1. Thanks for the help. When I get to the chameleon screen, it loads so fast I don't have time to enter -v. Maybe if I create another partition, it will stop and give me a choice what partition to boot? Everything is up to date. However, I do believe AHCI mode is not enabled. In the XPS 410, I need 2 hard drives connected in order to get to the "RAID Configuration Utility" which will give me the option to enable AHCI. When I use #####, I get "waiting for root device." And finally when I was able to get it to load (used early version of snow leopard 10.6.0, it wouldn't recognize my hard drive. So, I used Empire EFI and everything worked. When I boot from the disc (don't need the USB anymore) I get about 7 lines of the same code saying... loaded copy with a different executable UUID is already present. (and something pertaining to IOPCIFAMILY V 2.6. Thanks again.
2. Hey everyone. So I have a dell XPS 410. Booted with Empire EFI and installed 10.6.0. Then I ran ##### to enable boot from hard drive and sound/graphics. Everything worked. Then I did the combo update to 10.6.6. Repair and rebuild. Restarted computer and everything works great. However, I can't seem to boot from hard drive. Here is what happens. When I change the boot options to load from hard drive first, a grey screen comes up with an apple logo. Then a o with a \ through it pops up. Some type of error. So I go back into BIOS and allow the cdrom to boot first and I get the EFI Empire boot screen like always with my hard drive labeled "MAC." I installed to the hard drive, but not sure whats going on. Also, I can't find any place to type -v when booting from the hard drive to find the errors. Any ideas?

Dell XPS 410 Resource Extravaganza

Hi everyone. New to the forums. I am trying to get Mac OS X running of my Dell XPS 410 running Windows 7. The drive is partitioned using Windows 7 and there is nothing on the blank partition. My hard drive is 250gb. (Specs below) So I created and ##### disc and have Snow Leopard 10.6.0 on a bootable USB drive using transmac. I have it boot from the dvd drive and then when i get to the ##### screen, I see Mac OS X from the USB drive. I choose it and I get to a white screen with the apple logo. Then the installation wizard comes up and I pick a language. Then, when the menu bar pops up, I go to the disk utility. However, Disk Utility doesn't show any of my drives. I have a cd-rom, dvd-rw, hard drive and nothing shows up except the USB stick which has Mac OS X. I tried with both RAID On and with ATA/Autodetect selected. Same thing occurs. One individual stated I need to access the RAID Configuration Utility screen at post. This will allow me to turn RAID disk off which I guess enables AHCI. But, I can't get to the screen because I only have one hard drive. (I guess if I add another hard drive, it would enable the option to press Control + I) Also, I tried -f at the ##### screen. Same thing occurs. I am not sure why the drives aren't being seen. Anyone run into this problem? Any ideas on what to do next? I don't want to get another hard drive to try (unless I can get one from a friend or free somewhere) because all I wanted to do is spend money on the retail disc and thats it. If I continue spending money on this thing, I might as well get a mac mini which would be faster. Anyway, I hope you guys can help. 5. Hi I finally got the disc to boot and I am into the installation screen. I went to disk utility, but it doesn't recognize my hard drive, nor my dvd-rw and cd drive. I am using a dell xps 410. Using disc 10.6.0. Intel core 2 duo e6300 @1.86ghz Chipset: P965/G965 Southbridge: 82801HH (ICH8DH) DDR2 1024 Mb Slot 1 and 3 each contain 512 mb of ram (Samsung) Nvidia Geforce 7300LE Hard drive: WDC WD2500JS-75NCB3 250gb thanks Mike Edit: In the DELL XPS 410 (and other dell computers) there isn't a AHCI setting in the BIOS. I learned that RAID ON enables AHCI. When I go to SATA Operation, it gives me 2 options RAID Autodetect/ATA or RAID on. Regardless of the one I choose, still doesn't recognize my hard drive or even my dvd drive. SATA-0 is set to on (thats my hard drive) SATA-1 is set to on (thats my dvd rom drive) SATA-2 is set to on (thats my cd rom drive) SATA-3-5 are off and they dont list anything.
6. Hi, I know there are many posts about this topic, however, my problem might be a bit unique. I have a dell xps 410/9200 and i have 2 options to choose from in BIOS. raid autodetect/ata or raid on. None of these options work with snow leopard 10.6.3. (although i found out it works with 10.6.0) I want to first try enabling AHCI. Since I don't have 2 hard drives, I have no RAID Cofiguration utility screen that pops up when starting the computer. So, I was wondering if there is another way? Maybe using the "Intel Matrix storage utlity?" If so, I am not sure how to use it or if i need to burn it to a disc or what? I downloaded the Matrix storage utility, but not sure what to do with these files. Not sure if this would even work. Thanks for your help Mike
