Hi, I'm a software developer with 36 years of experience, coding on Windows, UNIX, embedded devices, and the BlackBerry. I've coded in C, C++, C#, Java, and other languages. BUT I'm brand new to the Mac, XCode, and Cocoa. I have the 3.2.6 version of XCode that came with my MacBook Pro. (I'm not willing to pay to join the developers network yet, so I can get version 4.) I tried walking through the HelloWorld tutorial that came with XCode, and when I tried to build it, I got an error that copystrings failed with exit code 1. I have 3 questions: 1) it would be nice if I could finish that tutorial. Any ideas how to fix this error? 2) are there better tutorials I should get/read to learn xcode and cocoa? 3) [maybe this should be a separate post] I want to write a simple console application that will run with "set user ID on execution", to do a chmod to 664 on /dev/bpf*. I need this for WireShark to work, and I can not get the command line command to work in a shell script at start up. I'm thinking if I had a program do it, that would run correctly when the mac starts up. [if you want me to repost this as a separate thread, I will] Thank you to all, Paul [mac newbie]
