  1. Problem : Have Inspiron 1300 ( costs about 250USD) running Vista has 1.6Ghz Celeon Processor 80GB HD ABG 802.11 Sigmatel 9200 Dell 350 Wireless 2Gb Ram ( maxed) Have PC Version Plextor PX-TV402U Drivers for PVR incompatible with Vista so Had to run XP, under Windows XP the hardware is very flaky and borderline useless. Getting this all to work on Mac OSX 10.4.11 Tiger is the plan... Solution: Portable USB Hardware DivX Encoder on Dell Laptop running as an OSX 10.4.11 PVR with Picture in Picture time shifting and other options?? how? 1. Install XxX 10.4.11 get it off a torrent site use Google. 2. Get EyeTV trial 3. Get CI/CE working on the onboard GMA 950 by installing GMAfixer.dmg on the XxX DVD 4. Install all updates except the Security Update, too many issues. 5. Run this backup script to backup your files, 6. Run backup script , restore script also provided 7. plug in Plextor ConvertX PX-TV402U if both lights orange and blue are on then all is well. I have found this setup to be easier to setup then a Linux Mythtv setup with the same hardware, your looking at about 1-2 hours to get all this up with little complications. Please make sure to install GMAfixer.dmg to enable CI/CE on the onboard GMA900 card on the Inspiron 1300. Also only the PC windows XP version of the Plextor convertX has been tested the mac version has not been tested. This solution is stackable and scalable, PIP works! see pictures backup.sh #!/bin/sh # -------- echo Backing up kernel ... cp -p /mach_kernel ./ # -------- echo Backing up kernel extensions, bundles, plugins ... if [ ! -d system.library.extensions ] then echo Creating backup system.library.extensions directory ... mkdir system.library.extensions fi cp -Rp /System/Library/Extensions/* system.library.extensions/ # -------- echo Backing up loginwindow.app ... if [ ! -d system.library.coreservices ] then echo Creating backup system.library.coreservices directory ... mkdir system.library.coreservices fi cp -Rp /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app system.library.coreservices/ # -------- echo Backing up profiler reporters ... if [ ! -d system.library.systemprofiler ] then echo Creating backup system.library.systemprofiler directory ... mkdir system.library.systemprofiler fi cp -Rp /System/Library/SystemProfiler/* system.library.systemprofiler/ # -------- echo Backing up configuration bundles ... if [ ! -d system.library.systemconfiguration ] then echo Creating backup system.library.systemconfiguration directory ... mkdir system.library.systemconfiguration fi cp -Rp /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/* system.library.systemconfiguration/ echo All done! restore.sh #!/bin/sh # -------- echo Restoring kernel ... if [ ! -f ./mach_kernel ] then echo Backup of mach_kernel does not exist.
