  1. Basic chown script

After creating a script like that, you'd want to make it executable so you can run it. Do the following and you should be able to execute the script afterwards. chmod +x [scriptname].sh where [scriptname] is your script
  2. AppleHDA Solution - Work in progress

Reporting in again, it looks like with patcher 1.12, everything worked using my codec dump for Sigmatel 9221. I now have sound on the internal speakers as well as the output jack.. and it functions properly as well. Connecting something on the output jack turns off the internal speakers. Excellent I will test the mic input soon. Dell XPS M1210 with Sigmatel 9220 (actually a Sigmatel 9221 from linux dump). Thanks again, Taruga!
  3. AppleHDA Solution - Work in progress

Reporting in.. firstly, much thanks to Taruga for all the work! I used Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 as a LiveCD and got the codec#0 dump for my DELL XPS M1210.. bios reported the audio chipset as Sigmatel 9220, but the codec (attached below) dump found Sigmatel STAC 9221 A1. I used the 1.11 Patcher, watched it carefully, and it did everything.. no errors were reported from the patcher. Rebooted the system, but unfortunately, no sound from any of the jacks nor the speakers on the laptop . Going back to the old AppleHDA.kext file that previously worked brought back sound again (but only on the first output jack). Still no sound coming from the speakers on the laptop. I'll give the 1.12 patcher a try later and report back. sigmatel9221.txt
  4. Just reporting in on what I've got here.. installed just last night. Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 2x Crucial Ballistix PC2-8000 @ 800 MHz (SPD timings unknown.. i didn't see where to modify it in BIOS) eVGA 7300GT 256MB (titan from the JaS installer) USB DVDRW + IDE DVDRW Seagate 80GB SATA (SATA0) 4x 400GB WD4000KS Drives (all visible but 1.. might be a filesystem thing.. all use NTFS) Seagate 200GB PATA Using JaS 10.4.8 AMD Intel SSE2 SSE3 with v1p patch. I installed the gigabyte DS3-4 package with all the known fixes for audio, ethernet, etc. Most things worked. I want to point out though, that if you are using the JaS 10.4.8 AMD Intel SSE2 SSE3 distro, DO NOT install the ICH8 compatibility fix from Pion's gigabyte package. I ended up reinstalling OSX again every time I did (for verification). I have some drives not showing up, but I can probably attribute that to problems reading the NTFS data on those drives. So far so good here... ethernet working, audio is untested since it was already late at night, file sharing within my LAN works excellent. Much thanks for all the info in this forum and in this thread in particular
  5. Monitor your temperature under OSX

Program works perfect with my Dell XPS M1210. Two sensors are detected: the cpu and the hard drive (I'm using a Seagate Momentus instead of the original Hitachi that came with it). Thank you!
  6. EBIOS Error During Install DVD Boot

Just noticed one thing I want to add regarding EBIOS. I was trying to install on my Dell XPS M1210, and for some reason installs were taking hours to complete. After a while (and lots of clacking noise from the laptop hard drive), I realized that the hard drive had gone bad. I booted up with the 10.4.8 dvd (JaS 10.4.8 AMD/Intel SSE2/3 v1p patched) and got an EBIOS error. I had a spare laptop drive on hand, popped that in, and bingo.. the dvd loaded again. This time with the new drive, I was able to get through the installation in mere minutes. So if you do get this EBIOS error, check your hard drives as well as it could be a possible sign of HDD failure.
  7. Dell 3945 Replacement

out of curiosity, are you using 10.4.8? I'm looking for a replacement to the 3945 wireless card as well with my XPS M1210. Dell sells the internal pci-e 1390 for $29. That's a pretty good replacement if it works as airport extreme. Did it work directly or required a modification on your part? Thanks!
