  1. [GUIDE] OSX Lion on non-GUID (works on final too)

Thanks I'll trying this out soon! I want to tri boot Lion, Win 7x64 and Ubuntu. This was easy with my old Kalyway distro but Lion is way more involved.
  2. Hi all, so I now have: A working Chameleon install A (mostly) working Lion install A working Leopard install The only way I could get the Lion install to work was to add the files that nhnt11 posted. Everything is working except the track pad. Is there something I can do to get this to work from my Leopard install or will I need to go find a USB mouse then fix it from within Lion? Let me know what info I should post about this. I have an m1530. TNKS! ram
  3. Hi all, hope this is the right place for a Chameleon question. So most of the time when I try to install Chameleon it never lets me choose a destination partition. It just goes straight from "Introduction" to "Installation Type". Using Chameleon RC5 1102 on Leopard, but the same thing was happening when I had Lion GM installed. I'm currently trying to get a Lion install happening off another partition. The only time I can get it to work is if I unmount everything except the HD partitions ie all mounted images etc and also tried Edit: Eeek this seems to be sightly random, almost like the installer needs to see there's a different number of "disks" mounted to update it's destination partition list then restart the installer a couple of times. Any suggestions? TNKS! ram Hmm, as is the usual case writing this stuff down gives me more ideas. It looks like if I either mount or unmount a drive/partition/image whatever just purely to change the number of things mounted then run the installer, quit and then run it again it seems to consistently give me the destination option
  4. Sorry if I'm getting off topic with the Chameleon stuff but there's not much info about boot0: error around. I used EFI mount and that was fine, there wasn't anything in the EFI partition. Whenever I run the Chameleon installer with anything but the OS partition mounted it doesn't give me an option to change the destination, it just skips over that so I tried to manually install Chameleon but that didn't work either. How did you install Chameleon on your EFI partition? I've read every Lion guide and no one says anything about this so I'm assuming I've screwed something along the way I'm quite happy to nuke it and start again. I'm pretty sure I used GParted to create the GUID table so maybe that's it?
  5. Thanks LatinMcG! OK so do you guys follow this guide for editing your DSDTs? http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=190780 If so I'll invest some time in learning how to do that. Also can someone give me a quick rundown of exactly how they setup their hard drive? I'm getting the "Boot0: Error" message when trying to boot after installing Chameleon RC5 1102. I can still boot fine of the install USB stick. GParted live says I have an EFI fat32 partition and a HFS+ partition where Lion is installed, is that normal? TNKS! ram
  6. Hi guys, looks like I've found the place to hang out for m1530 owners I'm attempting to install Lion as per this guide: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;hl=lion%20usb I'm getting the freezes other people are talking about. Should I put the patched DSDT into the Lion install before I try? I've got it installed but can only get into it once every 4 or so tries then it doesn't last very long if I get in. I wrote up my experiences of getting Leopard up and running like 3 years ago so I'll do that again once Lion is all working. TNKS! ram
  7. Lion installation via USB stick using Chameleon

Thanks for the guide and to the guys helping out on this thread! Sorry for the reply spam, wanted to post new since this is my next issue. Sorry again if someone has asked this, started to read through 35 pages of posts but will take a day to get through it all. I have a fully functioning Lion USB stick with Chameleon etc that all seems to boot fine until it actually starts to load the OS. It randomly hangs, usually when still in text mode. I did manage to get it completely through an install and have installed Lion on a GUID drive, it is currently the only partition on the drive. I get exactly the same issue loading Lion off the HD as with loading the installer off USB, about 1 in 4 tries will get to the UI then will usually hang at some point after that. About half the time it will hang on [ PCI configuraton begin ] My machine is a Dell m1530, I've installed vanilla Leopard on it many times with no grief and was just running Leopard on it to setup the Lion install. Any ideas? Should I have put a DSDT on the USB stick before installing? Can get one from here so no need to generate one http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=190780 BTW in my readings I've seen other people with the Mach_Kernal error, I really think this just has to do with not erasing the USB stick correctly.
  8. Lion installation via USB stick using Chameleon

Thanks for the reply! I have win7, ubuntu and a common fat32 partitions which were all auto mounting. I unmounted them all and eventually it worked. I tried (ie loading the Chameleon install from my desktop) several times and on about the third time it started working and I could choose a destination. I don't know if there's a lag in unmounting drives or what. Now to try again on the install... FYI concerning restoring "Mac OS X Base System" to a USB stick. The first time I did an erase in Disk Util I only clicked on the partition and erased that, not the actual disk itself: In disk util: 7.5GB Imation Nano << Erased this the second time, good -> 8GBUSBSTICK << I just erased this the first time, bad I think that was my main bad because the first time I did the restore I thought it was funny that it didnt rename the drive. I ended up eventually getting errors when trying to install (could boot off the USB stick but couldn't find mach_Kernal) so hopefully this one will work better. I also ticked Erase in the restore dialog. EDIT: Yup this fixed it, I now have a fully functioning bootable USB stick, now for the next problem... Ram
  9. Lion installation via USB stick using Chameleon

This could be a noob thing, but FYI I can only choose where to install Chameleon if I put the installer on the usb drive first then run it. If I try and run it from the desktop it skips the choose target options.
