  1. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

Hi All... Just got my X5355 quad core cpu's and put them into my Dell 2950 II and BAM! It all works fine with no problems at all....OSX booted right up and the install was a breeze So it was the Xeon 5050 CPU's that were the culprit. Thanks Donk for all your hard work and support!
  2. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

Hi Donk, Yeah been doing some research on this and Im gonna get a couple of x5355 quad cores which will work fine on my 2950. There cheap out there if you look around. The x5355 also was used in some of Apple's MAC towers. Ill report back once I get them and let ya know Thanks for all your help!
  3. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

Hi Donk, Yeah tried putting cpuid.1.eax = "0000:0000:0000:0001:0000:0110:1010:0101" in the VMX file and boot using -v npci=0x2000 and now get the following. Im begining to think its the CPU
  4. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

Hi Donk... I cold power cycled my 2950 II and the same thing happened. I did exactly what I did on the Dell XPS 420 which worked, on the 2950 and it had the same results Perhaps a different cpu? Or maybe the Dell 2950 II hardware just isnt compatible...dunno. I did run this though: I got back a 3 which tells me that VT is enabled in the bios and can be used.... Thanks for all your work Donk!! Run this command: # esxcfg-info|grep "HV Support" The output of the HV Support command indicates the type of Hyper-visor support available. These are the descriptions for the possible values: 0 - VT/AMD-V indicates that support is not available for this hardware. 1 - VT/AMD-V indicates that VT or AMD-V might be available but it is not supported for this hardware. 2 - VT/AMD-V indicates that VT or AMD-V is available but is currently not enabled in the BIOS. 3 - VT/AMD-V indicates that VT or AMD-V is enabled in the BIOS and can be used. been looking around the net for answers...does EPT need to be available for this to work? Thanks!
  5. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

No but Ill try that next..I did check for Virtualization in the bios and enabled it...it didn't say whether or not it was VT-x
  6. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

Well I think my 2950 II just doesn't like OSX Virtualization..just set up a DELL XPS 420 and boom...installation is happening as I type, quick and painless it seems. Go figure....I would have thought that the Dell 2950 II would have worked as the processor is stated to have VT-x. Its a Dual Core Xeon 5050 3Ghz. Maybe a different Xeon? Say a an E5345 Quad Core or such? I dunno... Still scratching my head over this one....maybe the Dell 2950 II hardware? Anyone have any thoughts on this..... Thanks for all the support I get around here though...just glad its working on the Dell XPS 420....cpu is Q6600

FIrst off, thanks for all your hard work and support on this! I am still struggling with this but not giving up! I loaded a vmware vmdk plus vmx, etc into the datastore and I right click on the vmx file and add to inventory but when I power up the virtual machine I gert the following: Unable to create virtual SCSI device for scsi0:0, '/vmfs/volumes/512d3c94-09f9833c-c876-001c23c9e598/MLVMware/MountainLion.vmdk' Failed to open disk scsi0:0: Unsupported or invalid disk type 7. Ensure that the disk has been imported. seen this before a few times but have not been able to figure it out. Anyone know this one? Thanks!

  11. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

I have been having nothing but headaches with this whole procedure. I have tried everything in this thread to no avail. I have used the unlocker provided in the beginning of this thread. I have tried USB, DVD, diff versions of OSX. I evan used an iAtkos DVD to see if I could boot with that...actuall the iAtkos DVD started to boot more that the others I have tried. I saw that there was a new unlocker provided so I uninstalled the old one, rebooted the ESXi box and transferred over the new version using Filezilla. (I am doing all of this with a MAC using Fusion 5 with Windows 7 to access the ESXi Box). i then tried to install the new version by typing ./install.sh and get a permission denied statement back /vmfs/volumes/51225005-2f446dbc-3bbf-001c23c9e598/esxi # ./install.sh -sh: ./install.sh: Permission denied I am logged in as root using puTTY One more obstacle...can anyone help? Please? Thanks! Oh yeah Im using a Dell 2950 II server and I checked that the CPU's will support VT
  12. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

Hi All... Thanks for the quick responses! I am using a Dell 2950 II which is on the VMware compatibility list. I have been reading these threads for weeks now and still cannot get OSX on my ESXi server. The first thing I did was install Donk's unlocker on the ESXi box and then create the virtual machine from vShere I have tried booting form the USB stick via EFI Shell and get stuck at this point: And it seems to just stay there. I have i tried this with DVD and ISO images as well with the same results...as usual your help is appreciated!! Thanks!
  13. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

Hi All.... Ive been reading the posts for weeks now and I just got A Dell 2950 II server. I have been tearing hair out trying to figure out how to: A) install the patch 2 for ESXi i am currently using # esxcli software vib install -d /ESXi-510-2012120001.zip..the directory I am running it from is: /vmfs/volumes/51225005-2f446dbc-3bbf-001c23c9e598 which is where the ESXi-510-2012120001.zip is located. When I run it I get the following /vmfs/volumes/51225005-2f446dbc-3bbf-001c23c9e598 # esxcli software vib install -d /ESXi-510-201212001.zip [MetadataDownloadError] Could not download from depot at zip:/ESXi-510-201212001.zip?index.xml, skipping (('zip:/ESXi-510-201212001.zip?index.xml', '', "Error extracting index.xml from /ESXi-510-201212001.zip: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/ESXi-510-201212001.zip'")) url = zip:/ESXi-510-201212001.zip?index.xml Please refer to the log file for more details. /vmfs/volumes/51225005-2f446dbc-3bbf-001c23c9e598 # any help would be appreciated! Thanks! On a good note I did find a way to upgrade the bios on theses machines by using Dell Repository Manager ver 1.5 heres the link http://lonesysadmin.net/2011/03/07/the-easiest-way-to-update-a-dell-servers-firmware/ Thanks! Figures it out! You have to use the whole path statement to where your zip upgrade file is located even if your in the directory its located in. Did that make sense?
