  1. After the 10.5.5 update installed, I can't get back into OS X at all. The hard drives go into standby after being on the grey apple logo screen for like 3 minutes. I'm using a Q6600 CPU on a Gigabyte P35-DS3L Rev 2 board, 4GB of ram, 250 GB SATA drive, 8800 GT 512MB video card. I followed these steps to the T. What could I be doing wrong?
  2. I'm pretty sure that resolution does not work. I tried it myself as well as 2560 x 1600 (my resolution). I backed it down progressively each time until I got to one that displayed the boot screen with the correct aspect ratio and relatively "good" resolution: 1440x900. When I use 1920 x 1600 or 2560 x 1600, it defaults to some other VESA resolution where it's stretched out more horizontally.
  3. I find it funny you should say that, yet you're willing to live with the extra 30 seconds that having AHCI enabled adds to your boot time. You must not reboot/shutdown very often and use sleep quite a bit. Anyway, that's not why I replied. I just wanted to thank you for writing an awesome guide with zero ambiguity in the directions. I got my system working last night using your guide without any problems! I can't say the same for this other boot-132 guide written by some guy. I followed his directions to the T and couldn't get it to work after 6 times.
  4. Make sure you don't have a USB flash drive plugged in. It took me so long to figure out why it wasn't booting and it was because I had my USB flash drive in. As soon as I took it out, all of the booting problems disappeared.

Do any of you guys have the Realtek ALC850 chipset? I have it and I can get 2-channel to work. I can't test multi-channel since the only output it found was "Line Out." I've been tearing my hair out in getting SPDIF to show up. Do the packages/patches you guys use for ALC88x work for the ALC850? Taruga, you totally rock man. I was wondering if you could help me out here. Also, those dumps you guys talk about doing, how do you actually do one?
