  1. Hi. A lot of time has passed since I last posted... I bought an early 2011 13'' MacBook Pro and I absolutely love it! And I bought an iPhone 4, too. But now I want a new toy! I'd like a really really really cheap Hackintosh to mess with. The main use would be torrenting, remuxing and reencoding videos (MKVTools, Subler, Handbrake). I want it to be small and quiet. I want a machine that I can leave to convert a video while I sleep, for example. I don't want lights, noise, anything. I want it to pretend that it's turned off. I want it to blend in with my router... I have a furniture that has my TV on it, and my router next to it. I was thinking Mac Mini form factor, so it can sit next to my TV (opposite place of the router). I don't want to buy a Mac Mini because I already have a Mac, I just want a toy. Maybe it's too much trouble, or perhaps not even possible, but can I use a Mac Mini case to build such machine? If not, what case do I use? I want it to perfectly support Mountain Lion when it is released (I'll buy it for my Mac the day it gets out) and finally, I want it to be like $300 dollars, or even less. Is this possible, or am I asking WAAAAAY to much here? If it is possible, can you provide me with build examples please? P.S. Here's my furniture: I'll connect the Hackintosh to my TV via HDMI, so I can simply turn on the TV when I need it. Thank you in advance.

    "Mac Mini"

Wrong section I guess. Rebuilt the topic here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/283869-mac-mini-mac-pro/

  4. Hey guys! From what I've seen, I posted on the wrong forum. Now I think it's on the right one. So, here I was searching around the forum trying to find a "copy" of a mac mini (not the one that got out today, the last one) and didn't really find it. The idea is to build a pc hackintosh that would go cheaper than a mac mini with kind of the same power. Interesting power to run Adobe software like Photoshop (of course that i'm not talking about working with 50gb images). No games, just creative and data process work. What would I need to build such a thing? What about buying a working Powermac G5, selling the insides and buy new pc stuff to do a hackintosh?
  5. Hi I can't find anywhere list of cpu supported by ML so I'm asking here. Just as in the title. What is the best and cheapest cpu for ML? I found Intel Core i3-2100, but maybe you have something cheaper. greatings
  6. I'm pretty new here but I have limited experience with OSx86 projects in the past (10.4, 10.5). My mom's Mac Mini Core 2 Duo system died and I'm looking at a replacement. I'd buy a Mac Mini but it's easily twice the price and expansions are almost impossible on the new system. I'd like to build the following system: Be quiet! SFX Power BN133 (300W SFX-size PSU) SilverStone Fortress FT03 Mini (Mini-ITX case) 4GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600MHz (1 stick of RAM) Intel Celeron G530 Dual-Core 2.4GHz (Socket 1155) ASRock H61M-ITX (Socket 1155, DDR3, PCI-E 16x) I still have an SSD and a slot-in DVD drive to use in this system from the dead Mac Mini. Heatsink will be boxed for now. The onboard GPU (Intel 3000 HD) will be used. The motivation for these components: - The case is very nice and mom approves. It also has support for more harddisks, a large GPU (should it ever be needed) and it's pretty cool & quiet. - I choose 4GB 1600MHz RAM because it's the most popular choice and price-wise it makes no difference. I know 1333MHz is used by default with this hardware. - The G530 CPU is plenty for the limited use mom will need and if needed I'll be able to even put in a Core i7, all hardware supports it. What I've found is that Mountain Lion has about the same hardware support as Lion and this all should have "full" support. Is this correct ? I'd like to use the least amount, if possible none at all, patches to maximize future compatibility.
  7. Basically I need some help. What would you reccomend, what do you think is the best cheap laptop to hackintosh? The end goal is running 10.6.8 - 10.7 with Logic Pro 9 as the main application running, wifi and everything else is less important to me. Thanks.
  8. Hi, I'm Milhooz from France. I'm a Mac user for at least 17 years, I play games a lot and I'm an user of a 2008 15" Macbook Pro (the first with dual graphics cards, GeForce 9400M and 9600M GT). I've installed a Crucial SSD in it which well boosted the reactivity of the computer but for new games it's not performing very well. After seeing the Quo Computer project for a universal motherboard on Kickstarter, I've got interested in Hackintosh. It hitted me like that and now i absolutely want to buy one. Right now I'm a bit short on money so my budget must be under 1300 € ($1700, including taxes) for the whole setup, including the display. I had to abandon the Core i7 and a more powerful graphic card to be a little more reasonable. But I plan to upgrade the last one in a year or two probably. I need a silent computer, that's why I love macs, I don't want a vacuum cleaner under my desk. Could please look at the setup I want to buy below, see if there is anything dumb? I know it must be compatible but I'm not sure I've picked all the right components. All prices include taxes. This is prices from a website where I want to buy the parts. Thank you. Intel Core i5-3570K 3,4GHz (HD 4000), 216 € ($282) Gigabyte GA-Z77MX-D3H TH (micro ATX, 2 thunderbolt) 156 € ($204) Gigabyte GeForce GTX 650 GV-N650OC-2GI 83 € ($109) Gigabyte GV-N66TWF2-2GD 2GB 182 € ($238) Be Quiet! Thank you for your comments.
  9. Hi, everyone! I'm thinking to build a hack, so I need some advices. I want 4 core Haswell core i5 and 8GB (2x4GB) of RAM. NO video (I'll be using internal). NO overclocking. SATA 3, USB 3 (at least it should on board). It would be great if mobo would have VGA output and also if it would be mini-itx (small as possible). Mac+Win boot. I know there are ga - h\z 77m - wifi boards, BUT (!) no VGA + wifi not working under hack. So... what can you suggest for me? What about b85 chipset? Is it good, or it is really crappy. I just what to buy budget motherboard, that's all. No fancy stuff needed. Thanks in advance.
