  1. Mac mini in an indigo G3 case

That's an amazing mod! I really want to go with a genuine Mac Mini Logic Board and a legal copy of OS X, so that everything is legit and easy to upgrade. Where (besides ebay) can I get one?
  2. Mac mini in an indigo G3 case

It's either becoming a new Mac, a new Linux box, or a fish tank... I have always loved the design of these models... and with a pait job, some lighting effects, some wheels (jacked up in the back of course), a core duo and a dream... I think this would make a fun project and a sweet machine.
  3. I want to build a mac mini. I was considering two options. 1. get a real mini logic board from ebay and build it in a custom case and install a legit copy of OS X... 2. Buy a mini itx board and Hackintosh it out. Can anyone give me some sense of how compatible this board will be? here's the newegg URL http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813153077
  4. I have a dead indigo G3 in my basement, and i am itching to mod it. I want to strip the CRT components out of it, drop in an LCD (manufacturer unimportant), put a mac mini logic board in it, and make sure all of the I/O ports (USB 2, FireWire, headphone) are bridged to the original I/O ports on the iMac case, as I assume the I/O ports from the mini logic board will be completely contained within the iMac. I would like to use a standard 3.5" IDE or SATA HDD. Here's what I need help with: 2.5" drive to 3.5" conversion *is it reliable? *are there any concerns mounting the logic board: *how the f@%k do i do that? Power Supply: *Is there any chance in hell that I can use the original down power supply from the indigo? *can I power the LCD from whichever power supply I go with? It would be nice to use only the one power connecter from the iMac. If I have to dremmel it out, so there's two power connectors, I will. DVD drive *what slot loading DVD-RWs will fit in the case and be OSX compatible? I don't mind using patch burn.

  6. Dual Booting OSX for ProTools?

Why not just use Windows? I know that's a bad word around here, but I use it in my studio every day and it rocks. I have had no latency issues and no stability problems. In fact Windows lets me optimize my machine in ways my macs won't. (i am referring to XP not Vista)
  7. I am glad to see so many people getting their cardBuses working! This gives me hope! I have a TI PCIxx12 CardBus in an ACER Travelmate 2480. I have replaced the IOPCCardFamily kext with the one probono attached. but when I dmesg | grep PC it says that start failed. I have not edited the plist. This may be a little out of my league... How do I know what values to change, and how do i change them?
  8. Blueberry G3 Won't start

It sounded like a static discharge from the CRT but i am pretty sure the sound came through the speakers. I replaced the down power supply, but that didn't do it. Could I swap out the main board or should I put this main board in another machine?
  9. Linux or OS X?

I checked out the Sabayon project site and it looked pretty cool, but I didn't see a PPC build. There seemed to be only x86 and x86 64 bit.
  10. I have a blueberry G3 that someone gave me. When I push the power button nothing happens. There is a small "crackle" sound like static electricity, but that's it. I assumed that this was a defective power supply, but is there a way to tell for sure? Could it be something else? This is a slot loading machine. I believe it is 400MHz but not sure until I get it running.
  11. Linux or OS X?

I have been given a G3 iMac. I have a small pub and thought it might make a good machine for customers to surf You Tube and such. Since this is an old and slow machine, I was thinking about installing Xubuntu Linux on it since it is not a very resource hungry OS. However I have heard some horror stories of multimedia playback on Linux. I realize that I can run OS X on this machine but I have heard that it is painfully slow. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
  12. G4 upgrade cards... worth it?

Multitrack audio recording and video rendering.
  13. G4 upgrade cards... worth it?

Seems like I could build a pretty sweet Hackintosh for a similar amount of money. Thanks for the help everyone, I think I have my answer. -Stereobus-
  14. Viewing Windows Partitions

How can I mount my Vista partition on the OS X desktop? Once that's done, can I read/write to it? thanx! Stereobus Acer TravelMate 2480 Intel Celeron 1.6 GHz (Recognized as 1.6 core solo) 1.5GB RAM Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
  15. I have an aging Digital Audio PowerMac with dual 533MHz Processors 768MB SDRAM (PC133). This thing was awesome in it's day, and is still a good web surfer but it's getting slow on some video apps. Here's my question... Would it be worth it to get a 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz single processor upgrade card for this machine? The stock processors each have a 1MB cache memory and the upgrade cards have really small caches arpund 256k - 512k. With such a small cache and only one processor am I going to see any kind of boost in performance? Would it be worth shelling out $200? Thanks, Stereobus
