  1. [Help] Darwin on Eee PC 901

Hi everyone. I can't manage to boot or install a copy of Darwin on my Asus Eee PC 901. I want Darwin, not OS X, because it's more lightweight and I only need it to serve as an AFP file server. I turned to Darwin because I couldn't find a single NAS OS or any *nix distro that supported HFS, which is my disk's file format. This PC doesn't have a working internal hard drive, so I'm gonna need to install it onto a USB drive. I managed to boot PureDarwin (restored in my Mac to an USB drive) using a SD card with GRUB installed (Chameleon didn't even detect the Darwin partition). However, it hangs on "Using 5242 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers". I also tried "darwinx86-801.iso" from Apple, but when I boot that using GRUB, it just shows a blinking underscore for a few seconds, and then restarts. What can I do to use Darwin on this machine? It must be possible, considering it even runs full-blown Snow Leopard. (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/186596-guide-retail-snow-leopard-install-on-eeepc-901/) Thanks.
  2. [Help] Cheap (Sub $300) Hackintosh

Thanks! Will probably buy those soon, if no lower price builds come. Is that case only available in the states? I live in Portugal, getting the other stuff should be easy, but I'm not feeling confident about the case, because Newegg doesn't ship to Europe. (And Amazon doesn't ship that case to Europe too...) Oh, and is it possible to paint the case? I think silver would look great, but I'm afraid I would break something by painting it. I found a an ATX that I think it's prettier, and it sells in Portugal. http://www.minfo.pt/catalogo/detalhes_produto.php?id=262632 Is it still compatible with the other things? Again, thank you for your reply.
  3. Hi. A lot of time has passed since I last posted... I bought an early 2011 13'' MacBook Pro and I absolutely love it! And I bought an iPhone 4, too. But now I want a new toy! I'd like a really really really cheap Hackintosh to mess with. The main use would be torrenting, remuxing and reencoding videos (MKVTools, Subler, Handbrake). I want it to be small and quiet. I want a machine that I can leave to convert a video while I sleep, for example. I don't want lights, noise, anything. I want it to pretend that it's turned off. I want it to blend in with my router... I have a furniture that has my TV on it, and my router next to it. I was thinking Mac Mini form factor, so it can sit next to my TV (opposite place of the router). I don't want to buy a Mac Mini because I already have a Mac, I just want a toy. Maybe it's too much trouble, or perhaps not even possible, but can I use a Mac Mini case to build such machine? If not, what case do I use? I want it to perfectly support Mountain Lion when it is released (I'll buy it for my Mac the day it gets out) and finally, I want it to be like $300 dollars, or even less. Is this possible, or am I asking WAAAAAY to much here? If it is possible, can you provide me with build examples please? P.S. Here's my furniture: I'll connect the Hackintosh to my TV via HDMI, so I can simply turn on the TV when I need it. Thank you in advance.
  4. Black screen after 10.6.4 update

Ok, going to download iATKOS S3, and try to install it... Then update to 10.6.4. Thanks. I'll leave feedback when I finish it.
  5. Black screen after 10.6.4 update

I want 10.6.4 because of XCode, otherwise I would have stayed at 10.6.
  6. Black screen after 10.6.4 update

In that topic, it says some things about Snow Leopard, but they are not the problem that I have (at least, the description they say is not mine), and using the search engine, I only find Leopard stuff, and my Leopard was totally OK. Also, I googled a lot, a nothing relevant comes up except my own topic... Am I a unique case? O_o And thanks for your help! Maybe I'm not searching correctly, or ignoring something useful, I don't know... Stupid update. What can I do to boot my "Mac" again?
  7. Black screen after 10.6.4 update

What version does it install? I want 10.6.4... And the problem has to do with the graphics, but don't know how to solve it.
  8. Black screen after 10.6.4 update

Yes, I've got it right, but sometimes I mistake when writing i386, type 1 instead of i. Thought you were portuguese. xD
  9. Already had Graphicsenabler on com.apple.Boot.plist, but I googled Graphicsfix and found nothing. Btw, created a seperate topic to this: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;#entry1541765 Thanks.
  10. Black screen after 10.6.4 update

Already had the arch=1386 flag in my com.apple.Boot.plist, because my PC doesn't support 64-bit. Do you speak portuguese? I noticed your name. Falas português? Reparei no teu nome.
  11. Hi. Recently I installed Mac OS X Snow Leopard retail with the help of MyHack Installer on my PC. I already had 10.5.6 Leopard (iDeneb 1.6 lite version) on my external hard drive (and it is still there, in case I need it), but I decided to install Snow Leopard to my internal hard drive... So, there multiple things that don't work, but that's not the question for now... I wanted to install XCode, but it asked me for 10.6.4 update. So, I went do Software Update, downloaded 10.6.4 Combo Update, and installed. All went fine. After reboot, my system was not booting. It didn't appear the grey screen with the apple logo, just a black screen... And then it restarted. So, booted in verbose mode to see what happened. It said something like this: VGA compatible controller : Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) (controller not available) But this is strange, since the Graphics always worked well, on Leopard and Snow Leopard... It's just an issue after the update, and I don't know why. That's why I'm here asking for help... I really would like to boot into my dear Snow Kitty again, to test some more kexts, and such. My specs: Compaq website specs Hardinfo detailed hardware report I also have a more "general" topic here, with questions about my install: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=230082 Can you help me, please? Thank you, JPCanaverde
  12. Got ethernet working adding the EthernetBuiltIn key in apple.com.Boot.plist. But now, I wanted to install XCode... But it required 10.6.4, and I was at 10.6. Updated. After update, I see a black screen for a moment, and then it restarts... I booted in verbose mode and it said that VGA compatible controller : Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) didn't have the drivers, or something. I had to use the Pause key to read it, because verbose was really fast. Can you help me with this, please?
  13. LOL. I need to choose between fast Internet or fast Graphics and right screen resolution. I fixed the screen resolution and the graphics issue by changing the resolution in com.apple.boot.plist. But now the Internet is slow again. --' And I can't install Chameleon to the MBR... Grub no longer shows up, now only the Windows bootloader shows. I don't know how can I install Chameleon to the MBR... I did it like the guide sayed... Well, I'll fire up EasyBDC in Windows and see if I can do something.
  14. OSx86 is really weird, and unexpected. First, it booted slowly. Then, Grub did something and it now boots fast. I couldn't boot it with Chameleon. Now I can. And, I have fast internet! But, now my graphics don't work very well, LOL. System Profiler only recognizes 64Mb of graphics memory, the screen is a little weird (it fits perfectly my screen, but it looks like it is too zoomed), and the graphics-powered animations are a bit slow. Booting with Chameleon fixed the Internet speed problem somehow, but now I have the graphics problem... --' My graphics card: Video Graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 Video Memory: Up to 358 MB How it shows in the System Profiler: Display: Type: GPU Bus: Built-In VRAM (Total): 64 MB of Shared System Memory Vendor: Intel (0x8086) Device ID: 0x2a02 Revision ID: 0x0003 Kernel Extension Info: No Kext Loaded Displays: Display: Resolution: 1024 x 768 Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888) Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes One problem fixed, another shows up... Why does Apple not allow to install OS X on PCs? It's promoting them! And we can install Windows on a Mac, why not install Mac on a PC? Can you help me, please? Thanks.
  15. Windows boots just fine with grub, but doesn't with MyHack (but it boots with Chameleon). I'll try to boot OS X with Chameleon in verbose mode and try to see why it gives me kernel panic. Then I'll try to fix it... When I can boot Ubuntu, OS X and Windows with Chameleon, I'll install Chameleon to the MBR. How do I make Windows partition active? And if I repair the Windows bootloader, it will replace Grub, and I don't want to.
