  1. Dell XPS 410 Resource Extravaganza

spamsink, I would love to try this, but the post says to run "nasm", which is not found on my system. They say it's been included in the repo now (which I am hoping to find a compiled nightly build) but I cannot find details on how to get it. Do you (or anyone else) have a compiled version you can share with everyone? thank you

thanks for the help ikahrus. i made this and another change and now i'm even unable to boot the HD with the chameleon flash drive not sure exactly what messed it up, but i think i'm going to start it over again. a new mac mini is looking better and better everyday... thanks

Rob G, thanks for the excellent instructions. i know have a 10.6 base running and this wasn't nearly as hard as the 10.4 and 10.5 installs. i have couple of things though: 1. Chameleon RC2 packager kept getting hung up so i used RC3 with a manual install 2. The installer didn't see my disk at first. i moved it to a lower number SATA and it was happier after that. 3. i didn't see an "extra" folder on the USB drive, so i created it manually on the root of the drive, is this what you intended? 4. right at the end i got an error about selecting a start up disk and it wanted me to reinstall. has anyone else gotten this? 5. the welcome walk through seemed to get hung up a few times, but it eventually went through 6. at first i was unable to get out to the internet. moved the cable to the onboard NIC (YES!!!), rebooted, and then it was fine. have a lot of things to do to bring it up to speed. i'll poke around later to see if everything works. thanks so much! Brandon, Yes, GUID partition. also, i just dragged and dropped the kext into the appropriate dir.

I booted up the drive to my old OS X install and edited the file but i still get the "still waiting for root device" ugh.
  8. Dell XPS 410 Resource Extravaganza

what did you do in order to edit the kext to prevent the waiting for root device error? what editor? thanks
  9. Dell XPS 410 Resource Extravaganza

That certainly sucks. What kind of help could we provide?

see attached image. I believe the bottom 2 are the ones that do not show up. The orange cables go to my DVD drives, one doesn't show up in OS X. The red goes to the HD that I boot from. Hope this helps, Drew

I used the ToH release. I see you tried it, but were you booting off a SATA DVD drive? As far as seeing the hard drives. From 10.4.8 I remember I set my RAID to off in the bios. I suggest doing the same. Also, there are two SATA ports that do not show up in OS X. I could take a picture of mine if you'd like.

I've already posted a fairly thorough instruction set previously on this thread for 10.5. You may want to check it out. Thanks, Drew
