1. I am running a dual drive setup on my DV7. The OSX drive is the primary drive and my Win7 is on the secondary drive. Chameleon is installed on the OSX drive and you select which OS to load at bootup. It works very well and is easier than repartioning(and possibly corrupting)your Windoes drive.
2. My issue is that the volume slider doesn't work at all. It is frustrating. I have 10.6.5 running great using the voodoo sound kext. I went ahead and bought the program called Hear to adjust the volumes of all apps that use the volume so it is a workaround(although an expensive one) for now. I just can't understand why the default taskbar slider doesn't work.
3. Is there a way to control the volume from the volume icon in the taskbar? I can slide it up and down, but it doesn't lower the volume in safari, quicktime, vlc etc. Also, what is the advantage of running a modded dsdt as opposed to running a generic one like myself?
4. Please excuse my ignorance, but how can I install the 10.6.5 legacy kernel to my system without starting over from the very beginning? Every tutorial I have seen for my system asks for the legacy injection when you very first install OSX on your PC. I skipped it as I have had issues with previous installs hanging at boot. Right now I use cpus=1 to run 10.6.5.

Need help on retail osx86 install (using Mammoth's guide)

The way I have it working on my DV7 3085dx is by using ##### to load 10.6.3 and then using the 10.6.5 combo update from Apple. Do not reboot directly after installing the combo update...use Tonymacs ##### pkg to set up your generic kexts. Then reboot and tweak the rest of your system with specific kexts for your hardware. I am running an ##### dsdt (from #####) and booting with cpus=1 until I can figure out the whole custom dsdt thing. It eludes me at this point, but I have 90% of my PC working.

hibernate image too old?

I too have the hibernate image screen upon boot, but it will only kp if I do not type cpus=1 at the start. It loads fine although seeing that screen is aggravating.
7. Is there a way to copy the IOPCIFamily.kext off of the Snow Leopard installation disk to the /System/Library/Extensions folder of my hard drive using the Terminal provided by the install cd? I assume the kext is on the cd. I would like to have a working system again until the release of Mammoth's guide.
8. How's the project coming along? Unfortunately, I deleted an iocph kext and now my rig won't boot so I think I have to start all over. It KPs with an ACPI driver instantly on boot so I thought I would give Mammoth's tut a try.

Almost there...HP DV7 3085dx

I have a pretty decent machine going here and even though it gets better and better I have the following questions: 1. Is there any way for me to use all of my 8 cores in the i7? I have read something about it concerning a legacy kernel? Right now I am booting using the bootflag cpus=1. Anything else gives me a KP. 2. I wish to update to 10.6.6 from my current 10.6.5. How can I make a backup of my current state so that when something fails I can point a program to my backup to reimage the drive? Are there any free programs out there that can do this? I have an empty 500gb external drive i can dedicate for this purpose. 3. When playing music or a movie I cannot control the volume of it using the Sound Icon on the upper right task bar of the desktop. I have to switch Spaces and lower or raise the volume through whatever program is playing it. 4. I have the Intel Ibex Peak-M PM55, Intel Lynnfield mobo. There are 4 models though and I can't figure out which one is mine. I am trying to generate a DSDT at Tonymacx86.com and get stuck verifying which of the 4 I have. 5. I have to get a USB wificard since mine will never be supported. I saw a picture of one on here that was just a little nub that sticks out instead of a gigantic one. Has anyone seen one like this? I can't find the thread it was in. 6. The USB ports on the left side of the laptop allow functionality, but I noticed that they do not provide power to devices. Has anyone else been able to make them supply power? They work fine for a mouse and to sync my iPhone, but they will not power the phone or an external drive.

[GUIDE] HP DV7, Windows 7 and Snow Leopard

Well, thanks to this thread I now have OSX and Win7 dual booting. I had to go the ##### route because at the time I couldn't get it to work using the Combo Update/Qooptz. Working: OSX on the Primary drive, Win7 on the Secondary drive Selective boot screen using Chameleon Sound Video All USB ports Keyboard Trackpad(although it shows none listed) DVD Drive USB internet tethering via my iPhone Not Working(Still getting to try these) 4 CPUs. I only have CPUS=1. This machine is super fast though. Webcam Microphone Wifi(I don't think my card is supported. I am going to get a USB wifi dongle) HP Remote Control System sound from the upper task bar System sound from the touch slider on the keyboard Multicard reader(SD/MS/Pro/MMC/XD) Battery Readings Thank you very much for helping me think outside of the box. All other tutorials are about dual booting on one hard drive. This guide helped me do it from two individual drives.

13" Macbook Backpack Bag Needed, Any Recommendations?

I have a backpack made by Targus. It is completely padded and has tons of cool pockets/slots on the inside. The functionality of it is superb.
