB. I would not recommend you to call Apple, as you are not using a mac, even if some other tutorials tell you that. Enjoy fully functional iMessage! Hope it helped

    DSDT help

Hey guys, I recently got Mavericks 10.9.5 up and running again, but I'm having issues with my system. I have no USB 2 (USB3 works, oddly), no audio, and wacky GPU issues (only 1 or 2 of my monitors will work out of 3). I have no idea what to do now, I'm out of my depth. Can someone please take a look at my extracted DSDT and my IOReg please, and help me get it edited? Here are my specs: Motherboard: Asus Rampage IV Extreme (X79, LGA2011 socket) GPUs: 2x EVGA GTX 780s RAM: 64GB G.Skill Ripjaws @1333MHz CPU: Intel Core i7 4960x (Ivy Bridge E) Any details needed? PM me. I am also using a MacPro6,1 SMBIOS, just for the record. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. The forum won't allow me to upload my IOReg and DSDT so they are posted at the links below: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bi3f2lj8tnwsed5/Logan%E2%80%99s%20Mac%20Pro.ioreg?dl=0 (IOReg) https://www.dropbox.com/s/i5j0y755jbjr4th/System%20DSDT.aml?dl=0 (extracted DSDT that needs editing)

  12. Hey guys, This is my first topic on this forum, but I've been familiar with the mackintosh community for 3 years, and am not afraid to get my hands dirty. With that said, to the problem. I am having trouble signing into iMessage. And believe me I don't like posting stupid, duplicate topics without a reason to do so. I've read every damn topic on the net I could find, tried it, and all of those failed. It always tells me, "Your Apple ID "[My Mail ID]" can't be used to set up iMessage at this time". But, my father bought an iPhone 5s a couple of weeks ago, and I used it for a week. My iMessage was signed in on the phone. And around that time, I upgraded to Mavericks. I gave my father the iPhone back 3 days ago, and that's when it started giving me this stupid message. So, after browsing a bit, I heard about NVRam and Clover, and saw that my PC didn't have a UUID. So, I got the necessary tools and applied a UUID to my machine. Yet it didn't work. Also tried a full restore, booting from Chameleon, Chimera, and Clover. Nothing works. The only thing that works is signing into my father's iPhone. And again, logging out of that gives me the message. Yes, I've checked for nvram.[uuid].plist, and everything but the IOPower variables are valid. MLB and ROM are in place. Find MyMac works. I've also created a recovery partition. I would also have tried gdb-ing iMessage, but I'm terrible at that. I, currently, am on 10.9.1(It didn't work on 10.9 also). Also, I didn't use Messages when I used 10.8. Any suggestions would be warmly welcome.

  14. Hello, Recently I finally complete the installation of ML on my laptop PB TK85. After struggling a bit with the graphics card, i managed to make it fully functional. The wireless ,ethernet and sound cards are ok either. However there is one issue with the USB that i cannot solve. The 3 USB ports sometimes work, other don't . I have to reboot the PC a few times to make it work. My laptop have am integrated web cam and card reader and I saw that when this peripherals are loaded, the USB ports not and vice-versa. Because I need more the USB ports I don't mind uninstall the kexts responsible for the camera and card reader, the problem is i don't know specifically which they are. So if anyone every experienced the same situation can point me in the right direction to solve the issue? Thanks in advance

  18. Greetings: Running an Acer Aspire E5-771-74E7 laptop. Intel Core i7 5th gen with Intel HD5500. Running Clover MBR/GPT as a MacBookAir6,2. Attempting Capitan beta 8. I have 4 ports: 2xUSB2 and 2xUSB3. On Yosemite 10.10.5, both USB2 and USB3 worked vanilla. I have everything working on Capitan beta 8 except USB. I get no power to any device when they are plugged in. My main reason for moving to Capitan is because of the random HD5500 freezes (FakeSMC rollback didn't work). I have read and tried to follow the main guide thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/306777-guide-usb-fix-el-capitan-1011/ From reading through the thread, which is somewhat lengthy now, the general idea is to match up the port numbers based on what the DSDT is presenting. Then there is the issue of port restrictions. Questions: [1] I see suggestions for both having and not having port restrictions. Clover In MacBookAir6,2 , there are no port restrictions. Is it "in some cases" that port restrictions are required? I'm kinda confused here. [2] The USB2 port names in my DSDT and AppleUSBEHCIPCI match up (EHC1). Since there are no restrictions, do I still need to change them in the DSDT to something else? [3] For USB3, I did try changing my DSDT XHC entries to XHC1 but that did not help. Is there something else I need to do? [4] In my DSDT, my port numbers are listed as follows: Do these seem correct? I tried adding the entries manually to the kext without success. I've attached informational files and screenshots for anyone who can lend a hand. Extensions renamed to avoid blocked uploads. Thanks! rytz’s MacBook Pro.ioreg.txt DSDT.dsl.txt config.plist.txt

    Mavericks quase bomm

  20. So I have installed mac OS X with clover and I have noticed when booting into mac OS X the boot process bar reaches around 1/4 of the way then the monitor flashes on and off a few times and then I'm at the desktop. No full boot and no pretty transition to desktop. I'm guessing this happens because when OS X reaches the 2nd boot stage. The graphics card gets enabled fully. Is there a way to fix this? is there a way to enable the graphics card before booting into OS X? I found this post here but I'm not sure how to install this fix let alone if it will work.

    [Problem] Lenovo x121e Battery

Hello, I've got installed El Capitan on my Lenovo x121e. It's working, but not perfectly. I have the following problems: - there is no battery status available EDIT: now working thanks to artur_pt - there are some artifacts from the Intel HD 3000 EDIT: fixed with slide=0 TODO - the trackpad buttons aren't working (show no reaction in El Capitan) - HDMI audio, VGA output and normal audio aren't working - after sleep mouse touchpad not working Is there a way to get at least the battery status working? The other things aren't really important (but nice to have). System Information: -Intel Core i3-2357M @ 1.3GHz -8 GB DDR3 RAM -Intel HD Graphics 3000 -120GB SSD I've also added the unchanged DSDT to this post. Maybe anyone can help me. Thanks Jonas System DSDT.aml.zip
  22. Spotlight, introduced by Apple with OS X 10.4 Tiger, is a powerful system tool that allows for fast and easy searches of your entire Mac and any attached drives. For single users on secure Macs, it’s one of the best ways to find your files, app data, and even to launch applications. But if you share your Mac with others, or frequently use it in a public place, you may wish to temper Spotlight’s reach. Here are three ways to prevent Spotlight from indexing items on your Mac. Exclude Items Using Spotlight’s PreferencesInstead of turning the whole thing off, you can simply exclude certain drives or folders from Spotlight by using its Preferences. Head to System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy. Here you can choose which drives or folders to exclude from Spotlight’s index (note that yours may be empty if you only have a single drive in your Mac). Adding a file or folder to this list will exclude it and its contents from Spotlight, meaning that they won’t appear during a Spotlight or Finder search. To add items, you can either click the plus icon and navigate to the drive or folder you want to exclude, or you can simply drag and drop drives and folders into the list. To remove items from the list, and thus make them searchable by Spotlight once again, select the item and press the minus icon at the bottom-left side of the list. This is an easy way to manage Spotlight’s reach, but it includes one critical flaw: anyone with access to your user account can simply head to Spotlight’s Preferences and see exactly what you’ve chosen to hide. It’s like a treasure map to your private files and secrets. Thankfully, there’s still one final option.
  23. After some research (took me a year ) I think I finally found a solution to get a more smoother interface. I don't know if this also fixes "Channel Timeout" errors, more testing is needed. Some history: After reading several topics/post about power-states that are used on GeForce-cards, I found out that the Fermi series only has 3 P-states instead of 4 (or more). P-states can control clockings on a GPU down or up when needed. (Down when more 'power' is needed/Up when being more idle) You can check your clocks by running the tool nvidia Inspector in Windows My EVGA GeForce 450 GTS (1GB) has the following clock-speeds: State 3 (lowest energy use) CPU Clock: 50Mhz CPU Memory: 324Mhz State 2 (mid. energy use) CPU Clock: 405Mhz CPU Memory: 324Mhz State 1 (high. energy use) CPU Clock: 783Mhz CPU Memory: 1.80Mhz After looking in Windows 7 what state the nVidia card runs on, I found out that this is usually state 3. In OS X however I could only get smooth animations if the GPU was running in state 2. My theory is that OS X simple needs more 'power' because it is running on OpenGL and their are way more animations (enabled) than on Windows. I also checked how my card was running on Linux (KDE). When using their interface I also find out my card was more in state 2 than in state 1. Editing AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext: To set the correct clock-speeds based on load, editing AGPM.kext was needed since they are undefined for my GPU. After searching through some post, I found out that some users were using all the 4 'load-fields', when my Fermi-card only has 3. Also some users simple tried to disable the last two, by setting really high values. This should prevent the CPU hitting state 3. Some users claim that state 3 is causing the freezes and the slow interface. My theory is that the GPU doesn't switch to state 2 when needed. It is either taking to much time for the GPU to reach state 2 or it would simply mean that the GPU doesn't like being on state 2 all the time for some reason. To make a long story short: I wanted to have a smooth interface, but also don't wanted the GPU to be fully loaded all the time (causing me a high energy bill). At the moment I'm using iMac12,2 as model. This because my i5-2400 seems to be inside this model. By setting this model, it also loaded the AGPM.kext. These are the values I have chose for my GPU (device id 0dc4): <key>Vendor10deDevice0dc4</key> <dict> <key>BoostPState</key> <array> <integer>0</integer> <integer>1</integer> <integer>2</integer> </array> <key>BoostTime</key> <array> <integer>2</integer> <integer>2</integer> <integer>2</integer> </array> <key>Heuristic</key> <dict> <key>ID</key> <integer>0</integer> <key>IdleInterval</key> <integer>200</integer> <key>SensorOption</key> <integer>1</integer> <key>TargetCount</key> <integer>1</integer> <key>Threshold_High</key> <array> <integer>70</integer> <integer>87</integer> <integer>100</integer> </array> <key>Threshold_Low</key> <array> <integer>0</integer> <integer>60</integer> <integer>92</integer> </array> </dict> <key>LogControl</key> <integer>0</integer> <key>control-id</key> <integer>17</integer> </dict> As you can see (or don't) I have simply removed the last row (aka row 3). My GPU is clocking as it should be and I can enjoy movies again. Also the sound from the GPU fan seems to be lower as it normally would, since this is also controlled by the GPU-clock. Setting details: I have set the IdleInterval from 250 to 100. It seems that setting this as 250 it takes to long for the GPU to switch to a higher or lower state. My theory is that the 250 value is set for the GFX0 (aka the nVidia/ATI-GPU) because it 'only' needs to render a game/high-use application. When the 100 IdleInterval of the Intel GPU, is needed because more/faster switching is needed for 'normal' use. The BoostPState and the BoostTime simple defined what state to be used when an application needs more 'power'. The SensorOption should need to be set to read-out the GPU-status. The TargetCount should be the state were the GPU should focus on. At least I think so, please let me know if you have more/better information. Testing: I would like to see some (test) results from Fermi-card users. That's why I posted this as new topic. But please know that doing this is at your own risk! As 'proof' please check the following pictures: Idle (4% idle or less): Browsing/doing stuff: (more than 4% load) Benchmarking: (more than 45% load) AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext.zip

    Brightness Patch

My hackintosh is currently running 10.6.8 on an HP 4530s, and I experience an issue where I can't fine tune the screen brightness after I first turn it on. In order to control screen brightness properly I need to sleep the display first, then wake it back on, and finally I can fine tune the brightness. I grew tired of needing to do that everytime I booted so I decided to find a work-around. Once I figured out a reliable method I went ahead and packaged it up for anyone who might also benefit from it! In no way do I guarantee this will work for everyone, but give it a shot if you have the brightness bug. The patch makes no permanent changes and does not require elevated access to install. It's all local to the user and does not make any system changes. It has a provided uninstaller just in case things go awry! The README in the .zip contains all information about the files that will be installed and what they do. The patch is a collective of two open source applications to control the screen and brightness via command line, and some bash scripting by me. It requires the Terminal to install for now... I don't know a thing about making a GUI Installer but if anyone can provide any tips, I would be greatful! Download the zip, use Terminal to install by navigating to the file and typing "./install.sh", then log out or reboot to enable the patch. - Adam brightness_fix.zip
