  1. I have one real problem remaining with my mac. I am running 10.11.3 but this problem has stuck with me from earlier builds. I am using a recent USB injector from Rehabman, and have disabled a few ports to get under the 15 device limit. All the ports I want working are working still no "red" 3.1 or type-c 3.1 ports, but thats ok since I don't have any of those devices. My problem is that if my computer goes to sleep with a USB drive plugged in, I get the improperly ejected message. I think there could be a DSDT edit for this problem to mark the USB ports as internal or something, but I don't have a good idea about that. Does anyone know what edit I might make so that USB disks don't get ejected on sleep (or if they do get ejected it is properly) I see there are some scripts that can be set to run to eject disks before sleep - but I would rather figure out how to configure the USB ports properly so they act normal.
  2. Just an idea cause I have no idea how to do it. With the USBInjector, you could build one so that the port that your cooler is plugged into is disabled in MacOS. That way when you boot to windows, it would still be communicating. It would just be invisible to MacOS and so would not cause you problems with sleep/wake - just an idea.
  3. Is this a place where i can ask a question? i have a Z170xUD5 motherboard and a I7 skyline processor. My graphics card is 970GTX 4GB. I have been using SMBIOS code for iMac17,1 but when I boot with the web drivers installed and nvda_driver=1 I only get a black screen when the logon screen should appear. I have team viewer installed so I can remote to the computer. What I notice is that it cannot see an external display attached. It is only driving the (nonexistent) internal monitor. If I switch the SMBIOS to MacPro3,1 -- that seems to resolve the graphics problem, but that has a whole set of other problems with USB ports etc. Is there anything I can do to get the 970 to work correctly while the SMBIOS is set to iMac17,1? --I found the answer to this on a different forum. The answer is to edit the AppleGraphicsControl.kext. I found instructions on how to do this by google searching for Solving NVIDIA Driver Install & Loading Problems
  4. I have only the USBInjectall, fakesmc and (intelmausiEthernet or AppleE1000) I have noticed now that if MacOS puts itself to sleep, everything wakes up fine -- video comes back ENet has a network connection, USB does't complain about power -- but if I choose sleep from the apple menu then I have all three problems. Sometimes video works when I put the computer to sleep from the menu and sometimes it doesn't, but ENet never comes back and USB always complains about too much power. Self induced sleep from the timer settings always seems to wake OK. So... whats the difference between MacOS sleeping automatically and me choosing it from the Apple Menu? I dunno.
  5. I have the same experience as Hashish. I had ethernet 211 working with IGBApple and now I have the I219 port working instead with the AppleIntell1000e kext modified as above. Most everything works fine at boot. I have correct Graphics, all RAM is recognized. When the computer goes or is put to sleep, when it wakes, sometimes I have no graphics, and always I have no Ethernet connection. This was true with both the 211 port and the 219 port with either kext mentioned above. In addition, when waking from sleep, the OS complains about too high a power draw on the USB ports. When I shut down with the computer in this state - after waking from sleep - the console log screen fills with errors about the USB system. The kexts I am using are FakeSMC, USBInjectAll, and AppleIntel1000E (only). I am doing a kext patch of AppleUSBXHCIPCI in clover.plist to remove the port limit - I think that I need to do something to actually configure the USB ports. I am reading that the USBInjectAll + remove port limits is only to be used on a temporary basis. I have not built a DSDT or SSDT for this system - I kind of though those went away with the into of UEFI, but now I am thinking they are still relevant. Otherwise in Clover, I only have verbose set for a boot flag, and when using my 8400GS, I have to set "Inject nVidia." When my 970 is installed, I have to switch around the nVidia settings in clover. i will move my good video card to this system permanently once it is as stable as my old MacOS system. (EP45-DS3L--old but 100% working) SMBIOS is set to 17,1 which could be the cause of the display trouble ok wake. Since I am saying I have an iMac - the system assumes that my only display is a secondary display plugged into the "iMac" rather than the primary display.
  6. I don't know what I am talking about.... so keep that in mind and don't make a buying decision based on this... I am working on my third generation MacOS build after a P45 chipset oldie 6 years ago and a Z87 based one a few years ago. Skylake is not going as smoothly as those other two, but that is to be expected. The asus z170-K looks like it could be good for MacOS. It has a Realtek 8111H based NIC which should be compatible with MacOS. And is has 887 audio, which also should be OK. Many of the Z170 motherboard have Intel I219-V NICs and those still are not working with MacOS. (Right?). My own motherboard, the Giga Z170x-UD5 (not TH) has a I211 and an I219 and only the 211 works with an added Kext and doesn't come back after sleep/wake. It is way to early to guess about what motherboard will eventually work, but I would say that working Ethernet is at the top of most people's list, just behind "It boots!". If your interested, the z170x-ud5 that I have has a thunderbolt header on the motherboard that combines with an as yet to be released thunderbolt card to provide a thunderbolt port - could be thunderbolt 2 though. I am not too excited about the number of PCI lanes you have to give up for Thunderbolt3 on the UD5TH for something I may never use. To support Thunderbolt3, they take away a lot of other stuff if you read the specs. It is not just UD5 + Thunderbolt = UD5TH. It is UD5 - (Sata, m.2, and eSATA stuff) + Thunderbolt = UD5TH.
  7. i was able to get the cheap video card 8400cs working correctly by easily checking inject nvidia in clover and removing the nv_disable boot flag - so my only flag is now "-v" with the GPU working correctly, the computer will sleep properly. The problem is that on wake there are two problems. The USB 3.0 ports start freaking out about a device using too much power and the Ethernet port can no longer detect that the Ethernet cable is plugged in - so no network. A far as iMessage, App store, iCloud - all that is working OK. I am a little concerned about the NIC on this MB. Te gigabytes used to have realtek NICs and those work out of the box.
  8. I was able to solve the "plusses" non-boot problem by deleting everything in my drive's clover folder and replacing it with everything from the working USB stick. So that's fixed.
  9. My system is working pretty well when I boot from the USB Clover disk that I did the install from and then choose the installed OS on the SATA disk. I still need to do some kext editing to get my 8400GS vid card working, but that it not too important to me. Ethernet, I got working with that AppleIGB.kext with no hassle. When I boot from Clover that I installed on the SATA drive after installing El Cap, all I get is a line of "+++++" pluses. If I boot up using the USB stick that I built for installing El Cap (also Clover) and then pick the El Cap install, it works OK. Any idea what that might be? Your config.plist has iMac 17,1 as the computer type, but Clover Configurator has not been updated for that to be an option, right?
  10. Thank you for the post vonmolk. With your config.plist, I was able to get the OS installed. My computer showed 16GB of RAM right off the bat - I know others had complained of seeing only half their RAM on some skylake builds. I'm working on getting either one of the ethernet ports enabled, but I see there is quite a lot of guidance on the custom Kexts needed for the 211/219 that this board has. Computer won't go to sleep either - even when I tell it to in the Apple menu = but that could be due to not having the nVidia web drivers loaded. I also need to transfer in my "good" video card - a 970 - once this build is stable enough. Right now I have a cheapy 8400 GTS in there. The memory I bought, I am pretty sure was this... which is working well for me. CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Desktop Memory Model CMK16GX4M2B3000C15R Thanks again for posting your info. It really helped me get over the hump on the install.
  11. Its nice to see that someone has this MB working. I have the same MB and Proc as you, but I am stuck at no SATA drives visible in the installer where you choose where you want to install El Cap. I have flash my BIOS to the beta that is hosted on Gigabyte.us. I disabled the net IOAPIC setting in the BIOS, but that didn't let me see any disks. I tried both plugging into the Intel hosted SATA ports and the ASMedia (?) ones without success. I sure would appreciate some hints on how you configured config.plsit. Would you consider sending it or posting here? Also if you could post what BIOS settings you found to be important.
  12. Could anyone help me with figuring out what I have done? I upgraded one of my 10.6.7s to 10.6.8 and lost audio. I am having trouble remembering how I had audio implemented. I have an EP45-DS3L and am just using my rear line out. I am running Cham 2.5 RC5 r731 on its own partition. I only have 3 extensions in Extras, FakeSMC, IONetworkingFamily, and OrangeIconFIX. Here is my boot.plist. and then I have a bunch of Binary under device-properties at the end. I think I implemented audio by editing the DSDT, adding that stuff at the end if boot.plist and modifying AppleHDA. Does that sound right? After updating, I've lost audio, and I am trying to figure out either a new way to enable audio that will work with 10.6.8 & 10.7 or how to edit what I already have in place to get it to work again. Can I just re-edit AppleHDA? since that maybe is the only file that has changed? I don't think I am using any LegacyHDA or any extra Kexts for audio right now. If I use the supplied Kext in this forum now for audio, do I need to undo something in my DSDT and boot plist for that kext to work or do I just drop it in there? <dict> <key>Default Partition</key> <string>hd(0,3)</string> <key>DropSSDT</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GenerateCStates</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GeneratePStates</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1440x900x32</string> <key>Instant Menu</key> <string>No</string> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>arch=i386</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>3</string> <key>arch</key> <string>i386</string> <key>device-properties</key> <string>a902000001000000020000005e0200000d00000002010c00d041030a010000000101060000010101060000007fff04001e00000072006f006d002d007200650076006900730069006f006e0000002d0000006e5669646961204765466f72636520393430304754204f70656e474c20456e67696e65205b454..... etc
  13. Thank you for the link. I've downloaded it and I am testing.
  14. Could you post a link to the JMicron kext you are using. If you can't find it again, please post the name of the kext and the byte size. I would love to have my optical drive working without spending $30 on a new one. I had a little trouble with the edits for the USB High speed. All the sample text I copied and pasted into the dsdt text from the web contained <tab> characters. The compiler complained about non-ascii characters. I replaced all the tabs with multiple spaces and then the dsdt compiled without errors. Maybe that is the problem.
  15. What if you remove smbios.plist? I have seen bad edits, or incorrect information in there cause KPs right about where you are seeing them. That sure sounds like a DSDT editing problem. You should double check that you have changed the (RTC) section of the DSDT like it says in the guide. While you are in there, make sure you edit the High speed usb section too. There is a link to the instructions in the first post.
