  1. Logic Studio 8 Install Problems.

I had this issue when installing Logic 8. I had to get the system to recognise the video card to the point where it said in system profiler that QE and CI were enabled. I have a different video card to you and it was endless trawling thru the forums to get kexts for my video card (ATI Radeon x600 PRO) before it worked. I still think the video card is not actually fully activated because graphics-wise it doesn't look anything like my real imac which has a far lesser video card, but the point is that the system was "tricked" (my theory anyway) into believing that QE and CI are activated. Logic installed fine after this and runs nicely. Sorry I don't have any specifics about how to get your card working, but hopefully this helps.
  2. ATIX600 QE CI SOLVED FOR LEOPARD

Ok, I've got it working now. For anyone else who was confused as to what exactly the instructions were...here's what I did: Callisto for resolution change To install Callisto, I went to http://omni.110mb.com/callisto/ and downloaded the final build (008). In that archive there's an installation.html which, in a nutshell, tells you to do 2 things, as well as a few cleanup commands. Firstly, you need to find your video card's device ID in "About this mac"/more info/Graphics. Mine was 0x3e50 for the Gigabyte ATI Radeon x600 PRO 256mb PCI-E card. As outlined in the installation.html, put that into the CallistoHAL.kext/Contents/Info.plist file at the location specified. Secondly, you need to put in the EDID of your monitor. I suspect that this may not be totally necessary in all cases (but that's just a gut feeling). Now that I have 1280 x 1024 running I'm pretty sure I could swap out for another monitor which also supports that resolution. Am yet to try. Anyway instructions in the installation.html. There are also a couple of Mac options for obtaining the EDID so you don't have to boot into windows just to get this. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_disp...n_data#Software which mentions SwitchResX and DisplayConfigX. (Oh, one more thing: the Callisto instructions mention not leaving out the < and > characters surrounding the EDID hex value, but I found that to be erroneous given that the Property List Editor does this for you, so don't try to paste in a value containing those characters. At least if you're using the top half of the PLE window. I expect if you're using the text part below then that still applies.) QE/CI activation The simple answer to what was bugging me (see my question in the post above) was that you drag all the folders (apart from the Callisto ones which you've already dealt with above) into KextHelper. So that means the 6 folders named ATI*, whether they end with .kext or .bundle or .plugin. I put them all in and ran it and it worked. Note: KextHelper isn't exactly rock solid - at one point it tried to run my root password as a shell script and gave an error! But just restarted KH and all was fine. After running in KH, I just did a sudo rm -f /System/Library/Extensions.mkext, then rebooted. After all that, QE/CI is activated. Top menu bar doesn't have the apple logo but I think I'll live with that. I do think there's some weight to the argument that this is not fully activated (and may be just partially activated / partially tricking the OS into thinking it's activated) because video effects such as minimising windows with the genie effect are nowhere near as smooth as on my real iMac, which uses an ATI card with half the memory of this one. Regardless, I'm really happy with my hackintosh now, and only wanted it for non-video-intensive programs (which required QE/CI for install nonetheless, e.g. Logic). I'm nowhere near an expert but happy to answer questions about what I did. cheers, Ian
  3. ATIX600 QE CI SOLVED FOR LEOPARD

Ok, great. But I'm still confused as to exactly which of the folders to put in kext helper... Inside the rar file I have these folders: ATINDRV.kext ATIRadeon9700.kext ATIRadeon9700DVDDriver.bundle ATIRadeon9700GA.plugin ATIRadeon9700GLDriver.bundle ATIRadeon9700VADriver.bundle as well as the Callisto ones. Can you just give me a little bit more detail as to what I am supposed to do? cheers, Ian
  4. ATIX600 QE CI SOLVED FOR LEOPARD

The device ID is 3e50. I'm a bit further down the track now, and thanks to Callisto 008, I have multiple resolutions. Still no QE/CI though. What I want to know is this: in the ATIX600QECI.rar you have provided, there are many folders and files. Assuming I'll leave the Callisto ones out (already working resolution change), which ones of the 6 ATI* folders do I have to modify? Which files exactly within which folders? thanks, Ian
  5. Could I please also have the kexts? My email is ianpublicstuff@gmail.com I have an ATI Radeon x600 PRO 256mb PCI-E. The device ID is 3e50.
  6. ATI Radeon x600 PRO - help please

Ok, that device ID is wrong. Should be 3e50. About this Mac tells me: Type: Display Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 256 MB Vendor: ATI (0x1002) Device ID: 0x3e50 Revision ID: 0x0000 Displays: Display: Resolution: 1024 x 768 Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Software Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Not Supported Any ideas?
  7. ATI Radeon x600 PRO - help please

I mistakenly put this in the wrong forum to begin with - apologies, it wasn't an attempt to cross post and I couldn't see any way of moving it once posted. Anyway... I have an ATI Radeon PRO x600 256mb PCI-E card (not sure the device id but from other posts, maybe it's 5b62 - (how do I find this out), and I've successfully installed and run Kalyway 10.5.2, but can only get one resolution: 1024 x 768. Can someone please explain what I need to do to get some higher resolutions? I've read that it probably involves installing kexts and something about Callisto or something...it's all a bit confusing. Could someone point me in the direction of some simple instructions?

  9. ATIX600 QE CI SOLVED FOR LEOPARD

Sorry, I should have said ATI Radeon x600 PRO PCI-E card.
  10. ATIX600 QE CI SOLVED FOR LEOPARD

Could someone really dumb the instructions down for me? I really don't know how to install kexts etc, or about what to do with Callisto. I've searched on the forums and google, and there are heaps of posts where people are talking about the necessity to do this sort of stuff for their devices, but for the life of me I can't find anywhere explaining how to do it. I have an ATI Radeon PRO 256mb PCI-E card (not sure the device id but from other posts, maybe it's 5b62 - how do I find this out), and I've successfully installed and run Kalyway 10.5.2, but can only get one resolution: 1024 x 768. Can someone please explain what I need to do with the downloaded archive (ATIX600QECI.rar)? Sorry for the noobiness but there's a lot of folders and files in that archive and lots have the same name in different folders etc. I just need it to be a bit more step-by-step. Thanks in advance.
  11. Continual reboot - newbie

Also, should I select the ACPI Fix? Is there any harm in selecting this if I don't need it?
  12. Continual reboot - newbie

Thanks. I guess what I don't know is which are the Absolutely Necessary drivers? - Given that my motherboard chipset is ICH7, does that mean I need the "ICHx Fixed" patch? - Given that my video card is ATI Radeon x600 PRO, what video patches, if any, should I select? I had to have the video card to install on this mboard - it's a known issue with P5KPL that it won't install with the onboard video. - I'm assuming I should have chosen the AppleAzaliaAudio (having only just now looked at what the onboard audio is for my mboard) - Any ideas about patches for the onboard LAN? thanks, Ian
  13. Continual reboot - newbie

My setup: Motherboard: Asus P5KPL-AM/PS CPU: Celeron 2.66 Ram: 2gb Video: Gigabyte ATI Radeon X600 PRO PCI-E 256mb DVD: SATA Hard drive: IDE I just successfully installed iDeneb 1.3 which is OSX 10.5.5. No problems during install. On reboot after install, I've changed the boot order in the bios back to HD first. It gets to the boot loader and I press a key so that I can enter the "-v" flag. It recognises that it's booting from the drive "Leopard" which is what I named it during install. Then it spits out a few lines very quickly and reboots again. I can pass -x -f -s and it seems to be loading kexts for a few seconds but way too quick for me to read what it gets up to before rebooting. One thing to note: I had no idea what packages to select in the custom install, so apart from some of the optional software, I didn't select anything else. Should I have (based on my above specs)? I get the feeling it'll probably need drivers for something like onboard LAN or sound, but no idea what to select. Also, any bios settings I should look out for which might cause this? All advice appreciated. cheers, Ian
  14. I've been using SpanningSync for a few days, and whilst it's a handy product, there are 2 things stopping me from buying it: - price is quite excessive. $US65 is about $AUS80, fairly hefty for what it is. - it seems to randomly give me "SpanningSync encountered an error" when trying to authenticate. It's something to do with the keychain, but it bugs me that I can't just enter my gmail username and password and have it use that, rather than somehow integrate with the keychain. I realise there is a suggestion above and I'll try it out.
