  4. Hi everyone! this is my first post on the insanelymac forum! I'm trying to get mavericks running in virtualbox on a lubuntu host. My machine is an intel core i3 laptop with 4gb ram (3.6 usable) and so it struggles a bit. The problem is that even with 2984mb of ram given to the VM (bearing in mind lubuntu only needs a few hundred MB ram to run) it has periods of about 5 minutes where OS X will be unusably slow and even the mouse will only move in small jumps every 2 seconds. Then it will return to normal for 5 minutes and then it will go back to dead slow. This even happens when it's just on the desktop, doing little else. I'm considering adding more ram to make it 8gb to try and fix this problem, however, my other option is to take the HDD (80gb 5400rpm sata) from my old laptop and attach it via a usb 3 port to my i3 laptop. Then install a proper hackintosh on there (keeping my 4gb ram) instead of running a virtual machine with 8gb. (Btw. don't want to install OS X on my i3 laptop's hard drive because it's not actually mine and I don't want to mess it up). So which option would you recommend? I could do both but I'd rather just do one. Thank you!
  5. Hi all! I've got into a problem when I was trying to install Mountain Lion on my PC. I have a 250GB HDD with 3 partitions on it, and I want to partition just one of these 2 partitions for Mountain Lion, while keep the other 2 partitions as it is now (NTFS), because I use the other 2 in Windows as a backup, so I have a lot of stuff on it. If I can do this can somebody answer me, how to do it ? Thanks for the answers in advance!

    No Hard Drives

I have started testing Mavericks DP1 and installed it on spare USB drive. Specs: Supermicro X8DAE Dual Xeon 5530 Nvidia GTX 570 24GB RAM From Mountain Lion installation I already know that this motherboard won't work properly W/O replacing AppleACPIPlatform and IOPCIFamily kexts (freezing etc.). So, I have installed as usual with -x, installation went smoothly, but when I replace those two kexts and reboot all my HDDs are missing. In verbose mode I see that com.apple.driver.AHCIPort has failed to load because of some error ..... I suppose that we'll need updated AppleACPIPlatform and IOPCIFamily kexts for Mavericks?
  7. Hello everyone! I want to do triple boot (Mac OS, Windows 10 and Remix OS) and I have two hard drives: an SSD (128 GB) where I have Mac OS and HDD which has two partitions: my data (260 GB) and a partition 50 GB. My idea is that in the HDD, on the partition of 50 GB to two partitions: one for Windows 30 GB and 20 GB remaining use for Linux. All this without losing my data. I've been looking but I'm a beginner at this double boot (less than three). No matter if I have to reinstall Mac OS but do not want to delete my files. Thanks for read and I wait for your help.

    Issues Booting Windows in Clover

I can't seem to track down an issue I'm having booting into ANY Windows installation using Clover. The laptop I'm attempting to dual boot is a BIOS only, with an unlocked Insyde H20 F1.B. It has two hard drives, but rather than use one for each OS, I'm partitioning the first one and using the second one as a shared ExFat drive between Yosemite/Windows 10 TP. The reason I'm setting it up like this is because my first drive is an SSD, second one a hybrid. Because the machine is BIOS only, in order to use a GPT style startup disk (as opposed to the less attractive MBR) I need to load the Windows installer via Clover, to avoid getting an error message about how Windows can't install. The whole goal is to avoid using MBR/hybrid MBR at all. In addition to the Windows USB installer(this one is actually in GPT format) I have, I also have one Windows 10 TP partition currently on the startup drive using MBR, and an old Windows 7 install on my secondary HDD, also using MBR. So I definitely need a Clover USB drive that will be able to boot into Windows pretty consistently, as once I'm using all GPT on my old BIOS only machine I cannot rely on the Windows bootloader at all. None of the Windows installations will boot using Clover. I select them, press enter, and they show a box. Waiting doesn't seem to do anything. I initially tried this using the latest Clover, r3193, and when it didn't work I tried r3185... It continued like that for a while, I'm pretty sure I've tested all versions of 2.3 by now. On some versions of Clover, none of the Windows drives will even show up! I've tried various versions on 3 different USB sticks I have, and when they do show the Windows it will immediately show a square if I try to boot into them, and I have to hold hard reboot. I have a good functioning installation of OS X on the 2nd HDD, so I have an edited DSDT.aml and config.plist that has native power management etc. No matter if the DSDT is there or not the behavior is exactly the same. I do have LegacyBIOSDefault on, and I've tried exploring PBR to no avail. When making the USB, I make sure to select 'Install boot0af in MBR' under Bootloader, and Clover EFI 64 bits Sata, and I typically don't mess with any of the other options. I tried BiosBlock once, but Clover never booted. I'm new to Clover, and obviously, I am missing something here. I've tried looking everywhere to see what I'm doing wrong, but this one is stumping me. Any ideas? It is booting OS X beautifully though

    My Computer Won't Boot

All of a sudden 2 days after installing mavericks upgrade, I was working inside windows and it froze. It was unrecoverable, so I held the power button to reboot. I held Option as I do every time I startup, and no start disks were found. At this point I restarted to allow the machine to boot into OSX and I was greeted with a picture of a folder with a question mark in it. I already bought a new drive, re-installed OSX (Mountain Lion... Mavericks can go pound sand) and re-installed a WinClone image of my bootcamp partition from 10/31. So as of now I am up and running. However, I absolutely must figure out what happened and how I can recover the last 90 days worth of files from the original drive. I ran TestDisk, and it does find a partition - but it doesn't match either of the sizes of the original OSX or Bootcamp partitions. I realize that is a huge red flag, so I have not gone any further in the data recovery process. Any advice or guidance would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks, Greg
  11. I have a laptop SSHD that's failing SMART. I know, I know, I should replace it, but I'm fully backed up and wouldn't be using Clover if I wasn't on the cheap... Gonna use this drive till it doesn't spin anymore lol Anyways, I have 2 SATA bays on my laptop after an optical disk delete. I keep the failing drive in the second one, and I notice that if it's plugged in at all Clover will hang indefinitely, not even making it to the GUI. It's very consistent; if the drive in it is NOT going to make it, but once you take it out it goes back to absolutely killing it. I know I shouldn't expect to much, but this drive still performs fantastic in Windows/OS X if used in an external drive bay over USB 3.0. I'm just surprised that it doesn't ever boot, considering this drive still performs solidly externally still. It makes me think that there may be more going on here than Clover just having trouble reading the drive - does Clover do any kind of hardware or SMART test? Could my BIOS be detecting that the drive is failing and blocking access to it? I do plan to replace this drive anyways, but have any of you guys seen anything like this?
