  1. Hi everyone, so, using VirtualBox it works. For headless setup I used phpVirtualBox ( link ). Setup is easy using apt and it is working properly. [update 03/01/13] I played around with XEN 4.1.2 and 4.2.1 without success. So I'll build my Linux VM Setup using VirtualBox. On the VirtualBox forums I found some Guest Additions stuff which can be used: Base guest additions: https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=43330&start=15 Audio driver: https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=53259 On the guest additions thread I posted the reference to the vmware-svga driver, which originated in this forum. Perhaps it is possible to use some of that code on VBox as well. All 3 approaches combined could provide a nearly complete set of guest additions for OS X.
  2. Hi everyone, sorry for bringing this thread back to top, but I am working on this scenario right now. The best way for OS X virtualization on non Apple Hardware would be running VMWare ESXi with DirectPath. I read on the web that running an OS X VM with a GeForce card piped through DirectPath works properly including QE & CI. Although I am going to test OS X on a Debian 7 + VirtualBox headless environment in the next few days. I'll post my progress here. [EDIT] I have to correct myself, it wasn't VMWare ESXi, it was on a Debian + XEN Setup: http://www.bisente.com/blog/2011/03/15/macos-xen-snow-leopard-as-guest-on-a-xen-domu/
  3. Hi, after the WWDC keynote last week I started a petition regarding removed features on the MacBook Pro 15 inch line. The petition currently states the following: Thanks to a german news site the petition reached a wide range of people in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Althouh it was ignored by many popular Mac news sites. Thats the reason for posting it here. So everyone who wants to support the petition, please sign it and post about it across the web. We are currently approaching 150 signitures, but we'll need many more to make a impect on Apple. The petition can be found here: KLICK Kind regards
  4. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

Did you try plugging in another Display? Although the DVI->VGA Adapter is only for generating electronic resistance on the port. As soon as you plug a cable with attached Monitor back into the port it should show up again.
  5. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

Just have a look at post #1 by drumthrasher109. These instructions should do the trick. In regards to patched Motmot I didn't have the time to test it at the weekend. So thx to ArKayDe, because we both have the same card Although I will check which ports work, perhaps we have all of them working now
  6. 4890 and 4870 X2

I would advise you to do the file copy stuff using terminal. Set the permissions correctly and try again. Example for permission changes: chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/Natit.kext chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/Natit.kext Repeat this for all kexts you update. To update the OpenGL.framework I would advise this: mkdir /backup mv /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework /backup mv /where/the/new/framework/is/OpenGL.framework /System/Library/Frameworks chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework

Thanks for the great work netkas I will try it during the weekend.
  8. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

Yes, and it works great for me now. Don't know why I didn't test with OpenGL.framework from 10.5.7 earlyer
  9. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

SUCCESS!!!! I just installed the 10.5.7 OpenGL Framework, removed the VGA Mintor Cable from the VGA port, plugged my Cinema Display into the DVI Port and it works!!! 1680x1050 with full QE&CI [EDIT] Setup Details: Radeon 4800 Package from first Post Latest Natit.kext posted in this thread OpenGL.framework from 10.5.7 HDMI->DVI->VGA Adapter and DVI->Cinema Display
  10. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

So you are running a multi-port Gainward 4870 Golden Sample on DVI? Strange, I tried all possible drivers posted in this thread and all possible port combinations including the Display Port. But nothing worked. Which Natit.kext are you using?
  11. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

Ah, now I understand. This works on some Multi-Port cards, sadly not on mine
  12. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

Interesting, sad I do not have a HDMI capable LCD, so I am out of the loop on this one. Although it does not work with HDMI->DVI Adapter just providing electronic resistance. Thats strange, but seems to be something related to your LCD. I do not have any idea how to make it work for you, sorry.
  13. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

Since you are using VGA try using your LCDs Auto Adjust features. It should fix the display if the resolution is correct.
  14. Resolution

The HD4830 is currently not supported by any Mac OS X drivers. As a result you can only run VESA Mode at 1024x768.
  15. Drivers needed

Try booting OS X with the -v flag and check if there are any error messages and post them here or snap a picture of the boot screen.
