Could you please from now on try to keep this thread on-topic? I try to subscribe to this thread by e-mail hoping something good eventually will come out of it, but instead I am enduring a game of how many bans it will take to make kids grow up. Continue this in PM if you must, I hope nobody is interested in your flawed rhetoric and finger pointing, I for one is not. If you truly are interested in the community then start _contributing_ to it in a respectful manner so that something productive can come out of it. Thanks

I still don't think that wanting pay for work hours is wrong.. If it's a choice between not doing a project and working extra hours to make the ends meet or doing the project and accepting donations/payments it's up to the 'investors' how much it is worth to them I'm looking in to what I have to learn to get savvy on this kexthacking business, propably way over my head, but I want to learn

Why not just donate to Alex instead? It will give him more time to work on projects like these and give to the community. Time is money and money is time =)

@gotmilk70 You are posting a bit off-topic, but I will indulge you, sorry for my part in the derailing. I can imagine your need to switch out your vanilla kernel with a modded legacy_kernel, search for nawcom or netkas and you should find all the advice you need on this topic. On my laptop I had to run legacy kernel until 10.6.8, then my computer magically accepted vanilla So if you can, I would try to get 10.6.8 on it. Also, some systems can never boot without a properly modded DSDT, there are tools you can use to autogenerate one, making it on your own is a bit technical, but not rocket science. Link to 10.6.8 legacy kernel http://blog.nawcom.com/?p=791 You may have more luck using his usb boot procedure. Now that we got that out of the way, keep things on topic

Hey! I hope you hopeful souls do notice the "Dell" part of on top of my post. As we earlier discussed, the custom resolution is easier to obtain on these models and I guess others using the same chips. If you really want me to write up a step-by-step I will, no prob. But I think I might just be wasting your time. I posted so that people with the same model would know that updating from the kexts that are posted in this thread to the ones that come with 10.6.8 makes the experience a little more endurable. I am currently using this as my work computer in a helpdesk job, some very few times i get distortions. But I can live with it as the alternative is windows, and I am so bored and frustrated with that.

Sure, before I updated to the latest kext, the machine would kernel panic if i tried to press fullscreen button in flash apps or in youtube. Extremely annoying. But now with latest kexts, not using the one from zip file here, no panic on fullscreen. Tho Quicktime still panics. So have to watch 720k mkvs in maximized mode.

Dell E4310 (arrandale) update: Clean OSX 10.6.8 install removed only AppleIntelHDGraphicsFB.kext Solved Fullscren KP with youtube/flash. Quicktime still KP in fullscreen, but 720p movies watchable maximized I imagine there are fever distoritions, tho they are still quite evident if I enable hw acceleration in firefox and the like. So now working: - Custom resolution - (partial) CI/QE - Fullscreen youtube (i crashed atleast once a day on that one) Not working: External monitor correct resolution Distortions in a lot of hw accelerated programs, not much noticable for me Anything I can do with AppleIntelHDGraphicsFB.kext to get this fully working? Gonna look into Lion tonight. Preparing an USB now EDIT: Think I have to wait for legacy kernel for Lion, tho 10.6.8 runs with vanilla
  8. Intel HD Graphics / GMA 5700

I'll be sure to experiement on my dell arrandale once I can buy lion retail. Doesn't look to good fro your experiemtns with DP4. Thou I can't really complain much compared to some of you. All I want fixed is blur when using HW accel and KP on fullscreen.
  9. Intel HD Graphics / GMA 5700

tried the Intel SNB (what is that anyway) kexts to no avail. Edit: Anyone got CI/QE in lion dp4 without distortions? Im thinking of trying that..
  10. Intel HD Graphics / GMA 5700

He propably just followed the instruction in this first post? Seems he has the exact same workings and nonworkings as me, except on Dell we get custom res

I wouldnt be so pessimistic, I have faith in XmodD
  12. Intel HD Graphics / GMA 5700

Here is mine, I think =P Dev ID 8086:0046 Working CI, unsure about QE. On a Dell latitude E4300. Custom resolution working, external monitor not working. Custom resolution working. Heavy distortions from time to time and crash on fullscreen video. Edit: Had to .zip it so the forum accept it akataka.zip
  13. Intel HD Graphics / GMA 5700

I have the exact same symptoms as you Freakat, afaik there is no way to fix this. I gues if you need to use the computer for something productive you disable the IntelHD kext, or swat to a windows install :/ I hotswap the sata drive for the time being =P
  14. Intel HD Graphics / GMA 5700

Sure, it is the one linked in post #1 in this thread. 10.6.7 vanilla i presume. http://www.mediafire.com/?yf21d2j1l8le22d

Bah, I´m sorry it was usesless info for most of you, but atleast one person got what he wanted I´m researching a bit more what cause the distortions, and I have just watched a 720p Game of Thrones episode, no distortions at all in Quicktime, using Perian for codecs. This is a feat I could not do without the partial QE/CI and it worked flawlessly. To me it looks like some acceleration is present? I wonder if a movie can play flawlessly, then rest of the issues also should be possible to correct? I really want to purge Windows from this computer Anyone has any suggestion to what the distortions mean? Is it viable to try to adjust the refresh rate? Any similar issues that might give clues on how to correct this? Edit: Also is there a boot flag or similar to temporary disable QE/CI? E.g for a presentation using keynote, I should want the distortion to calm down =P Edit2: Distortion workaround for firefox, go to preferences - advanced - unhook use hardware acceleration
