  1. Problem : Have Inspiron 1300 ( costs about 250USD) running Vista has 1.6Ghz Celeon Processor 80GB HD ABG 802.11 Sigmatel 9200 Dell 350 Wireless 2Gb Ram ( maxed) Have PC Version Plextor PX-TV402U Drivers for PVR incompatible with Vista so Had to run XP, under Windows XP the hardware is very flaky and borderline useless. Getting this all to work on Mac OSX 10.4.11 Tiger is the plan... Solution: Portable USB Hardware DivX Encoder on Dell Laptop running as an OSX 10.4.11 PVR with Picture in Picture time shifting and other options?? how? 1. Install XxX 10.4.11 get it off a torrent site use Google. 2. Get EyeTV trial 3. Get CI/CE working on the onboard GMA 950 by installing GMAfixer.dmg on the XxX DVD 4. Install all updates except the Security Update, too many issues. 5. Run this backup script to backup your files, 6. Run backup script , restore script also provided 7. plug in Plextor ConvertX PX-TV402U if both lights orange and blue are on then all is well. I have found this setup to be easier to setup then a Linux Mythtv setup with the same hardware, your looking at about 1-2 hours to get all this up with little complications. Please make sure to install GMAfixer.dmg to enable CI/CE on the onboard GMA900 card on the Inspiron 1300. Also only the PC windows XP version of the Plextor convertX has been tested the mac version has not been tested. This solution is stackable and scalable, PIP works! see pictures backup.sh #!/bin/sh # -------- echo Backing up kernel ... cp -p /mach_kernel ./ # -------- echo Backing up kernel extensions, bundles, plugins ... if [ ! -d system.library.extensions ] then echo Creating backup system.library.extensions directory ... mkdir system.library.extensions fi cp -Rp /System/Library/Extensions/* system.library.extensions/ # -------- echo Backing up loginwindow.app ... if [ ! -d system.library.coreservices ] then echo Creating backup system.library.coreservices directory ... mkdir system.library.coreservices fi cp -Rp /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app system.library.coreservices/ # -------- echo Backing up profiler reporters ... if [ ! -d system.library.systemprofiler ] then echo Creating backup system.library.systemprofiler directory ... mkdir system.library.systemprofiler fi cp -Rp /System/Library/SystemProfiler/* system.library.systemprofiler/ # -------- echo Backing up configuration bundles ... if [ ! -d system.library.systemconfiguration ] then echo Creating backup system.library.systemconfiguration directory ... mkdir system.library.systemconfiguration fi cp -Rp /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/* system.library.systemconfiguration/ echo All done! restore.sh #!/bin/sh # -------- echo Restoring kernel ... if [ ! -f ./mach_kernel ] then echo Backup of mach_kernel does not exist. Jas 10.4.8 on Dell M2010

Havnt bothered with this for a year but I will update some files here to finish this thread. Included are Drivers for Wireless, ATI video, BIOS, Sound and others Only for M2010 these were all put to gether in Feb 2007 I just never had time to put them all here, the wireless is a hack in progress, internal net card and all else works well. Vista, OSX Dual booting Solution on M2010 =============== To add I am dual booting in Vista, there are two ways to dual boot, forget all these guides they dont tell you what you really need to know which is Point 1) Install Vista then OSX Now what OsX does after install is it will mark itself ( its partition as hidden) and give itself an Activite First boot State after install, this will stop your Vista from booting so read point 2. Point 2) You can Do one of two things you can boot from vista using chain0 loader approach or you can boot from OSX boot loader by hitting F8 when you see the Mac logo and replacing your boot plist with the one I provided. Now here is simply your choices if you want Vista booting first then to go into OSX you need to get a partition program and mark your vista as the primary boot partition then Active ( since it was marked inactive after osx installed). Then use your Vista install DVD to repair your Vista install then add MAC osx to your Vista Boot menu by using bcdedit. By doing the following: Type this: bcdedit /copy {current} /d "Mac OS X" Type this: bcdedit /enum active Type this: bcdedit /set {place Key generated above here} PATH \chain0 Thats all for this method and make sure to copy chain0 to c:\ or your root windows path. If you want OSX boot loader doing everything then do this: 1. Mark your vista as active and OSX as inactive using partition program 2. REPAIR partition boot sector using Vista Install DVD 3. Use parition program to set vista as inactive and but visible in partion program and set your OSX as Hidden and Active in partition program. You should now boot from OSX and get the Apple boot, now press F8 then -s and replace the com.Boot.... with the one I provided, once thats done you will be able to use the OSX boot menu to run Vista and you will not get a corruption state even if you are using a BIOS emulation to run VISTA. Either way it works well. All these fancy Bios MBR loaders and 3rd party apps are BAD news!!!! on the DELL DO NOT use them on this hardware. Good luck, please do not expect responces in PMS I am not online that much anymore. 4. This is in the labs because this is Highly experimental do not even bother unless you have a good working knowledge of VI or Pico and know how to edit in a terminal in system rescue mode to reverse or get your system back again. That being said this guide does not require anything special. What you need: ========= -Included is loginwindow that works on 10.4.9 server -software combo update 10.4.9 intel ( apple site) -some time Lets get started shall we: open a terminal sudo su cd / mkdir old cp /mach_kernel /old cd old cp -R /system/library/extensions/AppleSMBIOS.kext /old cp -R /system/library/extensions/AppleACPIplatform.kext /old cp -R /system/library/extensions/AppleAPIC.kext /old cp -R /system/library/extensions/IOATAFamily.kext /old cp -R /system/library/extensions/system.kext /old run the delta update when it says reboot, dont cp /old/mach_kernel /mach_kernel cp -R /yourdesktoplocation/loginwindow.app /system/library/coreservices/ <-- you need to change your desktop location to the location of the loginwindow file cp -R /old/AppleSMBIOS.kext /system/library/extensions/ cp -R /old/AppleACPIplatform.kext /system/library/extensions/ cp -R /old/AppleAPIC.kext /system/library/extensions/ cp -R /old/IOATAFamily.kext /system/library/extensions/ cp -R /old/system.kext /system/library/extensions/ rm -rf /system/library/extensions.* turn off software upgrade option in system preferences run diskutil and repair permissions now hit reboot on your intel update window Now reboot, your machine will reboot twice fist to setup some stuff then to reboot again to full blown mode, everything should stay the same this is a transparent upgrade and I have spent some time making sure it stays transparent. PS: if you get an error with the downloaded apple update you may use the apple software built in upgrade just make sure not to update anything other then the combo update itself. Tested on a 3.4 HT Intel seems to work. Rosetta PPC to Intel code seems about 30% faster which is probably the only reason you want to bother if your not using much PPC code its not worth it especially if you have custom drivers etc that this may muck up. Goodluck Tirtho loginwindow.sitx
  5. Here is a tested driver for IBM thinkcenter's with the Gagabit NetExtreme BCM5705A2 This is fully patched with MacID! remember to repair permissions using DiskUtil after you have copied it over to /System/Libary/Extensions if all goes well you should see: =================== en0 link active, 100-Mbit, full duplex, symmetric flow control enabled TirthoModifiedIONetworkingFamily.kext.zip
  6. What I will be explaining here is basically what many have tried and very few have done successfully. H264 is Mpeg4 part10 and a generation ahead of Xvid Divx etc, although many may argue Xvid can be better quality. I have found for its versatility H264 encoded videos are the way to go. You get low file size, they are highly scaleable and now I can play then on my ipod aswell as my computer/media center at resolutions that are acceptable for everyday viewing. I started this quest with mythtv generated videos which are produced off my cable box, As you may or may not know there is a project called Mythtv its basically an open source Tivo clone for linux and other open source systems. The software produces video files and these files can be converted using post processing into H264 encoded videos. The videos are not limited to mythtv. Even DVD's that you are backing up to h264 can now be put on your ipod for free. ========= Now whats new, uptill now there was no easy way to put 640x480 H264 videos on your ipod. Its fairly easy to put 320x240 H264 videos but not 640x. So whats the difference, well the new Video ipods have just recently been updated to play the newer higher resolution h264 640x480 Level3 videos at higher bitrates then 1200. These files are comparable to DVD quality in some instances at sizes under a regular Data CD. This is very desirable when it comes to trying to play video on the ipod and reuse the video on other mediums. Without getting into too many technical details because I do not feel like writing an essay here... the main issue is ....uploading these videos to your ipod Itunes WILL NOT ALLOW you to upload these vidos to your ipod. So this started my quest to find a way to put the videos on my ipod 80Gb Video version. I tried many differnt things and found the easiest way to put these videos on your Ipod is by using Fusepod, it can be compiled for darwin your hackintosh or a regular mac once you have it compiled 1. you need to mount your ipod in fuse fusepod [mount_to] If FUSEPod fails to find your ipod you can specify the ipod's mountpoint through the environment variable IPOD_DIR to it's the location. For example, say my ipod is mounted at /media/IPOD and I want to mount the fusepod layer at /home/keegan/ipod You would enter at the console: IPOD_DIR="/media/IPOD" fusepod /home/keegan/ipod To unmount FUSEPod type at the console: ./fusermount -u [mounted_to] you need to modify the "add_files.sh" and colocate it in a directly outside the fusepod location in this example you would need to copy it anywhere outside /home/keegan/ipod Then modify it where it says |mp3|mpa to |mp3|mpa|mp4 This will allow you to add the files to the add_song batch file on the fusepod home directory. Then simply sync the ipod and your file will be copied over. These instructions are fairly vague and I did this because I am sure Ipod engineers are reading this and thinking how can we close this hole. Well I aint telling you anything more..... The UUID atom that Apple Itunes blocks so only their specific variation "H264 settings" can be uploaded to the Ipod Videos can can be defeated by the above "vague" information. That being said, if your desperate enough there is enough information here to pull off what I have done.. so good luck! Hint.. I would start the process on a GNU linux system with fuse prebuilt into the kernel then compile things for Darwin .. Also this Hack only works on HFS+ formated Ipods it does not work on Fat32 formatted Ipods hense why I am telling all the hackintoshies and Macers this info Take care Tirtho
  7. re: serials wHy?? for thoes that rather waste energy then just get a beta serial from vmware.. Dont click on the link below: http://register.vmware.com/content/beta/fu...gistration.html As for vmmon module not loading I have a patch that kinda works but see no point posting as they are releasing the final release in April. Btw the issue is with Hyperthreading from my experience if you can disable that you do not need any patch, my bios doesnt allow that.
  8. you can get around the "illegal" part if you own a mac and are "colocating your OSX"

    Natit loads black screen(ATI)

1400x1050 is ok for me on a mobility x1800, I dont however get any mouse tearing like some of you have got, and I am not using anything other then ATINDRV and x1000 drivers everythin else is deleted. the thing boots up everytime w/ CI/CE dualview but again my max resolution is 1680 x1050 and its a no go. Whats odd is I know the Imacs have 20" screens have have the same native resolution as my laptop but not sure why I cant force it to go into higher resolution mode. as far as mobily installers there isnt anything out there is an x1700/x1800 installer but two forum methods 1 just modifying kexts for ati and the other using atiinject here: forum xmobility method: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=247328 Ati inject method: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...ost&id=7310 I also have my own modified files located: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...39&hl=m2010 your milage may vary... the edid method doesnt seem to really work ... nothing past 1400x1050 as far
  10. With my Dell M2010 working flawlessly on OSX 10.4.8 now, I am focusing on a new project: OSX on ps3.. its actually nothing new.... and not a big deal to get it working and show it off.. like o look see.. Sony has publically annonced full linux and "other" os support. No need to make a OSX on PS3 youtube video .. to diss Steve jobs. ( Btw I do secretly have a peev with apple and maybe this is my way of getting back at them.) SO.... yes you too can show off OSX running on your PS3 to your buddies... here is some steps: ======== 1. install boot loader from Sony ( use google) 2. Install PPC version of Fedora Core 5 w/ Qemu ( use google) 3. run a Flat image of deadmoo.img OSX or osx generic dd'd image with qemu(x86 virtualizer), with a bit of tweaking it will load ( use bit torrent or whatever) this is however not an optimal option or implimentation for me, I want a fast mac osx implimentation.. There are however two issues for me currently .. 1. my only access to a PS3 is a friends unit which I cant hack apart so I have one on order which I will be buying off eaby for a reduced price since I still think they are too expensive ( even if sony is selling them at a loss), and the second being making modifications to the kernel code floating around to make optimizations to run on the PPC cell core.this becomes ...work in progress.... If all else fails I might just end up running osx using the emulation technique but it will be slow as hell till futher optimizations are made to the linux kernel.. Looks like the 2.6.20 kernel is coming out with PS3 support so maybe all hope is not lost. .. Stay tuned

    just want to add for something better then phoenix tools, use the linux edid tools called read-edid its a way better program because it will allow you to dump the did and using ghex2 it will allow you to group the numbers into longwords which you can export directly into natit or whatever your using m2010 longwords: 00ffffff ffffff00 320c003d 00000000 00100103 802b1b78 0afe0998 58528c28 23505400 00000101 01010101 01010101 01010101 01017c2e 90a0601a 1c403020 3600b10f 11000019 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00fe0059 39313136 02323031 5745310a 000000fe 00373f4a 586d8db7 ff02010a 20200094

okay solved mouse tearing and artifacts stuck to 1400x1050 resolution stable used ATI inject, got rid of all entries and added EDID this is a working config.. I am retiring this thread. Pretty happy with my Dell M2010 with a 20.1inch Monster screen added final atiinject already patched btw nothing else works dont even bother trying, natit or titan you will just be spending endless hours watching your display flicker on and off or get white screen or maybe have the back light on and stare at you in the dark . The intell wireless kinda works the driver is based off of what other people hav done with the intel 2200, frankly I dont really care since I mainly use ethernet. okay Found a way to get higher resolution, basically you need to do all the EDID stuff + Add your device ID to Ati radion x 1000. kext then use the <key>Graphics Mode bla bla with your value of 1680x1050x32 this seems work most of the time sometimes it drops down to 1400x1050x32 but regardless its sure is better then 1024x768 there is minor mouse tearing but nothing too bad.

I added In this approach Marcelo Correa instructions for Ethernet and a modified Hexedited AppleBCM5751Ethernet_modified.kext.zip to try out for yourself. ============================ Using 10.4.5 (Broadcom BCM5752) dev id: 1600 Vendor Id:14e4 save the file /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext in the desktop (in the desktop copy) right click and "show contents" find the Contents/PlugIns/AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext right click and "show contents" you going to find a file named AppleBCM5701Ethernet (you are going to use the hexeditor on it) drop it in the desktop!! you could download an hex editor in http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10658 or http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/deve...tools/0xed.html in the hexeditor go to Find "66 81 FA 59 16" and replace all matches with "66 81 FA 00 16" ps. my deviceId is 16 00, took time to understand the changing scroll down to line 37550 and change..... change address 37554, 37555 of "75 71" to "EB 71" save and close the file.... than inside the AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext you going to find the file named "Info.plist" open it and replace the entry <string>pci14E4,1659</string> with <string>pci14E4,1600</string> and save the file. Put back the AppleBCM5701Ethernet inside the AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext (same place). drop the modified IONetworkingFamily.kext in the original location (should need root password) then run the commands sudo -s cd /System/Library/Extensions/ ln -s IONetworkingFamily.kext com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily.kext rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions shutdown -r now then you will reboot..... once booted, you need to setup the network # setup the mac address (see it in windows "ïpconfig /all") sudo ifconfig en0 ether 00:13:72:18:XX:YY # start options sudo ipconfig set en0 DHCP by now you should ping your default gateway.... And that's all folks regards Marcelo Correa here is a Networking family from the latest apple update + modifications for broadcomm 57XX device 16f7 AppleBCM5751Ethernet_modified.kext.zip IONetworkingFamily.kext_modifiedforDeviceID_16f7.zip
