1. I've officially hit a brick wall but I won't give up. Persistence seems to be 99% of building a hackintosh using a laptop :/ Anyone else with thoughts on what I'm doing wrong on the x1400? Anyone have experience with this or were you one of the few who have gotten QE/CI working. I found a number of threads on other osx86 sites where people reported the x1400 fulling working in 10.6.8 and even 10.7.x. Unfortunately these seem to be dead ends for me as I can't determine exactly how they did it with out complete kext listing, boot plist settings, smbios model, etc. - Most mentions of the x1400 card working in 10.6.8 and later mention swapping in working 10.6.3 kexts mixed with updated RadeonHD and ATIx1000 kexts but no luck with this route either. - Changing smbios mac model has produced very odd results overall, My 9400 should most closely match a Macbook Pro 1,1 through 2,2 but all of these give KP, extreme slowdowns and other erratic problems. MBP 5,1 seems too work and MBP 6,1 (I'm currently using this) makes the system slightly (but noticeably) more responsive. I'm open to any advice or things I may not have tried, thanks in advance guys...
2. After about 2 weeks of constant adjusting, I now have my old Dell inspiron 9400 fully working with on 10.6.8 with the only exception being graphics acceleration. I've been scouring the web for a over a week now working on this but now luck, so now I'm hoping to get some help from an expert. I've currently got the x1400 recognized correctly and running at full resolution (1440x900). I'm using a custom RadeonHD kext with EDID values (in base64) for my laptop's monitor and the customized ATIx1000 kext with correct device ID (0x7145). I also had ATIsupport kext installed, although I don't fully understand this kext and disabling it didn't seem to change anything for better or worse (I'm assuming it had something to do with enabling acceleration pre-graphics update?) Is there anyone out there who can help with this? I'd love to get this laptop working and create an exact guide for install on the 9400 - hopefully with lion assuming I can get the graphics working on snow... Attached below are the x1400 kexts I'm using currently along with my apple boot plist and my chameleon boot plist... Can anyone give me a hand with this old radeon? Edit: I went back and also tried exactly what was mentioned above in the.delro's post but still dont seem to be having any luck with QE/CI... x1400 kexts.zip
3. The title pretty much says it all, I'm getting KP on boot and can't get past the OSX ("apple") white loading screen. Removed my old drive and used Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) to clone to a newer (5 mo. old) Corsair GT SSD. Old drive booted w/o problems or KP - all kexts and needed files working as needed. I didn't install the bootloader to this SSD yet - I had planned to do that after initially booting using ######/######. I used ###### to successfully load the bootloader where the new drive with my old OSX install was recognized. I attempted to boot this using several flags but all have so far resulted in KP. Didn't have a chance to go through verbose mode yet however (only had a few minutes to test late last night). Is there something obvious which I might be overlooking?? I read something about 4K format issue in one post but I don't really understand what that issue is or what it might cause. Thanks all in advance, I'll be checking in later today and updating this evening as I get a chance to work on this.

Inspiron 9400 10.6.8 troubleshoot

***Update - found an old link ID'ing one of my problems!! Using ACPI files from 10.6.7, I now have 10.6.8 running correctly with both cores of my core duo. Turns out that I had two completely separate issues. Now that ACPI problems are resolved I am still having boot issues though... All of this seems to relate to my inspiron 9400's ATI mobility x1400 card. Deleting RadeonHD kext and ATIRadeonx1000 kext allows me to boot without safe mode but installing these seems to always result in the grey/crash screen below (photo 3 on first post). Also attached below is a zip with the two Radeon kexts I'm trying to use, here's the full (but unformatted) info from those two kexts.... Any thoughts on what is causing the issue in the attached image?? (taken from moment before verbose mode crashes to grey/white screen) RadeonHD.kext <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" " http://www.apple.com...yList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>CFBundleDevelopmentRegion</key> <string>English</string> <key>CFBundleExecutable</key> <string>RadeonHD</string> <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key> <string>com.dong.driver.RadeonHD</string> <key>CFBundleInfoDictionaryVersion</key> <string>6.0</string> <key>CFBundleName</key> <string>RadeonHD</string> <key>CFBundlePackageType</key> <string>KEXT</string> <key>CFBundleShortVersionString</key> <string>1.0</string> <key>CFBundleSignature</key> <string>????</string> <key>CFBundleVersion</key> <string>1</string> <key>IOKitPersonalities</key> <dict> <key>RadeonDump</key> <dict> <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key> <string>com.dong.driver.RadeonHD</string> <key>IOClass</key> <string>RadeonDump</string> <key>IOMatchCategory</key> <string>RadeonDump</string> <key>IOProbeScore</key> <integer>0</integer> <key>IOProviderClass</key> <string>RadeonHD</string> <key>IOUserClientClass</key> <string>RadeonHDUserClient</string> </dict> <key>RadeonHD</key> <dict> <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key> <string>com.dong.driver.RadeonHD</string> <key>IOClass</key> <string>RadeonHD</string> <key>IOMatchCategory</key> <string>IOFramebuffer</string> <key>IONameMatch</key> <string>display</string> <key>IOProbeScore</key> <integer>30000</integer> <key>IOProviderClass</key> <string>IOPCIDevice</string> <key>UserOptions</key> <dict> <key>BackLightLevel</key> <integer>255</integer> <key>MsgBufferSize</key> <integer>65535</integer> <key>debugMode</key> <false/> <key>enableGammaTable</key> <false/> <key>enableHWCursor</key> <true/> <key>lowPowerMode</key> <false/> <key>verboseLevel</key> <integer>1</integer> </dict> </dict> </dict> <key>OSBundleLibraries</key> <dict> <key>com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily</key> <string>1.1</string> <key>com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport</key> <string>1.1</string> <key>com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily</key> <string>1.1</string> <key>com.apple.kpi.bsd</key> <string>8.0</string> <key>com.apple.kpi.iokit</key> <string>8.0</string> <key>com.apple.kpi.libkern</key> <string>8.0</string> <key>com.apple.kpi.mach</key> <string>8.0</string> </dict> </dict> </plist> ATIRadeonx1000.kext <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" " http://www.apple.com...yList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>CFBundleDevelopmentRegion</key> <string>English</string> <key>CFBundleExecutable</key> <string>ATIRadeonX1000</string> <key>CFBundleGetInfoString</key> <string>ATIRadeonX1000 1.6.10.32 (7770)</string> <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key> <string>com.apple.ATIRadeonX1000</string> <key>CFBundleInfoDictionaryVersion</key> <string>6.0</string> <key>CFBundleName</key> <string>ATI RadeonX1000 Kernel Extension</string> <key>CFBundlePackageType</key> <string>KEXT</string> <key>CFBundleShortVersionString</key> <string>1.6.10</string> <key>CFBundleSignature</key> <string>????</string> <key>CFBundleVersion</key> <string>6.1.0</string> <key>IOKitPersonalities</key> <dict> <key>ATIRadeonX1000</key> <dict> <key>ATIEnableWideBlitSupport</key> <true/> <key>ATIUseTearingWideBlit</key> <false/> <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key> <string>com.apple.ATIRadeonX1000</string> <key>GpuDebugPolicy</key> <integer>0</integer> <key>IOCFPlugInTypes</key> <dict> <key>ACCF0000-0000-0000-0000-000a2789904e</key> <string>ATIRadeonX1000GA.plugin</string> </dict> <key>IOClass</key> <string>ATIRadeonX1000</string> <key>IODVDBundleName</key> <string>ATIRadeonX1000VADriver</string> <key>IOMatchCategory</key> <string>IOAccelerator</string> <key>IOPCIMatch</key> <string>0x71451002</string> <key>IOProviderClass</key> <string>IOPCIDevice</string> <key>IOSourceVersion</key> <string>1.6.10.32</string> <key>sensor-properties</key> <array> <dict> <key>device_type</key> <data> Z3B1LXNlbnNvcg== </data> <key>location</key> <string>GPU</string> <key>name</key> <string>gpu-sensor</string> <key>polling-period</key> <data> AAAAAQAAAAA= </data> <key>reg</key> <data> AAAAAg== </data> <key>sample-period</key> <data> AAAAAACYmAA= </data> <key>sensor-id</key> <data> AAAABg== </data> <key>version</key> <data> AAAAAg== </data> <key>zone</key> <data> AAAAAg== </data> </dict> </array> </dict> </dict> <key>NSHumanReadableCopyright</key> <string>Copyright © 2004-2009 Apple Inc. 5. Hello all, longtime lurker and first of all - thanks for all the amazing info the community here has supplied me with! This forum has helped me put together two great builds in the past (x58 on gigabyte boards - mostly foolproof, but still great info/learning to be found on these boards...) So here's the current project - I have an old Dell Inspiron 9400. Its got a 1.83ghz core duo (not core2duo - so 32bit only I believe), 2gb ddr2, Sigmatel 9200HD audio, Broadcom 440 nic, 30gb ssd (placeholder for troubleshooting this install), and a Radeon x1400 Mobility. LINK to full specs I had decent luck running everything on this system at 10.6.3 - audio working, wireless working, basic video functionality (x1400 unrecognized however). I was also running with only one core throughout this part of the install (OSX then identified as a core solo). I've since added in TSCsync kext and activating both cores works, although I can only boot currently with -x/safemode (see below) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ After things were going smoothly I installed the 440 broadcom kext, voodoo HDA 2.2, and my best guesses for the x1400 Radeon kexts - I used RadeonHD.kext (from this thread - mine was the 5/26/2010 - before extension modes/nubs added in), and ATIx1000 kext with <key>IOPCIMatch</key> <string>0x71451002</string> added in (supposedly the x1400 ID...) ....From this point on out things have gotten progressively worse, I keep saving backups of kexts I'm editing and trying different combinations of bios settings, kext files, and workarounds. I'm in over my head and need some help from some pros in order to sort this out and continue learning. I have a feeling I'm doing something really idiotic in terms of my boot problems. As of now I cannot boot normally, only with safe mode. Also, booting with verbose/-v results in the images below. "Photo-1" shows a snapshot of verbose and "Photo-2" (apologies, slightly blurry) is fractions of a second prior to the next screen appearing "Photo-3". This chain of events is consistent and always occurs when booting with only the "-v" flag. I have also reproduced this with and without my boot plist i386 setting and PCIRootUID=1 (not sure if I even need these??). As you can see in the pic, "Photo-3" is a scrambled grey bar on a white page. This occurs every time following the verbose boot. Attempting to boot with no flags results in a hang on the apple loading screen (wheel stops spinning and boot hangs/system unresponsive). Only means of successful boot at this point is using safe mode. x58 build help...

Hello all, I was recently in the market for a mac, then decided better of it, figuring it would much easier to use components I have to just do a dual boot setup. Basically I just need some advice and pointed in the right direction to get started here. What my rig is running right now - i7 920, gigabyte X58-UD5 (original non-sata 6 version), 6gb (2gbx3) ddr3, 2 HDDs I'm currently running a Radeon 5850 and a geforce 250gts together under win7, I also have an unused Radeon 3870 and a Radeon 4870 (currently in use in another system) Here's my plan - Using #####, this guide, and another HDD I've just purchased, I'm going to install osx 10.6 from the retail dvd I've just purchased. What I need help with - I'd like to know if using this ##### route is a good/bad idea, I'm hoping to use this method as it seems pretty straightforward. This is the first time attempting a real mac install and my first time getting under the hood of OSX. I've run a OSX vm in the past on my pc so I have that experience and I also have some limited knowledge/experience with several linux distros. Also what problems might I run into during this install based on my hardware? I know the UD5 mobo will work with OSX, but I'm a little worried about my video setup. Will I still be able to keep my 5850 running as the main display and just leave the 250gts in w/out a driver/kext or will I have to remove one of these cards from my system completely? I also think I read somewhere that the Radeon 58xx's can't work with 64bit (yet) in OSX, does this mean the Adobe CS5 64bit applications wouldn't run assuming I'm using the 5850? Thanks in advance!
