    1201n Keyboard/Mouse problems

So I am looking at the ribbon cable for the track pad and the traces look rough and uneven like they were bunched up. I tried to flatten them but they look like they are a bit chewed up. I think that may be the root problem here. However, neither the left or right click buttons work either so I am worried that it is more serious. The keyboard seems to work intermittently, Sometimes it will work after boot, most times I have to put the computer to sleep first. I think it works in Safe mode without any sleep. It's a pretty old 1201n, revision 2.2 and I have had it for 2-3 years. I have upgraded the ram to 4 gb, installed an OCZ Vertex 2 SSD, and put in an Atheros Wifi card. The power adapter jack was loose at the beginning of the summer and I did reopen it to resolder the jack, and these problems started happening, first with the mouse, then with the keyboard as well. I am hoping that something is not fried or worn out... I really do like this little netbook and it has served me well.

    1201n Keyboard/Mouse problems

Why would updating it to 10.8 fix this problem? Is there a way I can test the hardware first?

    1201n Keyboard/Mouse problems

I've been running 10.6.4 on my 1201n without any problems for over a year and suddenly the trackpad and keyboard started acting up. The mouse would only work sporadically, sometimes it would come back after opening the Trackpad preference pane. I cannot get the trackpad to work at all. The keyboard only works after putting the computer to sleep. I have tried running the Kext utility and I have reinstalled OSX 10.6.4 and I still have the same problem. I don't know if it's a hardware problem with the trackpad being worn out or if there is something I can do to fix it, but I need some help! I followed the install guide up to 10.6.4 since I have had problems with stability on 10.6.8 after upgrading. I am using the 4 GB DSDT.

    Asus 1201N Installation and support

I am having trouble geting my Tascam US-122 to show up and work. I installed the latest drivers from the tascam site, but the device doesnt show up. It lights up and is geting power, and shows up in the System Profiler, but I can't use it. It might have something to do with the fact that the drivers are 32 bit, but I am not booting in 64 bit. It works fine on my Macbook Pro, so I know the interface is not dead. Help! http://tascam.com/product/us-122/downloads/

    Asus 1201N Installation and support

I don't think you can modify system files via the terminal when you boot from the USB stick, I had a lot of trouble changing my boot.plist when I was messing with 64 bit mode. It wouldn't boot and I couldn't get into single-user mode either. I was trying to boot various linux installs at some point, not sure if thats how I fixed it. I'm pretty sure the terminal off the Install DVD only lets you access the file system of the DVD...

If i remember correctly, part of the update to 10.6.8 involved renaming the mach_kernel to something like mach_kernel_old and replacing it as part of the update. The modified kernel tea kernel is what causes the error, since it is obviously different from what the Combo Update wants. I ran into this a few times and the ONLY way around it is to replace your current kernel with the original kernel for the duration of the install. Boot as normal and DO NOT RESTART with the old kernel... no idea what would happen there... General Process: 1. Rename mach_kernel to mach_kernel_new in your root directory (in terminal us 'cd /' to get to root directory or 'cd ..' a few times) 2. Rename mach_kernel_old (from previous version) to mach_kernel (DO NOT RESTART!!!) 3. Perform update to 10.6.7 or 10.6.8 4. Rename mach_kernel to mach_kernel_old 5. Rename mach_kernel_new to mach_kernel 6. Restart AFTER UPDATE IS COMPLETE and New Kernel has replaced the mach_kernel_old backup This did the trick for me. It basically tricks the installer into authenticating the update with the old mach_kernel. (As far as I can tell) You will need to do this using the terminal and the mv command: Commands: cd / mv mach_kernel mach_kernel_new mv mach_kernel_old mach_kernel DO INSTALL NOW mv mach_kernel mach_kernel_old mv mach_kernel_new mach_kernel

Heres what I get on mine w/ 4GB ram and an OCZ SSD: http://db.xbench.com/merge.xhtml?doc2=506900 Compared to macbook air 2,1 http://db.xbench.com/merge.xhtml?doc2=513665 Extra ram helps alo with programs loading and expands the capability of the netbook, however the SSD really makes this netbook into a speed demon. It feels as fast as my macbook pro for most things.

Could this have anything to do with the Chameleon bootloader? IS there anyway to find out what is causing the Kernel Panic?

    Asus 1201N Installation and support

I am having a serious issue with my 1201n randomly freezing. I followed the install guide up through VMHeroes portion and updated to 10.6.7. Everything worked fine in 10.6.4, with no freezes or hangs, however, once I update to 10.6.6 (and 10.6.7) , the computer will freeze randomly. The keyboard and mouse stop responding and I have to reboot the computer. I am not sure the cause of this and I need some help fixing it. I need to have a minimum for 10.6.6 for some applications and I can't stand the 1201n freezing all the time and losing data (read: class notes) Help! Please tell me what information you need from me to help diagnose this problem. I am using the 4 GB DSDT from the VMHeroes files, the 326 BIOS, and an Atheros Wifi card (works fine) Here is a copy of my Extra Folder: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EGTGLRLZ Please Help! I really don't want to do another reinstall to 10.6.4.... again... -George

    Asus 1201N Installation and support

I have tried rebuilding the kext caches, however it didn't really work. I noticed no real pattern to the crashes, except that it seemed more likely to occur if the netbook has been asleep. There were times when it would just crash immediately, and other times it would work for hours before crashing. The SSD crashed recently and I have been unable to fix the bootloader after restoring from a Timemachine backup. I have just re-installed from scratch to see if the problem persists. I am unsure whether to leave the system at 10.6.4 at the end of the mosslack guide or to update to the newest version. Is there any reason to run 10.6.6 or 10.6.7?

    Restore from Time Machine?

Yeah I can't figure out how to do that... it won't boot off the install USB stick, or one with Chameleon. It can't find the kernel, or it just freezes.

    Restore from Time Machine?

So my SSD crashed and I restored from a Time Machine backup, but I can't get Chameleon to boot the disk! Help! How can I fix/restore Chameleon? I am running Chameleon2 RC5 656 (from VMHereos update) Can I fix the bootloader or do I have to reinstall? What is a good backup/restore solution for the future?

    Asus 1201N Installation and support

I am having stability problems with my 1201N. It will randomly freeze and stop responding. The screen stays lit but the keyboard and mouse do not function. Once I hard reboot it, the BIOS will ask me to reload the setup defaults. I have been resetting the BIOS defaults from within the BIOS since this seems to work better that resetting it from the POST screen. I am using the most current BIOS 0326. I followed the install guide through VMHeroes update to 10.6.6 and am using those files. My 1201n has 4 GB of Corsair ram, and an OCZ Vertex II SSD. I am using the 4GB DSDT. Help! I am not sure why it keeps freezing but it is really annoying and has caused me to lose data and time.
