  1. Z170A Gaming M5 + 6600K Sierra install

I've used the stock one that Clover gave me after it's install, and the last one I tried is from a guy with about the same hardware from a german board @xtraa mentioned above, from this post. I don't know how to add files to a post so here's a link to my dropbox with all files I've tried. Probably I've messed up the configs, after it didn't work I tried changing stuff to make it work but no luck yet.
  2. Z170A Gaming M5 + 6600K Sierra install

@xtraa I have tried what you told me, but still no luck. Right now the boot gets stuck at "unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI"\ ......." I have typed out my UEFI settings, maybe I'm missing something. Files in my drivers64UEFI folder are: AppleImageCodec-64.efi AppleKeyAggregrator-64.efi AppleUITheme-64.efi DataHubDxe-64.efi EmuVariableUefi-64.efi FirmwareVolume-64.efi FSInject-64.efi HFSPlus.efi OsxAptioFix2Drv-64.efi OsxFatBinaryDrv-64.efi PartitionDxe-64.efi SMCHelper-64.efi The kexts I placed in /Other were: AtherosE2200Ethernet.kext FakeSMC.kext realtekALC.kext USBInjectAll.kext MSI CLICK BIOS 5 MB: Z170A Gaming M5 (MS-7977) BIOS Version: 1.C CPU i5 6600K @ 3,5 GHz RAM DDR4 16GB 3000MHz used expansion slots GTX970 4G gaming edition TP link gigabit ethernet (have tried booting without both TP LINK cards, didn't matter.) 3. Z170A Gaming M5 + 6600K Sierra install

I'm sorry for replying this late, work and school got in between my free time! I didn't have any time to retry installing clover on my usb yet, but I can confirm that I did use the 1.C BIOS. Is this a serious issue? I did have legacy only selected, and disabled CSM, enabled AHCI I will check the german board and will try again soon, thank you for your tips so far!
  4. - Not working yet - I have talked about installing Sierra on my system here and already got some great tips from cyberdevs but to avoid confusion with the Gigabyte mainboard topics and to maybe help people with the same components with their Sierra install, I made a new topic here. System setup: - MSI Z170A Gaming M5 - i5 6600K 3,5 GHz - Crucial Vengeance 2x8GB DDR4 3000MHz - MSI GTX 970 4G - TP link wireless card - TP links second ethernet card - 2x Intel M.2 SSD 120GB - Adata SP900 128GB SSD BIOS settings: - UEFI booting only - VT-d off - serial port off - Thunderbolt support off (didn't matter with booting for working so I left it off) - USB handoff on - CFG lock off - XMP on (for 3000MHz DDR4) Software using so far: USB with 10.12.1 downloaded from the App Store and copied using createinstallmedia USB with latest Clover (r3911 at the moment of writing) Status It doesn't work yet. Can't even boot into the installer Booting gets stuck at osxaptiofixdrv, tried using osxaptiofixdrv2 and didn't work either. Tried various methods to install Clover, with bootdiskutility on windows, the normal installer on Mac, stock config.plist and various modified configs from users around the forum regarding the Gigabyte 170X topics. It can be that I made a very stupid mistake of some kind, but after three days of trying I'm out of ideas.
  5. El Capitan on GA-Z170X-Gaming 5

@cyberdevs you are right, my bad, I didn't check that. I booted the installer on my old Sandy Bridge (which booted without any issues ofcourse) laptop and used the terminal command sw_vers -buildVersion to check, and it is indeed the first release of 10.11, 15A284. Strange thing is, that I did use createinstallmedia when I created the USB about a month ago with the original App Store installer. Kind of weird that the download Apple served me last month was the first version. What would be a better option, to download latest El Capitan or go for Sierra instead?
  6. El Capitan on GA-Z170X-Gaming 5

Hey everyone, I'm trying to install El Capitan on my setup, with a similiar board. However, every time I try to boot I get a "this os is not supported on this platform error" followed by reason and then a serial number of a 17,1 imac inserted by clover. When I clear the SMBIOS settings I get the same error but then with the reason "M170A Gaming M5" which is my mainboard. What am I doing wrong here? Last time I installed OSX (ML on a ThinkPad T420) I got clover to work thanks to kogenmantis but now I'm a bit stuck... My setup is: MSI Z170A Gaming M5 i5 6600K 3,5GHz MSI GTX 970 4G 2x Intel M.2 120GB ssd's 1x ADATA SP900 128GB SSD 2x 8GB 3000MHz Crucial DDR4 Searched a bit but further then "it's smbios related" didn't my search results explain it to me. The only post related to my specific hardware was placed on a forum that shall not be named including tools that shall not be used, so that's why I'm asking here now. With kind regards, distortionmusic
  7. Lenovo ThinkPad T420 with UEFI Only

Thanks for the advice tluck, I was so stupid to just automatically rename my OEM folder. I've got my T420 4236Z9U up and running now (i5-2520m, hd3000 gpu, wwan, 6gb, 120GB ssd (windows 8.1) and 120gb sata (osx). By the way, when I reboot, my brightness resets to about 20%, but the maximum brightness doesn't cause any issues anymore (not going to max before sleep), so it's just the brightness resetting every time. Is there a fix I can try for this? I'll try to get the t420s (4174PEG) to work as well.
  8. Lenovo ThinkPad T420 with UEFI Only

I'll try again today (: I have tried booting with clean clover install via cvad's utility, and with cvad's util and then replacing with your folders, and when that didn't work I tried with different configs. I've tried to follow your guide step by step, what do I miss here? I will keep trying until it works!! edit: I got the installer to work, don't ask how. For some reason, cvad's utility doesn't work as well as it could be, but that's probably me. What I've done now, is following: 1. get original .app 2. use Diskmaker X (or do it in Terminal with createinstallmedia) to make OSX usb 3. plug in the USB stick in a Windows machine and (I don't know if for everyone, but for me it worked under windows 8.1) and you'll see the EFI partition of the usb installer. (You can manually mount it on a OSX system as well, but this was easier) 4. just copied the files from @tluck's zip file to the root of that partition. 5. boot from your osx install usb It's now installing on the T420s, so I'll see where it goes now
  9. Lenovo ThinkPad T420 with UEFI Only

I got the bootloader and my USB copy working, there is just one tiny issue: On the T420s (4174PEG) and the T420 (4236Z9U) I have here, the startup ends here... any ideas?
  10. Lenovo ThinkPad T420 with UEFI Only

Lucky enough my boss let me use his iMac. I've tried cvad's util, but I think I had downloaded a bad image which was modified by someone. Because the images of Mavericks are hard to find, I'm now downloading an original image on the iMac. I will try if the new Diskmaker X (formally liondiskmaker) will work with this. Thanks for the tip anyway @tluck!
  11. Lenovo ThinkPad T420 with UEFI Only

It's a long time ago since I've been on this forum, after working with Windows 8 for a while, there is this feeling again (muhaha) that I want OSX running here on my t420, and maybe on the t420s that I have now as well. I've read a lot of pages since I left, and all I have to say is that you guys all do amazing work! So much more compatibility since I started haha. I'll try to get my hands on a Mac this week so I can make a good USB installer again.
  12. Lenovo ThinkPad T420 with UEFI Only

@cayspekko I've tried a caddy for my optical bay, and switched back to optical. Issue is that now and then the drive gets removed from the system, I think it's because my caddy does not have such a handy locking system the original optical drive has. Did you use an original caddy or third party? @kogen mantis, I'm still working on OSX with this system and it works like a charm. Only issues I still try to resolve is sleep problems (the one i've mentioned before, sometimes it goes to sleep well, and sometimes it gets stuck with flickering sleep light and heavy blowing fan) and my VGA out does not work, but that is not a big issue battery goes much longer then with Windows by the way
  13. Lenovo ThinkPad T420 with UEFI Only

Yeah indeed. Brightness is not really an issue in my case, because I use mine for school. Which means, I use lower brightness anyway for longer battery life, but I put it to sleep every now and then as well. I was searching the net for a possibility to use multitouch like the newer MacBooks have (three finger window switching etc), would be great it there just was sectretly hidden button to turn multitouch options in prefpane for touchpad... can you tell what you have done to make sound kexts from the project you mentioned? I didn't get the way he got it to work.
  14. Lenovo ThinkPad T420 with UEFI Only

I use the original 1.43 bios now. How does your system run now then? I am running OSX only now, and I use it for school every day (Yeah it's a bit tricky but it does work much better then Windows). EDIT: disable hibernate works really well, it goes to sleep faster (immediately) and it wakes up with the same speed as well! Can you tell me how your testing with the other sound kext is going? I can't get it to work yet, I've read trough the tread but I'm not much wiser yet haha. I can confirm that everything that worked before update keeps working after update to 10.8.2 btw. It runs really stable and fast, much better then with chameleon and non-efi use. Joke is, that with the use of EFI, you really get all the "toys" you have with a real mac. Like you mentioned in your first post. Even Bootcamp seems to be working.
  15. Lenovo ThinkPad T420 with UEFI Only

After a day i use I notice that sometimes when I close the lid, it doesn't go to sleep but freezes with a black screen and a flashing sleep indicator. Do you have that as well or would that be specific to my model Thinkpad and it's DSDT now?
